Make's a lot of sense, and kudo's to BPC for bringing up his name (I didn't even know he was a FA) for a potential look this off-season.
Not even halfway done through the game against the Panthers and he has two sacks and two forced fumbles. Guy is taking double teams and mauling through them. GET HIM.
Man, he's driving up his own price.
A rumor from CNNSI just came out last week that he was the odd guy out with Jenkins, Picket, and Harrell all being there. Now though I can't see GB just letting him walk for free. If anything I see them dropping a transition tag on him.

I've been on the Corey Williams/Chris Cole bandwagon for our '08 DTs for a while now. I could see the Pack going hard after keeping Williams, but then they could also let him walk as he hasn't been starting and they did just draft Harrell. Cole should be let walk regardless.
I'm hoping we land both and put them into rotation with Thomas and a fat boy we draft out of this year's DT crop.

I'm hoping we land both and put them into rotation with Thomas and a fat boy we draft out of this year's DT crop.Draft Dre Moore and sign Williams and Cole as free agents. The Broncos rotation of Thomas,Williams,Cole and Moore would be solid for years to come.
I haven't seen much of Cole but I really like Corey Williams. The guy is a stud, a beast, a man child. He definitely plays with the power and pop that Bates needs on this defensive line. Plus, I think putting him in the center of this defense will release the inner-beast child in Marcus Thomas too. I would feel great having Marcus Thomas and Corey Williams as the starters in this defense for the next four or five years.
I still like the idea of picking up Isaac Sopoaga for depth purposes. The guy has worked the NT in SF's 3-4 defense so he is used to playing over the center, holding his man up and keeping his ground. Plus, he is strong as an ox.

While I think we should go in other directions if we sign Williams, a young lineup with Williams, Thomas, Moore, Crowder, Moss and Dumervil would be absolutely sick.
I'm all about making our defensive line dominant. If that means picking up more players during the draft, I'm all for it.
Great take, love the idea.

Cole has basically just been the beefy space eater for them, nothing outstanding, similar to what you'd expect form Sopoaga, but he's done it in Bates' exact system so its a plus and he should cost very little.
Versatile defensive lineman enters 2007 coming off what many consider his breakout season, when he settled into a starting role at defensive tackle and showed flashes of domination
Became a legitimate force as the team's best interior pass rusher, recording a career-high seven sacks to go along with a career-high 47 tackles
Played in all 16 games for the first time in his three-year career, and notched his first 11 starts
The most obvious sign of his progress and the respect he's earning around the league came when he was double-teamed at the point of attack on occasion, a strategy he may have to get used to and learn how to adjust to remain effective
How much better he can get is unknown but the coaching staff believes there's still plenty of untapped potential
Showed the ability to dominate by turning in a two-sack game and a three-sack game in the first half of 2006, attracting added attention the rest of the campaign
The two-sack effort, at Detroit (Sept. 24), earned him his first NFL start the following week, while the three-sack effort, at Buffalo (Nov. 5) was the first three-sack performance by a Packers defensive tackle
Capable of performing anywhere on the line, seems to have found a home on the interior though he can still play at end if warranted
Big and well-proportioned physically, is cat-quick and effective at squaring up to take down an offensive player
Has demonstrated a great work ethic in his tenure with the Packers and is proving to be a steal as a sixth-round draft choice in 2004
The highest-rated player on Green Bay's board at the time, he joined the Packers with a pick originally obtained from Dallas for WR Terry Glenn
That explosive athleticism and unique versatility to play nose tackle, 'three-technique' tackle and power end convinced the Packers to trade up to get the Arkansas State standout on the draft's second day
Was even tried at tight end in his first Green Bay mini-camp
The fifth Arkansas State player drafted by Green Bay, but the first from the school to play in a league game, saw plenty of early playing time as a 2004 rookie
Any trials he endures on the field will pale in comparison to the personal adversity he overcame prior to joining the Packers
Lost his father at age 15 and his mother five years later
Then, just before the 2004 NFL Scouting Combine, endured the death of his infant daughter, who lived only two weeks after her premature birth
Has since had another daughter and embraces fatherhood and everything the role brings in his life
Has played in 40 professional contests and made 105 tackles (63 solo), including 10 sacks, three passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery
2006 Season Back To Top
Played all 16 games, with 11 starts, during a breakout season

Also collected a career-best 47 tackles (31 solo), three passes defensed and one fumble recovery
Part of a talented rotation of interior linemen, was on the field for 582 plays from scrimmage

Against New Orleans (Sept. 17), batted down a Drew Brees pass in the second quarter
At Detroit (Sept. 24), tied his then-career high with two sacks (vs. New Orleans in 2005)
In the first quarter of Lions contest, beat C Dominic Raiola and sacked Jon Kitna from behind; later stuffed RB Kevin Jones for a 3-yard loss to start the fourth quarter and, on a fourth-and-2, fought through the line and took down Kitna again, this time for an 8-yard loss
The dominating performance earned him his first career start, at Philadelphia (Oct. 2)
Also started vs. St. Louis (Oct. 8) and at Miami (Oct. 22)
Against the Dolphins, deflected a Joey Harrington pass early in the game
At Buffalo (Nov. 5), posted a career-high three sacks - all in the first half - and became the first tackle in team history to author a hat trick; two of his sacks came on third down, forcing punts
Started at Minnesota (Nov. 12) and recovered a fumble forced by Brady Poppinga, setting up a TD; later, took down FB Tony Richardson for minus-3 yards
Against Detroit (Dec. 17), sacked Kitna on a long Lions third down in the fourth quarter, forcing a desperation throw on fourth down, which fell incomplete and gave the Packers a 17-9 win
Against Minnesota (Dec. 21), provided the initial pressure on a second-quarter sack by Aaron Kampman, who took down Tarvaris Jackson on third-and-10; on the Vikings' final drive, again provided pressure to set up a Kampman sack, the series ultimately ending with a turnover on downs
At Chicaco (Dec. 31), pressured Rex Grossman into incompletions on consecutive plays in the second quarter, leading to a punt; later, tipped a pass at the line of scrimmage that was intercepted by Patrick Dendy and returned for a 30-yard TD, giving Green Bay a 23-0 lead at halftime
Also sacked Brian Griese on third down

Made a season-high six tackles vs. Tampa Bay (Sept. 25), one for loss, plus one QB pressure
In the second quarter, fought off LG Dan Buenning and knocked RB Carnell Williams back for a 1-yard loss
Picked up both of his 2005 sacks and doubled his career total entering the game in 52-3 win vs. New Orleans (Oct. 9)

In the first quarter, sacked Aaron Brooks for a 2-yard loss
Later, in the third quarter, dropped Todd Bouman for a 5-yard loss

Returned vs. Detroit (Dec. 11) and had at least two tackles in each of the season's final four games
2004 Season Back To Top
Saw reserve duty in 12 regular-season games, along with NFC Wild Card playoff against Minnesota (Jan. 9)

Recorded a sack and a forced fumble among 24 total stops
Also contributed four special teams tackles, in addition to anchoring the wedge blocking unit on kickoff returns

In the second quarter, teamed with Mark Roman to plant Fred Taylor for no gain and force the Jaguars into a third-and-6 and eventual punt

Received a significant number of snaps in the defensive-line rotation against the Panthers with starting nose tackle Grady Jackson having departed due to injury after Carolina's third play
Forced a fumble by Titans RB Chris Brown among a career-best seven tackles in Monday night game with Tennessee (Oct. 11)
