View Full Version : My plan for the offseason

1) Coaches. Let's cut some of these extra coaches -- primarily at the coordinator level. I think its creating confusion and power struggles. Pick one guy at each, commit to him and move on.

2) Change your philosophy Part I. No more system offensive line. Realize that you win when talent and a system come together. Our talent is failing and us and drafting more guards in the 6th round won't help that. Running between the 20's is hollow yardage. See Willie Parker. We must emphasize building this team from the line of scrimmage out . I know its contrary to the idea that "we are one or two players away", because those players are always thought to be playmakers (eg. skill position guys).

3) Change your philosophy Part II. Don't buy a team of FAs. Have a balanced approach that emphasizes the draft. Yes a few key FAs will help, but you can not buy a team anymore. Everyone has cap space and teams have figured out how to keep the talent they want. What's more, with our struggles we have lost the discount for veterans that want to win. That goes to NE, so we can't rely on it anymore.

4) Change your philosophy Part III. Avoid turnover where possible. This team -- especially the young guys -- need consistency. Cutting the fat (see #1) must be done, but wholesale changes aren't always the answer. It's tough to win in this league with only a handful of starters holding over from year to year. I know Shanahan will be tempted to change everything -- he always is and especially when things look so bleak -- but don't do it.

5) Change your philosophy Part IV. Special teams matter. If Elam can't kick off anymore, maybe he needs to move on. Find a returner.

6) Where's the hunger? This team seems more concerned about not losing than winning. San Diego flat out embarrassed us and mocked us on national TV. Get pissed off and fight. Find coaches and players that won't go quietly. No more lamenting about one or two plays away. Get mad. Fight. Play like it matters to you.

Elam hasn't kicked off in a long time.

I would hope the FO would come right out and say that they are rebuilding.....

I don't think big money FAs is the way to build any more. The sparkies got lucky becasue they were so bad. I don't want the number one pick, but I do hope the Broncos emphsize the lines and the LBs. Those are the guys that make winning the game possible. Imagine LT behind Miami's line, and you get the picture quick. Or maybe Denver's.... What if Stroud and Henderson played in Denver?

I don't think we have to "rebuild". We have talent. We have a potential franchise QB. We have a good organization (coach, GM, owner). Its not all bad.

We have to get better up the middle -- Guard, Center, DT, and Safety. I think if we improve in those areas that our team will look much better, quickly. Our LB player may not be up to standard, but it looks worse than it is because the DL is getting handled.

I know this loss has people up in arms, but really are things that bad?

We need to get a LT to groom behind Lepsis, but our interior line is young and solid. We need some help at DT where I'd like to see us draft a stud and get someone in FA since rookie DTs usually don't help too much.

I think we can get by with Webster at SAM. For a guy who got his first significant playing time in a year after being a MLB his whole career, I think he did OK. He's not a long term solution but he's not someone who needs to be replaced immediately either. Winborn is young and has alot of talent, lets see if maybe he can be the answer at WLB. I think we are set in the secondary, but we could use a young safety to groom.

And we absolutely need to get a punter.

How often have we said, this since John retired. If you don't make right choices every year the same song and dance every year. This team has lots of needs denial is not good.

Well, yeah.

Look, I am accostomed to seeing the Broncos in the playoffs or at least threatening to be in the playoffs or at the very least, busting balls playing the game. That didn't happen last night, and the play the past several games support the fact that this is a lousy team right now.

I had agreed that it would take 5-6 games for the D to learn Bates' system, They are still out in left field while the game is at hoime plate. Henry and Graham were big money boys and Bly gets a hiunk of change, and who else? Were they worth those dollars?

No, there needs to be some accounting here, be it coaches, players or waterboys. Even the Cheeerleaders looked punked out this year.... Put this together with the really, really stupid losses this year (GB and Chi and Jags come to mind) , and it is more than just the "people need experience" crap, and "give talent time to grow". Talent shows progress over a year. These guys didn't.....

Paid like a pro, play like a pro. They deserve to be skewered.....

How often since John retired have we had a franschise QB to go along with all the talent at WR, TE and RB? ??? When, since the Super Bowl years have you seen the front office commited to building the lines like they are now?

We're going to be just fine, believe me.
