Jamie Winborn gets two year extension
Broncos signed LB Jamie Winborn to a two-year extension through 2009.
Teams have always been intrigued by Winborn's athleticism for his size, but injuries have caused him to bounce around since being a 2001 second-round pick. He's still relatively young at 28, and the Broncos hope he'll push for a starting spot in 2008 after a full year in Jim Bates' system.

I think if this guy can stay off the IR he could be a valuable asset for us...

I don't mind him being on team he seems decent on ST and an AVG linebacker but if they start trying to lay him off as the answer to next yrs linebacker corps then we really do need to fire Shanny.

Guy plays with alot of fire and intensity. I would not mind letting him have a shot at a starting spot.

Broncos need to draft a stud middle linebacker and move DJ to the weakside IMO. SSL isn't near as important you can fill that with an avg player. I do think though we need above avg play from the weakside and the middle for this defense to work well.

Not true at all. Winborn had shown alot of promise with the 49ers before injuries got him sidetracked.
The guy has what it takes to be a legitimate starting linebacker if he stays healthy.

I wasnt high on dj at middle to start, but i think he is our answer at middle. better than inserting a new guy, at at any rate.

Webster is the starting SAM by default. I think Warrick Holdman would have beat him out.

He's deffinetly had some top notch DF schooling along his way to the Broncos with stops at Jacksonville and Tampa...
Solid, solid special teamer. Plays hard and brought energy to the team.
Broncos front office saying to all players "If you work hard, play hard and help this team, then you will be rewarded.

Which is a good thing considering the recent releases.
I like what I've seen from Winborn. Is he the next Lance Briggs... probably not. But he can be a very serviceable OLB for us and plays excellent Special Teams. Bare in mind the Broncos have liked this kid since he came into the league and once upon a time the Niners had an outstanding LB corps led by Julian Peterson, but Winborn played a big part as well.

He played the quifes with the type of intensity that needs to infect this team. It was also nice to finally see Paul Smith on ST. Seeing someone on our ST take a perfect angle and explode through the runner almost brought a tear to my eye...

Winborn's problems have been less about injuries and more caused by his tendency to abandon the defensive scheme and freelance too much. If he's ready to accept coaching and play with some discipline, he's got more than enough athletic ability to start in this league.

Him and Mallard have turned out to be real good mid-season pick ups. I hope they extend Mallard the same if they haven't already.

Here you all go buying a bunch of crap again. If anyone thinks the only thing this linebacking corps needs is Winborn next year you are all insane. If anything we need 2 new starting linebackers and neither of them are named Winborn. He's good for depth and special teams and that it.

We do need more then just Winborn but he is a nice start. He plays his butt off and earned the extra years. He could end up being a Burns type of player.

Injury prone player with tremendous upside. Perfect fit for Shanny's PLAN.
I do hope he pans out but not holding my breath.

He's decent depth which is what Webster should've been when he was signed to that 2 year minimum extension.
We'll be drafting at least 1 LB'er in the first 2 rounds. Bank on it.

I think Broncos will add 3 young linebackers. Maybe only 1 a high pick and then some college FA but maybe even 2 selected with draft picks. solid depth at the linebacking position is a must for good tackling on special teams.
