View Full Version : Cutler - a full 16 games (thoughts)

He's finally through 16 games and I for one really think he's doing a great job for us and his future looks very very good. I think I read he's had some of the best stats ever for a QB with only 16 games. The offense is getting better each week it seems. Still a few red zone issues but with your #1 center and your #1 WR and your #1 RB out with injury, they've done pretty darn good. Now we just need a defense that can get off the field and some special teams and we should be looking good.

Back to Cutler though - although the season is not looking so great, it's comforting to know that we have a young stud in the making at QB.

Throw the stats away. Cutler's a leader with a phenomenal arm and good mobility. He proved his toughness in K.C. Watching him play with all the injuries to our team this year, it's hard to think that he's only been the starting QB for one full year now. He's extremely mature. There's some things he needs to work on still, like making the correct reads on LBs dropping into coverage. Overall, he's done great. We just need the W-L record to justify it.

One can attribute many of the L's to our crappy defense during Cutlers tenure so far.

If Jay had Albert Haynesworth, Vanden Bosh, and Keith Bullock, Cutlers record as a starter would be incredible.

Just read somewhere that only Dan Marino, of the greatest QBs of all time, had better stats after 16 games...it's all about continuing to develop though. So far Jay has been a baller

He's been doing an outstanding job. He seems like he has been getting better and better over recent weeks which is really nice but another thing I like is how he has handled himself during a season that has had its share of ups and downs.

I was going to start this thread (Curse you Zona!) but was going to wait until after the Raiders game. I'm sorry, but the Lions game doesn't count as a start as he only played like four snaps. I also wanted to compare him against the Raiders on the road after learning since his game against the Raiders at home earlier in the year. I felt it would allow for a more true before and after gauge.

Regardless of the Lions game those numbers are crazy! Unbelievably the things that make him great cannot be defined by stats.

At this rate, even ESPN will be all over our balls in like a year. This kid is going to...maybe almost singlehandedly, propel this franchise into an elite stratosphere in a relatively short period of time. He's just progressing at an astronomical rate. It's literally crazy, Chris. The ride is going to be so enjoyable. We were all robbed of this with Elway. There wasn't a good faith effort made to highlight his strengths and develop him properly and put him in a position to succeed and really unleash him until about 1993 and we were only able to witness the full uninhindered greatness in just a fleeting way, a few years. He should have owned every record.....been the first name always mentioned in a discussion of pure greatness at quarterback. We were all denied that.

We're not going to be denied it now. It's not going to be a short window. We're going to be like a little 12 yr. old kid that goes to Disneyland the first time and gets to ride on Space Mountain 15 straight times without waiting in line. It's going to be exhilirating and long lasting. Buckle up.

His yard per attempt and completion percentage are mind boggling.
And of course third down completion and conversion percentage. He is one of the best third down quarterbacks in the NFL. Compare that to Jake Plummer who was the worst third down QB in the NFL. It's crazy to go from last to almost first in no time at all. We're a blessed Franchise.

Well ESPN will never get off of Brady's jock. Then they'll go back to Manning. Cutler will never get a lot of press because of where he lives. I don't care, though.

And you're right. Money QB's are what take a team into elite status. If your QB is awesome, the rest is a lot easier to put into place. Cutler is going to be one of the best ever at the rate he's going. I can only imagine what he'll be like after this offseason of breaking down tape and cleaning up his rough spots. One more offseason of letting Marshall, Scheffler, Stokely, the line and (hopefully) Walker to come together - It's going to be disgusting.

Bravo! That's exactly the reason why I don't understand the doom and gloom from some posters here. The outcomes this year are irrelevant in the big picture. There was a lot to be excited about from watching the Bears game on Sunday. Broncos football is exciting once again. The offense is on the cusp of being an elite unit. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

I said it earlier in the season and I'll say it again, Cutler is a franchise QB.

Give this kid better pass protection (altho it is improving) and a better running game and we can forget about the offense for the next four/five years.

The only roadblock I see now is our front 7 on D.

I seen the KC & Tenn games as watersheds for Cutler...he has come a very long way and he's still developing. A fully developed Cutler will be a monster QB..will it take another 16 games to get there? Less? More? Who really knows?

Sit back and enjoy the ride indeed.

Cutler to Marshall! Next Big Duo in the NFL. ESPN will not be able to ignore Cutler too much longer. Once he truly has his breakout, that's it.

I have been watching closely over the pass few games, and Cutler is becoming more acruate every game( The 1st half of the Bears game aside)

"Oh but his W-L record was better"

Maybe b/c that had something to do with Champ Bailey having one of the most incredible 2-year runs a defensive player has ever had, plus having basically two 1,000 yrd rushers.

Plus our Defense against the run was much better than it is now,

I am not one of those hereon that had anything whatsoever negative to say about the O. I think Cutler is going to be a great QB, an will be listed as one of the four or five better QBs in the league the next year or so (Manning, Brady, Palmer, Cutler and Ben. My assumption is that Favre will be gone, but he would be sixth in my list, although he's had a good year this year. The talent drops from there, IMHO. (Romo, Anderson, Brees, Rivers, Croyle, and Feedlebaum).

The accolades for Cutler will come when he wins the Trophy. Stats and last second and team wins are nice, but getting the trophy is the thing those swinging D**** understand. I think this young man has a great future in front of him.

I don't care what his record is. He is going to be a great QB. He has such a tremendous arm, intelligence and work ethic. He is going to the Hall of Fame if Shanny stays in Denver. He is the best QB of the last 3 or 4 drafts (next to Croyal of course) and Shanny is restocking the offense to score points. So I look for more points and wins next year as this offense gets a year of experience under their belts.

The TD pass to Marshall last week was a perfect example of the maturing process of Jay Cutler. He had go routes on the outside and one deep safety in the middle of the field. When he drops back he freezes the FS and then at the last minute turns and launches one to Marshall. Had the same play been called in Week 2 I bet Cutler looks at Marshall the whole way and the FS either breaks up the pass or makes the tackle

Now if we can just score from the 3 on 1st/2nd and goal the offense would be golden

Cutler is the man, appearing to be "top of the class" of the qb's in the '06 draft. Beat Leiart and Young, outplayed them in both games, he is going to be a big time baller once we get our line figured out...

but to be a devils advocate he has thrown at least one INT in every game he has played in (except Lions, but that doesnt count) and Titans...

It may have been last game or the game before but they showed Cutler's stats when he gets out of the pocket, they were frickin unreal, and when you consider he's been a rookie during that, it's even more unreal. Once we get some health and more talent on the line and another starting WR, Cutler's "pocket" stats should go up as well.

I know it's hard to watch and most have probably deleted the game, but if you can, go back and watch the second half of the Bears game. Some of the throws Cutler makes are his best of the year and they were made in clutch situations in terrible conditions (road game, rain and mud). He's awesome.
