So guys I just got a cold and it sux. I know this is not football related but come on its the offseason.
Ho w do you guys get rid of your colds and if you use a certain medication cause it is the "best" what it it. Cold suck and they are almost unpreventable. I am sure everyone on these boards has been through many colds.
So what do you do when you have a cold.......I personally just try to keep busy cause the more you think about ur nose I feel the more it gets worse. Exercise anything to keep me not thinking about my cold. (Musinex(conjestion/cough) and Sudafed(stuffy nose) help out A LOT too)

I just exercise and get rest. If I don't exercise, then I get sick a lot. When I'm doing things to stay healthy then I don't sick as much, and when I do I'm ove rit faster.
Oh, and vitamin C does nothing to help you get well.

Zicam.
But my colds dont last more than a day anymore. Probably due to how i got 6 or 7 from the summer to the fall this year.

I don't think this is true. I have read a bunch of articles on the benefits of vitamin C before and during a cold.

A zinc-based product like Zicam or Cold-Eze is good.
One baseball manager from many years ago offered his cure for a cold. You need two beds, one willing assistant, lots of sheets and a bathtub. The cold-sufferer takes a bath as hot as he/she can stand it. Then get into bed and sweat, sweat, sweat. Then when the sheets are soaked, go to the second bed and sweat some more while the willing assistant changes the sheets on the first bed. After the sheets are soaked on the second bed, return to the first bed while the willing assistant changes sheets on the second bed, etc. Keep repeating until the cold is gone.

Zinc and/or Cold Eze.
Clinical studies have shown that they cut the cold's duration in half.

Take a very hot bath and go straight to bed. You won't have to work at sweating, trust me.

Start drinking the good stuff. Liquor, and lot's of it. Kill the cold with straight shots of Wild Turkey 180. Then hit the Bacardi 151. Maybe throw in some Everclear.
In no time, you won't feel anything. You'll be right as rain.

Zicam works wonders but it works best if you take it right when the cold starts just like it says

Be a man and let the damn thing run its course. Optimize your immune system with rest, hydration, and nutrition. Realize that when you have: all appendages, intact skin, can breathe throught your mouth under your own power, sphincter control, and can sustain yourself by oral intake -- you really aren't that sick. Then thank god for your immune system, intact skin, and continent bowel.

No, vitamin C does nothing to get you well but it does a hell of a job in preventing you from getting one. I'm one of the only people in my office that hasn't suffered through one yet this year and it's like that every year. I do agree on the exercise and rest too. The colds I do get are no big deal. I rarely take anything extra when I have one.
A lot of friends swear by the zinc also.
One thing I've found over the years is that men get colds much more severly than women. With any illness they get it much worse than women. Anyway that's what the men in my life have told me. My women friends say their husbands tell them the same thing. ;D

If it is in my sinus I use a netti pot. Just started doing it a year ago. Seems to wash the cold away.

Actually after decades of study so far they have come to the conclusion Vitamin C does absolutely nothing to prevent a cold. However I agree with you on Zinc. I've taken Zinc and it's really helped limit the severity of the symptoms.
I've noticed that when men are sick it appears more severe, however knowing women's pain threshhold is supposedly much higher than men's, I've quietly wondered to myself if we men aren't really all just a bunch of big babies about getting sick. ;D

Rub some Vicks underneath your nostrils before you go to bed. I did it recently and it was amazing how it well it worked unclogging by dose...err...I mean, my nose...ROFL!

I take a 15 mg zinc tablet every day and I haven't had a cold in over 5 years
