View Full Version : Javon's value maximized as a deal sweetener?
I was thinking about the prospects of trading him straight up vs. along with pick(s). And it occurs to me more and more that the maximum trade value to be had with Walker is by trading him in combination with something else as opposed to by himself. If, say, we were to trade down with the #12 and package him with it, its my theory that there will be a greater tendency for them to look at his upside more and the reason is that they would view him more as a bonus to go along with the 12...so the 12 would obscure his downside somewhat. If we trade him alone, people become more scrutinous of his flaws. So its better to trade him (if we do) as a deal sweetener. Thoughts?

I agree with you on this one lex. I think the same goes for Foxworth. With Walker, you could put together a nice package with #12, but it'd have to be a perfect scenario for a team to both want to trade up and take on Walker. For Foxworth, we may able to pick up NO's 3rd for him and, say, Washington's 4th, which is better value than trading him straight up, where we'd be lucky to get a 4th.

Ship him to Minnesota with our #12 for their first, 3rd, and 4th or something.

Woah I just thought of something. Who's Shanny's best friend? Jeff Fisher. What does Jeff Fisher need more than anything? A receiver. What does Jeff Fisher have an abundance of? D linemen. Hmmmmm. No linemen (under contract) worth a straight across trade, but something interesting to think about.

Minny's slot (17th i think?) would be an ideal spot to draft one Mr. Sam Baker :D

I would say BOTH guys would be best traded in deals like this, only i think FOXY goes for a player.
I could see MIN or even CHI if the lose Berrian to FA looking long and hard at Javon. Both have HUGE needs at QB and taking javon off our hands at #12 to as LEX says, "sweeten" the deal could be the deal maker to getting that coveted last QB on the boards.
As for Foxy, IMHO it would be better to get a starter if possible.
CBs are a tough position to fill, and i could see a team like NO in desperate need for some solidarity at the position not only work a deal for Foxy, but also still draft 1 CB in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th as well.
Would'nt suprise me at all.
Now if DEN could get a guy like FS Roman Harper from NO for Foxy, that would solve the FS spot completely. Getting a SS would be a 4th round priority.
DEN needs to work a deal to fill a spot on defense with a quality starter if possible for Foxy and/or Javon IMHO. To me, this is a must for this team.
Actually, what about Dallas? This is actually where this really occurred to me. I was actually looking at something to bridge the point gap between Dallas 29 and 22 and our 12. I think its the equivalent of a 3rd. I think if we traded Javon alone, he might get us a 4th. But if he is coupled with the 12, he might function as a 3rd in being used as a plug. The 12 basically allows the Cowboys to minimize risk.

I dont know if thats enough. DAl could just look at WRs in FA with NO injury history and draft a CB AND a WR in the 1st still. It would be a tough sell, and a team desperate for a move up would be the "selling" point. Javon would just be part of the deal. Tough call.

Perhaps Dallas would rather look to FA but theyd risk getting into a bidding war.

If they want McFadden it would sweeten the pot for them to move to 12.

I think Marion made it abundantly clear yesterday that DAL doesnt need a RB.
Their secondary needs some help though. Huh.....deja vu. Anyways, i just think DAL would really look hard at getting an injury prone WR.
Their trying to make a run for the SB and are just a piece or 2 away.
Jerry would scrutinize that deal like crazy! Just cause they have extra picks, make no mistake Ol' Jerry's no fool, he'll hold them for ransom if he knows a team is desperate. DEN would have to give up alot more.

Theyre likely losing Crayton and Glenn is a little on the old side.

But heres my thought LEX.
DAL is not the team with the massive needs.
DEN is.
DAL has 2 1st rounders. DEN does not.
DAL could just call CIN and say "hey, how bout a 1st rounder for Chad?"
CIN is in desperate need for help on defense and could USE 2 1st rounders!
Cin gets what they want and draft LBs and DTs and just put Chris Henry at WR along with Housh. They draft a WR in the 2nd. Lavelle Hawkins or Bennet.
DAL makes out, and CIN makes out. Both get what they want.
I'm not saying this is going to happen, but Jerry isnt in a position of desperate NEED. He has FA and BETTER teams to trade with than DEN.
He would rip Javons knee issue's apart to the point that DEN would be lucky to get a 5th rounder out of him.
Jerry holds ALL the cards right now in DAL. He isnt going to give up anything unless its for something really, really coveted, and in his teams best interest.
Javon is coming off an injury that took most of last season away from him, he's got a $4.4M roster bonus for this next season, and his base salaries for '09 and '10 are over $5M each.
Yeah, he'd get more as a sweetener, but its still not enough to equal a nutra-sweet packet.

Im not even sure I want to trade him but if we do, this would be the scenario. Straight up for anything less than a third with the kind of cap hit we would take is not good for us. Ultimately if Javon really wants out, he is going to have to be flexibile on restructuring. quid pro quo

I think if Javon is traded..he will be traded to the vikings and I think Troy Williamson will be part of the deal along with a late draft pick...

Didn't Crayton sign an extension the same week as Sanders???
I saw draft Desean Jackson at 12, keep Walker and turn this offense into the greatest show in the rockies.
Cutler with Marshal, Walker, Jackson, Stokely and Scheff as targets? Now that would be scary.
By the way, i'm not saying this will happen. It would be fun to watch if it did though! :)

Haha, I still figure the quickest way for this team to start winning games is to fill the last few holes on offense and just start winning shootouts, except I think the first move in that case is to build a rock solid offensive line. Jackson would be fun times though! A legit returner and a ST coach who finally seems like he miiiiiight have some idea what he's doing would be nice, plus a burner opposite Marshall sounds hot.
Wasn't Jackson kind of disappointing this year though? I always got the impression he already had a supastar attitude and played when he felt like it. But I am frequently wrong, anyone know his deal?

He messed up his wrist this year and honestly, looking at everything, injuries included, he wasn't even the best WR on his team, Lavelle Hawkins was.
Still... there are certain things you can't deny on the football field. Speed is one of them. Playmaking is another.
