View Full Version : Javon Walker's Future?

wide receiver Javon Walker (knee) were also listed on the injury report but practiced fully.

“I’m finally happy to be to the point where (the knee) is getting healthy,” Walker said. “It’s getting strong. I can approach the offseason ready to have goals for what I want to do for next year.”

Walker needs to shut it down for the rest of the season. We don't need his production this year, but we'll definitely need it next year...

He'll be in Denver next year... at least he should be.

Lets not make more out of this than it is. The guy got hurt during a preseason game playing balls to the wall, like he does. He tries to push through, it doesn't work, he eventually has surgery and misses most of the year. That is the way it has been for Denver this year.

I saw enough out of him two years ago with a limp armed QB at the helm to know this guy, paired up with Brandon Marshall can be one of the most devestating WR combo's in the league.

Let the guy heal, let the guy practice and we'll get back to work next year.

Javon is going to be fine, as there was no new structural damage to the knee caused by the shots he took this year.

After an offseason to heal and get back to football shape, he'll be back to form.

The 2008 off-season is going to be very interesting. Some key players are free agents (restrict/non), the are team options on certian players that may cuase players to become free agents.

The market will have some interesting talent available and the Bronocs will be in the group of teams with decent cap space.

man i cant beleive the offseason is almost here....AAAAAAAAH I HATE THE OFFSEASON, after winter break Broncos football is over till August/September. New Years and Bronco football is done, i think im gonna cry. This offseason may be interesting but im pissed now. Walker's here to stay by the way.

Was thinking the same thing. Why not just shut him down for the year and start getting healthy? There is no point of him even trying to play the remaining 2 games.

There is too big of an investment in Walker to have him playing in these last 2 meaningless games. Our offense is leaps and bounds more effective with him in the lineup next year. When's the last time we've have 2 bonefide #1 guys at the WR position that on any play can take it to the house? Even Ed and Rod didn't combine for the talent and gamebreaking ability Marshall and Walker have.

keep walker so we can invest our whole offseason into DT and LB, maybe MAYBE a RB

im in favor of shutting him down the rest of this season also.
the important thing is that he's healthy and ready to go NEXT season.

with a healthy walker, marshall, and stokley (and God willing rod for one last hurrah) we'll have a stellar receiving corps.

WHO CARES who is #1?!!!!!

shanahan needs to do a good job managing this, and PUBLICALLY say that we have TWO #1's, and MORE than enough balls to go around.
stroke both these guys ego's, and keep them both happy.
we need them.

And to add to that thought, if we can get some quality play from our OT's next season, that will free Graham up to run some more routes. The guy really can catch well from the TE position if given the opportunity and would compliment our offense very nicely.

I say keep him for 08 but, I can't say I'm that convinced he will ever do much for us again. We can't get any move to work right these days. Time to fire Shanny :).

Crush is right - shut it down for these last two, there's too much to lose. After all, with Javon healthy, our 1-2-3-4 receiver punch in '08 will rival even the Pats, Cowboys, Colts and Cards: Marshall+Javon+Scheffler+Stokley is a feasome foursome. Don't jeopardize that just to play hero these last couple weeks.

Word out of Denver is that despite some rumors that have the team contemplating parting ways with WR Javon Walker, the Broncos are going to do everything they can to keep him in town. Walker, who missed much of the year with an ailing knee, is finally beginning to round back into form physically. Problem is, he is due a $5.4 million option bonus in 2008, which may have to be reworked.

Got this from profootball weekly. They are normally very realiable.

Walker may not have enough cartilidge left to handle the rigors of the NFL. He may need microfracture but he didn't want to do it because its a scary procedure to undergo.

This is absolutely not true. As Wabbit has started multiple times there was no new structural damage to the knee. Now that his knee has healed he will start to get back into football shape and he will be just fine.

That's true...further, Shanahan is peppered with questions about Walker & his health seemingly every press conference, but the news is always the same; he's getting better & no new surgeries are expected (even Walker himself has denied even considering microfracture surgery).

Now, having said that, I remember the Broncos saying almost that exact same thing between the 95-96 seasons about John Elway when he was having all those elbow issues and the result was; elbow surgery.

So, maybe someone is hiding the truth, but as of right now, both Walker and the team maintain the line that his health is improving and he's looking forward to re-hab & a 100% return for 2008.

Last season he was the undisputed offensive MVP, which is more impressive considering the flux/turmoil the QB situation was in (look at the other top receivers from last year or even this year... most of them have Manning, Palmer, Brady et al. throwing to them). You got to look as much at that as you do his injury plagued season this year. Marshall's going to be great (if you make the argument he isn't there already) but Stokley is questionable as a #2 (a great #3 though). And it may be time to clear a spot on the Ring of Fame for Rod. The only way I could justify letting Walker go on salary cap grounds is if the freed up space was enough to bring in an impact DT or linebacker... given the recent track record though it may still be better to keep that money dedicated to a proven WR.

Is it better to rely on the assumption that he will regain form or is it better to focus on someone with a more stable history healthwise? Who could we get instead? As a Cubs fan I might be unnecessarily wary due to years of watching the Cubs hope Wood and Prior would be healthy. Who else is out there?

Thanks for posting that. None of those guys measure up but if I were to pick someone it would be Samie Parker. He is probably the fastest of those available and would at least give us a deap threat.

I would actually prefer Berrian but I think I dont really think he'll be an option.

Yea, i like Berrian as well but he is their best receiver so like you i doubt he will be let go. Same with Crayton. Davis might be a option and would help our special teams immensely and probably would work as a #3 if need be. Dont know much about Parker but would he be a difference maker on this team? I dont know.

Parker is a sprinter...probably more of a sprinter than a football player but with Jay back there instead of the QBs theyve had in KC, his speed might matter more.

College Bio
Saw duty in 50 games (29 starts) during his tenure at Oregon, catching 178 passes for 2,761 yards (15.5 avg.) with 19 TDs … Also rushed five times for 19 yards … Worked with the Ducks track team his first three collegiate seasons … Placed third in the 100-meters at the Pac 10 Championships before winning the event at the NCAA qualifying meet and finishing fifth (10.41) in the 2003 NCAA Championships … Finished fourth in the 60-meters at both the 2002 and 2003 NCAA Indoor Nationals (6.62) ... Started all 13 games at split end as a senior in 2003, leading the team with a career-high 77 receptions for 1,088 yards (14.1 avg.) with seven TDs … Shattered Oregon’s previous single-season record of 67 catches by Bob Newland in ‘70. Only Newland (1,123 in ‘70) gained more yards receiving in a season for the Ducks than Parker … Earned All-Pac 10 honorable mention accolades …Recipient of the Duane J. Cargill Award, given to the team’s impact player, as chosen by the coaching staff … Started all 13 games his junior campaign in 2002 … Earned All-Pac 10 honorable mention honors … Led the team with 49 receptions for 724 yards (14.8 avg.) and eight TDs … Saw duty in 12 games with three starts at split end in 2001 as a sophomore … Finished third on the team with 41 receptions for 748 yards (18.2 avg.) and four TDs … His 18.2 yards-per-catch average ranked third in the Pac 10 Conference … Played in 12 games as a reserve redshirt freshman in 2000, making 11 catches for 201 yards (18.3 avg.) ... Redshirted as a true freshman in ‘99 … Majored in Ethnic Studies at Oregon.

BTW, even if Berrian leaves the Bears, there will be some team who doesnt have a Brandon Marshall that would be willing to pay more for Berrian.

Those lists don't interest me much, simply because we have only two positions of serious need: DT and Punter. Gold had a decent year, Hamza is a comer, we're loaded at RB, QB, TE, WR, DE, CB, etc...

I suppose we could use another OT and a safety ... and I hope we target a playmaking Will in the draft, but I just don' think we need to bring a bunch more new faces to a team that still has not fully integrated all the new faces we have now.

This past week I saw the Philly game from just two little years ago - 10-30-05 (thanks Atlas). Nobody is still around. Foster, Carlisle, Tatum Bell, Mike Anderson, Lelie, Todd Devoe, Jeb Putzier, Plummer, BVP, Trevor, Courtney Brown, DWill, Gerad Warren, Al Wilson, Spragan, ... and the very few that are still here now missed all year with injuries: Rod, Nalen, Hamilton, Ekuban, Kyle Johnson, etc.... This isn't actally a free arent thread I guess, but I'll start saying it now: Sign NOBODY! just the draft and 2 other guys, tops.
