The Titans are close to raiding the Denver staff, and Bates' son could be getting a promotion.

Footnote.
Cutler, wide receiver Brandon Marshall and tight end Tony Scheffler are going to work out with a personal trainer in Atlanta next week. Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson is expected to train with them. Staff writer Mike Klis contributed to this report. Bill Williamson: 303-954-1262 or bwilliamson@denverpost.com

This foot note seem to get lost in the Dinger gone thread. But the trio is working out and Calvin Johnson is there too. If Walker wants to figure out were he fits with the team, he might want to get his ass down there and work out with them.

This his career. He is a professional and with the short time to make money. If he is serious about being "the man" then this is the kinda of stuff that he going to have to do, even when he doesn't want to.

On a side note, I find it very encouraging that these three have formed a little nucleus that is just going to get better during the offseason. Hopefully other young guys on the team will look up to them and buy into what they are creating. I think we may be seeing some team identity sprouting up before our very eyes.

Correct he needs to "prove his worth" by staying his ass on the field and out of the media.

If I was in the NFL I wouldnt do that lol. I would go hang in sum clubs. Leave Javon he doesnt have to if he doesnt want to. Jay, Brandon, and Sheff can go do their think.

Im kinda surprised Brandon is goin though, Brandon seems more like a have fun kind of guy. Jay ans Sheff seem more like the "lets go lift weights" type guys.

Give me a ****ing break. Its the offseason. Dude has a life outside the job. He might not want to hang out with those dorks all summer.

He doesn't have to do anything outside of what's stipulated in his contract. But every great player in the history of team sports has gotten great by doing more than they have to do. That's part of what makes them great.

What's more, it's not like the old days, where these guys don't make enough money just playing football to support themselves year round. Let's say that working harder than you have to during your career buys you an extra couple years in the league, at the end of your career. Well, even at the veteran minimum, those two years will provide more income than these guys could probably make in a decade or two, working a real job.

Who wants to be great? Obviously Scheff, Cut and BMarsh... as well as Calvin Johnson.

I hate this complaining attitude, they won't throw me the ball, ect. Make them throw you the ball Javon. Prove you belong and are worth the money. The guy is a 6 year vet now and guys that have been in the league half as long are taking more of a veteran leadership role than he is.

Jay-C, B-Marsh and Scheff are a cliq. But a Cliq that wants to be the best they can and make the Broncos the best they can.

Javon wants the limelight solely on him.

Javon isn't about the team. Javon wants the team to be about Javon.

Jay and the boys have had this planned for well over a month. I'm sure Javon was asked to join them.

And it doesnt show anything about his commitment. The guy is a very good wr. All this Javon hate for a few statements is just silly. When I read this article, my first thought was how l glad I was to see the best skill players on offense working out together. It reminded me of the way Peyton Manning would join with Marvin Harrison for off season workouts. That's seems to have worked out pretty well for the Colts.

My second thought was that I was impressed to see Calvin Johnson working to improve. A guy with his skills might rest of his laurels, but Calvin recognized his rookie season was marked by inconsistency and he's doing everything he can to take it to the next level.

Javon Walker never crossed my mind until people mentioned him in this thread.

I found it more curious that Johnson wasn't getting together with his own teammates, but spending several weeks with Kitna the Prophet and Roy Williams the President of the Roy Williams Fan Club, didn't sound like much fun, either.

I'm a firm believer in veterans taking time off to heal and get their mind off the game for a little while....if only for a month. These guys are balls to the wall for the better part of 9 months out of the season....more if they advance in the playoffs.

I see nothing wrong with guys taking time off in late January/early February. It's really their only time where they can truly escape and take time for themselves. Why earn all that money if you can't enjoy it when you are still relatively young and can still walk?

I understand there is back-story to the Walker situation and people love to pile on him, but the facts are:

- he is coming off a major injury and may need this time to continue healing and rehabbing for next season
- if he does return to the Broncos next season, he already has great on field chemistry with Cutler (go check out his numbers from the first few games this season when he was healthy)
- at this point in his career no "camps" he goes to in January or February with a bunch of rookies and second year players are going to improve his game anyway IMO

I am by no means advocating that guys in his position should not do things to improve their game in the off-season. I'm just saying that these guys play a violent sport and they should at least get a month or two off from "on field" activities" before they start killing themselves again.

Seriously, this is a non-issue. NFL players aren't all best friends hanging out and working out together in the offseason, no matter how much you want it to be that way. Walker might be a bad teammate for other reasons, but not working out in ATL with Cutler and Scheffler is not one of them.

I agree 100 percent. You guys are being such bitchy anuses about this. Shannon Sharpe would never practice with the team, even during the off season workouts in Denver. Didn't seem to effect his play on the field. Javon Walker is a proven NFL talent who, when healthy, has been nothing but productive. He's a grown man with a life, why does he need to go to Atlanta for a few weeks, in fact, should the entire team join those three in Atlanta? Of course not. You guys are acting as if he's ditching training camp. Relax

You know what the big problem is:

Some people have this crazy mythology in their heads that football players have this vastly different interaction. Where they are some how all bound in some esoteric brotherhood.

In reality, it's not. It's no different in many ways to how lots of other people get along at work. You have the same types of people: Lazy, whiny, hard workers, etc.

To some how have this fog induced idea that NFL players are neo-spartans is very silly. To think that some of these only play for pay isn't some scarlet letter offense, when infact most of us are just working for a check all the same.

My only problem with your post here BB is that if he really needed the month or two off than why bother putting him back on the field late in the season to begin with? To me, if something happens to him it would just set him back more. So, im not buying that his knee isnt better than it is. And the way he was talking to the media he made it sound like he was 100% as he should be the main target of Cutler.
