2002:
1-19 Ashley Lelie --- Gave us 4 solid years, including 1084 yards in 2004. Traded for the pick used on Ryan Harris and Washington's 2006 4th rounder
2-51 Clinton Portis --- Gave us two 1500 yard seasons. Traded for Champ Bailey and the Tatum Bell pick
3-96 Dorsett Davis --- Bust
4-131 Sam Brandon --- Gave us 5 good years before a dan knee inury. Great in the "big nickel" package. May return next year.
5-144 Herb Haygood --- Bust
6-191 Jeb Putzier --- Gave us 2 productive seasons with around 500 yards.
7-228 Chris Young --- Bust
7-231 Monsanto Pope --- 3 Seasons as a rotational guy. Not bad for a late 7th rounder
Summary: 5 solid picks out of 8
2003:
1-20 George Foster --- Started here for 3 years. Never lived up to expectations, but still started for 3 years. Traded along with Tatum Bell and a 5th round pick for Dre Bly and a 6th rounder.
2-52 Terry Pierce --- Bust
4-108 Quentin Griffin --- In the rotation for a couple seasons. Showed flashes, but just didn't really fit the system. Single-handedly won that Colts game. For a 4th-rd pick, I'll give him half a point.
4-114 Nick Eason --- Bust
4-128 Bryant McNeal --- Bust
5-157 Ben Claxton --- Bust
5-158 Adrian Madise --- Bust
6-194 Aaron Hunt --- Bust
7-227 Clint Mitchell --- Bust
7-235 Ahmaad Galloway --- Bust
Summary: 1.5 solid picks out of 10. But of those 10 picks, only two were on the first day.
2004:
1-17 DJ Williams --- Has been a starter his whole career. Led the team in tackles as a rookie. Is leading the team in tackles this year at MLB. One of the few bright spots on defense
2-41 Tatum Bell --- Gave us 3 seasons. One just shy of 1000 yards and then 1000 yards last year. Traded with George Foster and a 5th for Dre Bly and a 6th
2-54 Darius Watts --- Could get open consistently, just couldn't come down with the ball. For a 2nd round pick with a lot of upside, he was a Bust.
3-85 Jeremy LeSuer --- Bust
5-152 Jeff Shoate --- Fought a lot of injuries. Contributed some this year. But... Bust
6-171 Triandos Luke --- Bust
6-190 Josh Sewell --- Bust
7-225 Matt Mauck --- Bust
7-247 Brandon Miree --- Bust
7-250 Bradlee Van Pelt --- Spent a whole season as our lone QB backup. Scored a TD. That's production for a 7th rounder in my book.
Summary: 3 solid picks out of 10. Including 4 first day picks. Disappointing draft.
2005:
2-56 Darrent Williams --- great player and starter his first two seasons. Rest in Peace
3-76 Karl Paymah --- Contributor at dimeback, has imrpoved this season
3-97 Domonique Foxworth --- started some as a rookie. Great versatility, as he now starts at safety
3-101 Maurice Clarett --- Bust
6-200 Chris Myers --- Starter on the O-line
7-239 Paul Ernster --- one year as a kickoff specialist and another as our primary punter. That's production for a 7th rounder
Sunnary: 5 solid picks out of 6. Great draft.
2006:
1-11 Jay Cutler --- ESPN recently called him the best young QB in the league. Our future.
2-52 ***traded for Javon Walker***
2-61 Tony Scheffler --- Starting-caliber TE. Great chemistry with Cutler and great production.
4-119 Brandon Marshall --- Absolute beast. Over 1000 yards receiving this year.
4-126 Elvis Dumervil --- Easily our best defensive lineman,
4-130 Domenik Hixon --- Beat Chuck Norris in a fight. Bust
5-161 Chris Kuper --- Starter on the O-line
6-198 Greg Eslinger --- just not strong enough. Bust
Summary: 5 solid picks out of 7. Turned another pick into a 1000 yard receiver in Javon Walker via trade. Hell of a draft
2007:
1-17 Jarvis Moss
2-56 Tim Crowder
3-70 Ryan Harris
4-121 Marcus Thomas
Summary: too soon to tell. We needed to improve the lines, and we did just that.
So I would say 2002, 2005, 2006, and 2007 were great drafts. 2003 and 2004 were both pretty disgusting. But all in all, a better track record than the "one pick remaining on the roster" headline would lead you to believe. No decisions here, just some info for you to look at. Do with it what you please.
