View Full Version : We could seriously finish 10-5

Look at our schedule... Not a winning record the rest of the way:

@ Bears (4-6)
@ Raiders (2-8)
vs. Chiefs (4-6)
@ Texans (5-5)
@ Chargers (5-5) MNF
vs. Vikings (4-6)

We could make a run for the playoffs with some serious momentum behind us...

For my part, I'm not expecting Superbowl. I just want to get Jay and the young guys the experience of making it to the playoffs. Get them nice and hungry.

When do we get Javon Walker back? In a weird way, it may have been beneficial to lose him for a while since it forces other guys to step up. We just need to keep letting Cutler do his thing. If our offense is clicking with Cutler back there, we should be able to hang with anyone.

Wow, Im really glad I have tickets to this weekends game. I really hope they get it done. Every game at this point is our season. This fact to also might tighten up our play even more.

Still, I think Shanny could keep it respectable, 49-14 type of game! :D

This is the Pats year, no doubts.

The only question I have is who's the better NFC team? I think Dallas and Dallas was already destroyed by New England so maybe I'll pull for the Packers in the NFC to get destroyed by the Pats.

Youre probably right. But Shanahans acumen and Cutler give us a punchers chance. Plus we have a few pieces on defense that a lot of teams dont have. Its not that the Pats cant run but fortunately for us they dont because our two best players on defense are our DE, our S, and our CB. If we go on a winning streak that will mean that Cutler is progressing and will likely be even better than he was tonight. Im not saying hell unleash a world of pain on the Patriots but if theres one QB, who I think has the raw skills to do it, its that guy. It could be ugly like you said though too. But if the team continues to put it together as Ive just mentioned, the Broncos at the Pats is a game I would look forward to. For Broncos fans, it can not be one of our greatest moments without the risk of being one of our most crushing defeats.

What I wouldnt give for that moment...for Shanahan to deny Bradichick in what should be their biggest moment of triumph. What I wouldnt give to see the coach who is constantly questioned to stick it to the coach who is almost never questioned in a game where one team is playing for greatness and the other is playing for survival. Wouldnt that be the ultimate in awesomeness? It would be great if all the New England fans were to show up expecting to see our funeral but ended up seeing their own.

And youre right. The record speaks for itself. If theres one guy who can out 'X' and 'O' Belichick, its Shanahan.

We win the division with an 8-8 record.

We beat some wild card team.

We beat the 16-0 Patriots, a team we've defeated 24 times in 39 meetings all time.

We go to Indy and lose a shootout.

Colts go on the play the Packers in one of the most thrilling Super Bowls ever.

We select 21st in the 2008 Draft.

I'm stoked with the win but definitely not jumping ahead of ourselves. We have the benefit of the schedule vs. the Chargers.

We need to keep our nose to the grindstone, we need our defense to be scrapping for every inch, we need our special teams to play like they did tonight and we need to get healthy.

Chicago at home, definitely not a push over especially how our CB's and safeties are allowing WR's to get behind them. Rex Grossman has a lot of flaws but throwing the deep ball is not one of them.

Suddenly, this next week becomes very interesting. If we can get some players back... find out about the Travis Henry ruling... get Ian Gold to stop missing so many open field tackles... we might be able to round this ship out and take this division.

The Sparkies have an equally winnable schedule. On the Broncos' schedule, I would not count any of them as wins. Houston is not a pushover, and I would be looking for the Sparkies' game as a real test. I am not predicting anything except that the Broncos can control their own season.

The game in Sandy Eggo could be the one that really counts unless the Sparkies continue to self-destruct.........

Not really. They have to face at least two teams with winning records: Detroit and at Tennessee. Denver has zero.

4 of the final 6 are on the road and, except for Oakland, none of the remaining opponents are downright horrible.

The question in my mind is whether the Broncos are turning enough of a corner to become a substantially better-than-average team.

Pros: Cutler is making excellent progress and seems to be right on track. The offensive line is looking a little more cohesive. The receiving corps has surprised me and it could get even better if Walker makes a timely return. The defensive scheme introduced in the preseason is officially a bust, but the Broncos are starting to adapt the system to the talents of the players, and things have gone from pathetic to more or less average. The special teams are showing substantially improved coverage skills. There are a lot of young players on this squad, and if they stay healthy, we should see some improvement. We're also seeing some improved focus, attitude and leadership over the past couple of weeks.

Cons: This O-Line is not overpowering by any means. Our front 7 on the D is even worse. Other than Dumervil who's a bit of a freak, none of them would be starting on the majority of teams. Our RB situation is cloudy, with Henry's appeal still pending and questions about Young's durability. The offense still looks listless in the red zone. The defensive ineptitude among the front 7 up to this point has taken a physical toll on the secondary.

Things could be much worse, though.

If nothing else, the last 6 games should be exciting.

Unless SD runs the table, 10-6 should win the division for the Broncos. The only way it wouldn't would be if both teams end up 10-6, with SD sweeping the Broncos.

SD still has 3 or 4 really tough games on their schedule (at Tenn, KC and Detroit) along with the fact that none of their other games are gimmes with the way they are playing.

All that being said, I think that both teams end up 9-7 with the division winner being whichever team wins their next matchup in SD.

Based on the season thus far, you have to predict that we go 3-3 to close the season. I'd guess the losses are SD and Houston, and of course Shanny will have one week where the team is utterly flat and unprepared -- could happen any time. Thus 8-8, and no division. Anything above that -- 9-7, or a division -- would be huge, and a real testament to the players.

Why? They are .500 now, so they have to end the season that way? No accounting for winning the last two games, playing an extremely difficult schedule to this point and having an "easier" schedule the rest of the way?

Why? Because we are inconsistent, playing well one week and then horribly the next. That trend will get you to 5-5, as it has, and it likely will get us to 8-8. (Also, our defense sucks.) I'd love for them to finish 11-5, 10-6, or even 9-7, but that seems unlikely. As much as we love this team, it's a middling team. And middling teams finish near .500.

You said that the Broncos could finish 10-5? ;)

I said we could feasibly win 5 of the next 6, BMF then concluded we'd have to win out to finish 10-6, I cleared that one up for him.

With this team we could win out or loose 4 of 6. I have given up predictions of this crazy team.

That would be a run of historic proportions. I highly doubt it happens, but I'll sure as hell hope it does.

i dont make predictions, because its bad luck, but i could see san diego going 3-3 down the stretch, which of course would mean 4-2 for us would win the division outright.

....but its not a prediction. :~ohyah!:

also, one other thing.
my wife is clearly the broncos good luck charm.

when she has watched this season, we're 5-0.
when she hasnt, we're 0-5.

also, last night she fell asleep when it was 27-10. at 27-20 i woke her.
...and then we ripped off a 50+ yard run.

its just flat out weird at this point, but im making sure she keeps watching!!

Ya know Jake.....that wife thing is just stupid. It has NOTHING to do with it.

The true answer is because the Broncos are 5-0 when I am home next to my Broncos shrine and 0-5 when I travel.

I am going on lock-down for the rest of the season and won't even leave the house.

Man, you are a perpetual pessimist. Must have been faulty potty training......

My girlfriend is bad luck. Every time she left the room we made a huge play. Literally 3 seconds after she went to bed, Gold made the clinching pick.

Jake's wife is a brunette, and Inkana's gf is a blonde..... I bet......

Realist, actually. The last half decade of Shanny ball has conditioned me to expect to be disappointed. My off-season optimism (confirmable by a quick look at my off-season posts) has been crushed by yet another string of poor Shanny decisions. On coordinators (Bates, 'Dinger); on personnel (Rice, Adams, etc.); on preparation (Detroit, SD); on play calling. So yes, the team has had two nifty wins, which I attribute mostly to the players rallying themselves and becoming accountable. But let's not forget that was Shanny's awful decision making that got this team to 2-3, or even to .500. Celebrating two decent wins in what is as of yet another underwhelming season seems a bit...premature.

You are wasting your breath. You can't fix stupid. He is the definition of pessimist. Part of the retard bunch who are calling for Shanny the coach to be fired.

how come when we win it's the players, but when we lose, it's the coaches?

Denver starts 5-1/6-0 all the time, i don't see why they couldn't finish the season with a 5-6 wins...

You went ahead and called it! 1-2 so far. :notworthy
