Going to be the new man at CSU. I think this a pretty good hire for the Rams, he's studied under some pretty darn good coaches as an assistant, and the O in Buffalo has been pretty good this year in spite of some spotty QB play and an injury to their franchise rookie RB. Your thoughts?

Great hire for the Rams. I am all for increasing te level of play at all of the Colorado Schools. Now we have excellent coaches at CU, CSU and AFA. I've met Faichild a few times. A very nice guy.
I am hearing that he was pretty much shoved down the throat of the AD by former players and contributors who threatened to pull their support if he was not hired.

While I think this was a great hire, having the inmates (boosters, former players, etc) running the asylum is never a good thing. Good luck to Fairchild, he's got his work cut out for him.

Isn't that how all major colleges work?

Some yes, certainly not all. Many AD's will hire "their" guy as the football coach and the AD's legacy is typically linked directly to the success of the football coach he hired. Not quite the case at CSU. Hopefuly this appeases the fan base and they can start filling that stadium up again.

Wow! Maybe CSU can start cracking the top 25 again.
Colorado State has hired Steve Fairchild as their next football head coach, the school announced today.
Fairchild currently is the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills. The school said Fairchild will meet with the media via teleconference Thursday, along with CSU athletic director Paul Kowalczyk.
"Steve Fairchild has a long-standing history of success at Colorado State," Kowalczyk said in a statement. "both as a student-athlete and coach," Kowalczyk said in a statement release this morning. "I know that he has great passion for this university, this program and this community."

I know, I'm a CU guy too, but as much as I root against the Rams when we play, I hate to see the program be that bad. It would be nice if that rivalry game was between two contenders and really meant something. It's sad when Air Force is the only Colorado team sniffing 10 wins.

The proof will be in who he gets as assistants. Hopefully, he will attract some players because he's been a pro coach.

I think they made the right choice. Fairchild is a classy guy. You pretty much have to hire a classy guy after having Sonny as your coach for so long. Fairchild should keep the boosters happy, and hopefully restore the football program.

All kidding aside, I think it is a great choice! I'm sad to see Coach Lubick go but it is nice to see them get a former player/coach!
See ya in Sept. Coach Fairchild!

This is a good choice for the Rams. He will command respect and his NFL background will help with recruiting. He also is a Ram hero and that will get immediate support from the plebes.
