View Full Version : Coaching Changes this Offseason?

So, if you're pulling the trigger, do you make changes to any of the assistant head coach/coordinator positions?

A poll is forthcoming.

I'm leaving "Fire Shanahan" off the poll. Those threads end up going nowhere, and it's just not happening.

This is a multiple option poll, so you can check all that apply.

My vote would be to leave them all in place. I am not a huge fan of Mike Heimerdinger, but I think consistency is important when you're developing a young QB.

As for O'Brien and Bates - these guys didn't get stupid in the offseason. I'd say you give each of them at least another season, to see how their units pick up their systems. I will say that O'Brien worries me more than Bates. Special teams shouldn't take as long to develop, it would seem. Still, this team needs some cohesion, for a change.

What about hiring a new GM and shanahan is just the head coach?.....I'd like to see that...dman

Bring 'em all back at least for one more season. I'd like to go one offseason without any changes and see where that gets us. Changing head coaches every year hasn't worked too well for Oakland.

I know logic dictates that you give a coach a few years to implement his system, but I'm really having a hard time trying to figure out how Bates sticks this offseason, considering we've now cut every defensive player we brought in specifically to fit his "system" since he's been here.

To much change over makes us the Washington Redskins. Let the guys implement their system before we make a judgement. BTW I think Dennison moves along to Houston as the new Assistant HC for Kubes this off season

they have not cut every bates player. they cut the FA's he brought in, but they also drafted young talent to fit bates system.

i would give bates another year...what i felt they were doing is trying to address their needs in the draft and pick up stop gap guys in the FA. the FA guys sucked, EE got hurt...but the younger guys have promise.

Or, how about giving personnel decisions back to our current GM? We've got a pretty good one, but he's been neutered by Bowlen in favor of Mikey.

Just Moss.

Crowder is not a prototypical Bates DE.

And M. Thomas is definitely not a prototypical Bates DT.

so were they hiring these for Coyer? Coyer coulda really used them as help in his strategy which worked more often than Bates has to date

A coach needs talent to be successful. Bring them all back and give them players. Just an unbiased rival view.

I think Dennison gets the CSU job.

Bate's system relies on a solid D-line, and he can't rebuild it in just one season.

I've rarely seen anybody blame Slowik for our troubles. Does he do enough to warrant ridicule or is this too much of a Bates system and Slowik is just taking up space????

No kidding, I have been calling for the guy to be fired ever since he was the ST coach.

Is it possible to fire a coach during the season? Saaay around week 14 for example?

BAAAATES!

It's the players fault not the coaches.

It's even harder when you have it somewhat rebuilt, only to tear most of it back down again....

That would be a good fit.

Replace Dennison, Slowik, and O' Brien. Im willing to give Bates another year in hopes that the defense can find some chemistry. But if we finish as bad as we are now defensively than he should go.

Works for me. But shanahan needs to worry about two things, X's and O's, that's it. Deal with it mike, you quite simply aren't the beats all that ends all anymore, 10 years of not getting it done has put you here. We'll see our way clear to give you a season to get the ship righted, then it's time to shift rudders.............dman

You can't change coaches every season and expect to get anywhere. What this team needs is some playmakers, not new coaches.

Denneson to CSU? Hey, don't throw your trash in our back yards.

I would prefer Dorrell from UCLA......

(One L or two? Anyway, him.)

Sonny made 500k last season, Dorrell made 1.5m

I voted bring them all back.

And the Shanahan-Sundquist tandem has been working pretty well the last few years, that needs to stay in place also.
