One thing that I have been debating with my brother is Tony Scheffler's acrobat TD grab...If you have the film, please watch it again, and tell me if that is turf tape hanging from his right elbow or a 3 x 3 inch chunk of skin just after he scores his somersault TD. He raises his arms and there is something hanging f/his right elbow. My brother and I have been debating it all week and we need someone with additional expertise to step in and decide. Anyone? Help?

I finally sat down to watch the game vs. Texans today. It looked a lot better than the scoreboard indicated. Denver really killed themselves once again inside the choking hot red zone. Other than that, the game was a good effort, things just don't go right all the time. If you watch the film a few things that I found interesting:

1) our d-line was held a lot in the first half. In fact, I counted 5 missed holding calls that gave 'Sage' more time to throw. It sounds like whining, but it was obvious and typically on the lineman closest to the qb.

2) Brandon Marshall really could have had the Broncos record of receptions...he should have caught 2 balls for tds in the game. Why he didn't run a slant on the 3rd quarter 4th and 7 is beyond excuse. Texans had 7 in the box and we only had 6 blocking (get a clue dude)...everyone knows you throw to the side of the blitz and the middle of the field was wide open. The defender was 10 yards off, playing very soft, it would have easily been a 12-14 yard play on a 4th and 7. Instead we let the safety get to Jay and he threw it away. Tough play but you gotta convert or at least attempt to do so - Jay and Brandon missed it!

3) Jay had too few options at WR making some forced throws that were horrible. He had 4 possible INT's in the game and really made some bad choices...He also had some amazing throws, but seemed to slump back into a bad crap session in the 3rd and 4th quarter. He needs to stay with his fundamentals regardless of pressure.

4) The offensive line wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Sure there were some embarassing missed assignments by all 5, but no one really sucked consistently. I did notice that we were having to double Mario a lot which is a sign that we need a better Left OT. Lepsis is good but he isn't great. Pears was just average. Kuper did a great job but quits too early on his run blocking. Selvin and Jay could have had some great runs if he would have stayed with his block 1-2 seconds longer. Its natural to get beat a few times, but the plays with missed assignments led to some hard 3rd and long plays.

5) Tell me why Shanny needs to run the ball? They shut the running game down in the 2nd half and yet we were still calling the run - it was killing me! Especially seeing how well our passing game was going. Someone please tell Mike that a short pass is as good as a run and can set up double moves for WR later in the game. We honed in on Marshall all game long...which is fine, but why didn't we go more with the 3 WR (slot WR) set? It would have opened up the running game 'draws' and 'counters' you doof! The playcalling was bad on 3rd and 4th in the 3rd quarter. You have to shake your head when its 4th and 10 and you have a TE and 1 WR and a RB as options for a first. WTH?!

6) This team really is good, BUT, must find a way to score. There red zone choking is just unacceptable. We could have easily put the Texans away, in fact, our offense outplayed their D most of the game. It's just unacceptable to miss on that many red zone opportunities. I'm tired of re-hashing the same topic...it's gotta change period. It was atrocious!!! After seeing this as a 3-4 year problem of the past, its easy to become de-sensitized to it as a Broncos fan. Personally, if you can't score points, you suck just as bad as the team that can run or pass. Our offense has amazing possibilities and something or someone is screwing it up in the redzone and its not anyone with a helmet on, it is someone in the booth or on the sidelines. I'm tired of it and it is unacceptable.

It was tape. I noticed it flapping around several times when they showed him on camera.

You need to run the ball to keep the defense line honest and create doubt so you can use the play action. Plus effective running game is the easiest way to break the will of the defense. In addition this teams doesn't have a lot draws, counters or screens in it's play book, so you're not going to see a lot of those plays.
