So I was listening to the radio and they had some draft guy on espn radio but he said something that I hadent herd or seen anyone talk about on the mane. basically he stated that the first day of the draft would only be the first two rounds this year and that the second day would have the 3rd through 7th. If this is the case I really dont like haveing all of our picks bottled up 4-7 with nothing in the 3rd

Yes, this has been talked about a little bit. I asked Requiem and he had posted a response within another thread.
Not sure that I understand the rationale with the time of the picks being cut back, the first day will be pretty short in comparison to past years.

Its probably because the networks complained. When has the NFL not cowtowed to the networks? Why do you think the SB is practically unwatchable? Why do you think they have that stupid commercial timeout after the kickoffs now? Last year the first day lasted forever and people were complaining about it on the air....there was a lot of downtime and there are also a lot of viewers at home watching this now.

There was also the crap with Chicago where Olsen had a hat on before their pick even came up yet they took the entire time to announce the pick. Teams are using all the time whether it be to try and trade or simply to slow down things for later but it was taking way too long. They definitely needed to cut down the time. You shouldn't have that much to do the morning of the draft, everything has been analyzed and discussed already, you just have to decide which guy you want.
And yeah, all of this stuff came out last year while there was talk of making the draft a Friday night primetime event. By shortening the first day to two rounds and shortening the time, they hope to get people to at least watch the first day attentively. When it's 5 hours for the first day, most people just say screw it and check on it online. If it's 2 or 3 hours then people may actually sit down and watch. I love the changes.

What difference does it make? Players aren't going to quit football if they're not taken on the new first day. 4th rounders are still the same value, just wont be announced on the first day.

the thing I dont like is that instead of haveing time between the third and fourth it is now between the second and third and there just are not that many guys that are going to slip from the first day to the second like you would previously see. it makes a high fourth rounder less valuable in my opinion where previously I would have said that a high fourth is just as good as a middle third that just will not be the case any more.

Technically, yes ... but the night between the 3rd and the 4th round gave teams the chance to see who´s still out there, analyze players again, analyze how the draft has gone so far, rethink their strategy, adapt to the situation at hand and talk to other teams about a possible trade all with very little time pressure.
If the networks want to make people watch the draft again they should tell their crew to ****ing pay attention to what´s happening in the latter rounds. The latter rounds usually are just a marathon talk show with a newsticker at the bottom of your screen.
