Free Market is a theory that deals with how prices are set for good and services. It has nothing to do with how a country determines citizenship.
In fact some would argue economies are more a demand economy where the govt lets some things be free market, but then controls the price of other goods. There really are no totally free markets because all govt do some subsidies but America does less of those then most.

Why, Spider! I didn't realize you were such a globalist. Ha! Cast down those borders! Flush the national sovereignty! After all, a border is just a line on a map. Can't we all just get along?
We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day

There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day
Just you and me...

Actually, I think Mexico has a good idea. Why doesn't America export its poor? We could print nice little travel brochures: "Life in Canada is better. You'll enjoy socialized medicine. Come to Canada." It would be great. Then, we wouldn't have to spend a dime educating our poor, creating jobs, providing health care and human services and all that other crap or worrying about a great mass of discontented poor folks simmering beneath a layer of institutionalized corruption. We could just sit on our asses and enjoy the remittances, just like Mexico.

Canada has stricter immigration policies? Does Canada consider anyone born
there to automatically be a Canadian citizen, for example?

So does Mexico. I remember watching this interview with the Mexican foreign minister last year where he was bragging that Mexico had locked up and then deported 250,000 Central and South Americans who were in Mexico illegally. In Mexico, the penalty for being undocumented is one year in jail. Of course, if the big, bad U.S. was to lock up an illegal, they'd organize a march through our streets and desecrate our flag while our media broadcast endless tearjerkers about families disrupted by the nasty, evil ICE. Did you ever get the feeling that we're being played like chumps? ;D

I'm not into a totally free market -- every decison has a "cost" -- and the cost of illegal immigration in my opinion is much greater than its benefits.
many times when people talk about free trade they are on the top of the heap, and only stand to gain from screwing over the little guy.
There are some problems that can be fixed by having less regulation of the economy, and trade -- but doesnt it seem that the rules only apply to the USA? Other governments like Japan are engaged in protectionist policies, while we dont hold up a mirior in terms of tax policy of thier goods -- to me that is part of the reason we are loosing the trade war.

I'm guessing you are trying to define a "free market economy".
And I'm sure you realize that the term is theoretical concept not used or implemented in any country in the world without restrictions?
For a real good example, take a look at the United States which defines non-citizens who enter the country illegally (whether they work here or not) as criminals.

well, I never have been, nor will I ever be for a total free market...just like I will never be for a democracy in its purest form.
Just depends on what laws we want to govern us. And I want an enforced law to prevent illegal aliens from working here.
However, there are laws which just F@CK YOU UP! Example, the DBE program, where minority and women owned companies get preferential treatment as to what companies get awarded contracts.

spider I guess is referring to the theory of laisezz-faire free market system where nothing is regulated and only the market determines goods value, culture, prices, labor, and there is no borders at all. I agree you couldnt be for a system like this and still say you are agianst immigration.
Everyone knows that no country has ever had a system like this. This whole thread makes no sense and doesn't raise a viable issue as it pertains to our current situation in America.
America has an open market, demand market, but not a totally free market as decribed by George Whatley and Ben Franklin in the book Principles of Trade. He spider did you have to read that book in trucker school or did they let you skip that? Oh I forget you can only read traffic signs that tell you if your truck can fit under a bridge.

Q: How can you be for a free market and against Illegal Immigration.
A: Simple: Illegal immigration is still "illegal." But moreover, it's not a free market when you price your own citizens out of the work (ie. Minimum wage), and then import the work illegally to do it for cheaper than the minimum wage. Who gets helped and who get hurt here?

But just to play along with Spider, if the markets were truly free they
could hire anyone they wanted to. They wouldn't even have to wait

They could drive buses down to Mexico and bring back workers to

That's the point though isn't it spider. If you are self serving anything is justifiable. If you were "responsible" then you'd hire cheaper workers in mexico and bring it here into the US. Instead of violating citizenship laws, and importing illegal workers to undercut min wage to increase profits.

The best thing to research if you want to study total free market is read the book Principles of Trade. It's dated but if you are really interested in something the professor I admired most in my life always said start at the beginning.
Read the oldest work, to the newest theories and you will have gained much knowledge. Most of my friends are Liberals, I'm pretty middle of the road, have some real conservative friends also. The one thing they all have in common is the are well read and very smart. Many of the people who argue an here lack any research or reading to back up what they say.
I'm not sure how this topic came up but anyone who argued that any countries markets are totally free in the mold of laisezz-faire free market system were very wrong. That system has really only one rule for the govt, make sure country has strong defense, and make sure that their are no monopolies to thwart the trade.
I just don't see how it ties into illegal immigration because we all know that govt regulates the hell out of the economy. Even with all those regulations the market is still an open market that lets demand for the most part set a products worth.

Illegal immigration ? Shouldnt Employers be able to hire who they want when they want ?
if you are against Illegal immigration , you are socialist , big government , big brother support
You have to be the biggest idiot I have ever argued with. Your post was stupid and made no sense from the start. You can see by reading the responses most people felt the same way. STUPID POINT, STUPID ANALOGY, STUPID CONCLUSION. By they way I wouldn't even admit to anyone I know that I argue with someone as ignorant as you. By the way one of the principles of a free market is you don't allow a company to monopolize a sector of the market. Thats the one thing they are supposed to regulate.
I'm all for cheap mexican labor, we just have to document them. As far as I am concerned we could use them to truck all are goods because that is an easy job you don't need school for brother!!!!
you're stupid. Keep on truckin!!!
You can want a closed border and still be for a free market. Free Market is referring to the goods, what you are talking is referring to the workers. They aren't the same and you are really ignorant. Go back to college and get a degree if you want to be smart. Otherwise just stick to hauling my stuff around the country.
Free Market=how prices are determined for goods. It has nothing to do with immigration!!!!
And you are really smart, with all of your multiple degrees, not to mention humility?
I have met alot of freaking idiots with various degrees -- see Columbia U.

I think jail would be an option if we had enough space and money to house them all. Unfortunately, that isn't going to be a reality unless the government puts a fence around Wyoming and turns them all loose. :approve:
I wonder what the percentage of illegals that are in our prisons already?
I wish I could remember -- I get tired of having to do research before posting, but any here willing to bet against the notion that the percentage of illegals in prison is disportionately much higher than any other group? (except for the mentally ill or drug addicts, which crosses racial boundries.)

I know that part of the reason that Spider posted this thread was to score points for his club -- but attack the ideas. In this case, I think that Spider is trying to point out hypocrisy, that doesn’t exist with most conservatives (on this issue.)

Thats about what I was thinking as well ...
In terms of trade --what about the idea of putting up a mirior to countries -- and basicly say -- we will impliment what ever tax policy on your crap, that you levy on our stuff? Countries like Japan (I know when it comes to food) have been screwing us for years.

we all have a degree of hypocrisy , but a few years ago we had a fight about outsourcing , and Wal Mart , I am not a free market kinda guy , I am a pro Union guy , but my intent is , why would some medaling into the Market is bad cause it cost money , yet something else like Hiring Illegals it is ok for government to interfere even though it cost companies money ?
but I dont belong to a club , I am just a mean bastard proving a point from years ago ;D

we had a civil war over tariffs , but yeah we need to close the gap , I would be willing to cut Mexico some slack on tariffs providing they meet certain criteria
