Curtis Lofton Opts for NFL
Junior linebacker to enter draft
NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma linebacker Curtis Lofton has decided to enter his name in the National Football League Draft. He becomes the second Sooner junior this year to do so. Junior receiver Malcolm Kelly made a similar announcement last Thursday.
"Curtis made a lot of big plays during his time here," said OU head coach Bob Stoops. "We wish him all the best in the NFL."
Lofton said he reached the decision Sunday.
"I'll definitely miss my coaches and teammates," he said. "I came in with my class three years ago and those guys are like brothers to me. And I'll miss playing in front of those 85,000 fans."
Lofton said the atmosphere at Oklahoma readied him for the next step.
"It starts with great coaches and a system that from day one develops you as a person and player," he said. "Once you get the opportunity to play, you're ready, It's one of the best coaching staffs in the nation."
Lofton, a consensus All-American, was OU's leading tackler in 2007 when he notched 157 stops, the sixth-best total in school history.
The Kingfisher, Okla., product also estalished a school record with nine double-digit tackle games. He logged a career-high 18 tackles in the first meeting with Missouri.
Some 35 Oklahoma players have been drafted since Bob Stoops took over as head coach. OU has produced a first-round selection in each of the last six years.

6' 0" 238# (very similar to Al Wilson when he came out). Runs a 4.65 40 (not very similar to Al when he came out :D)

OSKIE, Same thing I was thinking. Lofton played at around 250 this year and didn't loose speed.
Funny you have Schmitt in your sig line, most will remember his big TD run in the Fiesta Bowl, but late in the game, he came through on the same play and Lofton blew him up! SPLAT! That's when Schmitt got up and did his best Rick Flair. Both guys would be welcome additions on a team that needs a couple of throwbacks.

48-28. The entire Mountaineer team blew up OU that night.

Who's starting ****? I just made a simple point regarding the game.

Yes it did. Sooner said that Lofton blew up Schmidt and i just made the reply that the Mountaineers blew up the Sooners which meant that Lofton's play was of little consequence to the BIG PICTURE in that game. And why do you care anyway? Ha!

He was talking about a specific play that involved two prospects. You were not. So no, it had absolutely no relevance. You were just trying to start ****.

It's okay. I think everyone knows how I feel about OU's overall performace that night...and they were busted all over the place. However, Lofton's 17 tackles were the some of the few bright spots for a team that didn't care to be there.
Lofton is about the 3rd best LB on the list of draftees now that laurinitis has opted to stay. I think he would be an awesome guy to have in the middle for our D.

I know that and you have a great squad there and your school is top notch as always. I was a bit surprised how it all went down considering how well the defense was playing overall. It was still a great year for OU despite all of that.

Anyway, this is for those who have watched Lofton play: where is a reasonable spot to take him if we do?

Late first, Early second...Connor and Rivers will be gone in the first. It would be nice to be able to draft OL with # 12 and then trade up to the early 2nd to grab Lofton.

I'd say the 42nd overall pick is early 2nd. Definitely early enough to get a good linebacker.

What video game? Go back to your sheep. And youre the last person who should be calling anyone a dumbass.

It's still early to "slot" players - but I'll disagree on the optimism on Lofton. In this really deep LB class, I think he is likely a 3rd rounder at this point.
Off topic, but yesterday Gosselin was apparently on a radio show and said that there could be as many as 8 RBs get a first round grade this year. That's crazy. There will be 3rd/4th round RBs selected that will be starters in a year or two.

Lofton got a grade of 2. He is a beast and will be the third LB taken.

From what I've seen he's a very talented LB. I was very impressed when I watched him in the Missouri game. With that being said, in this class he's going to need to time well at the combine to be anything other than a early 3rd round pick in this draft. Not saying he's not a quality athlete, but this draft has alot of talent in it.

Understand your point. With a draft grade of 2, I would highly doubt to dee him slip passed the second round.
I watched the first half of the OU-WVU game last night and he seems pretty solid. And WVU isnt an easy team to go against if youre not mobile and a solid tackler. He missed a tackle here and there but he also made a lot of tackles that others would whiff on. And early in the game he did a good job of making the tackle and minimizing their yardage gained. I was impressed.

I think he will be taken in the late 1st. He is a solid LB. Probably the best MLB at this point now.
