View Full Version : Vince Young needs to grow up, according to local writer

I heard this on local (Nashville) sports radio yesterday.

Since I was watching the Broncos game and not the Titans, I didn't see this, but a caller into the radio show said that Young was really showing up his receivers during the game, yelling at them numerous times, went off on the coaches in his postgame presser, and worst of all, was heading into the locker room BEFORE the game was over.

The caller said that a bunch of fans and a bunch of players started yelling at him, "Get back out there on the sideline, you are supposed to be a leader."

One of the local writers said that this kind of behavior has been ongoing with Young.

Hope he fights all week with his teammates and coaches and they have problems on Monday. Hopefully they make up on Tuesday after a long flight home.

Young will find it difficult to be able to carry a team on his back like he did in college. He does need to grow up mentally or else he wont survive the NFL. But in his defense he really doesnt have much to work with. To me the Titans have overachieved the last couple of years.

Vince is too high a draft pick for anything to be his fault....

Young didn't do any of that. I was at the game and was watching his demeanor. If anything, he wasn't emotional enough.

VY is the least of our worries. keep him in the pocket and he'll hang himself eventually. it's the Titan defense that is gonna give Cutler fits.

And people that say Vince Young = Michael Vick have not watched him play.

I never heard about the prima donna stuff, but the guy is just a terrible passer.

Four TDs and ten picks on the season and he's averaging a Harringtonlike 5.79 yards per pass attempt.

Back before he was drafted I wouldn't spend a 3rd on him. Last year I was eating crow and even admitted I missed on that one. Well maybe I waas right after all. My observation of him was that he didn't have a strong arm, he didn't run a prostyle offense in college, he has really bad throwing mechanics, and that he was also not a very smart man. I looked at these and said I wouldn't spend a 3rd on him.

He has played thus far very poorly so unlike whar he did last year.

So someone says he needs to grow up. I hope we knock him back to 1st grade! The pressure I saw in the KC game is what we need here plus a spy on him if he runs. If he is throwing less than 6 yards per completion, there might be a lot of dumping and quick slants. Play up and spy him. Not sure if they air it out much but if not, time to get his coloring books ready.

Vick and Young are different players. Young isn't playing well right now, and while he has literally has no one to throw to, his defense and running game should be helping him out some. That said, Vick sucked in a different way than Young is right now so they aren't the same player. They don't have the same arm, the same size, the same stride length, the same passing style or the same demeanor. Saying Vick = Young reminds of the people who say every white receiver is Ed McCaffrey; It's lazy and a little racist.

As bad as Young has played he has a knack for winning. Some guys put good numbers up in a loss (Griese), and some guys put up terrible stats but the team wins. (VY)

I was mostly referring to people who generalize based on overly simplistic observations. It's more the innocent kind of racism where people don't necessarily have any ill-will toward a certain race but still make fallacious comparisons. Not channeling Gonzolays or anything...

That has more to do with him being able to play behind a solid offensive line, a consistent running game and one of the best defenses in the NFL. It's weird because Cutler had more weapons to help him succeed on a personal level, but Young has the better team, and that's what helps you win games. Cutler had a lot of receivers, a regularly successful running game, and one of the best offensive minds in the NFL. However he's had to pick up the slack of a injury-riddled offensive line, a defense that can't stop the run and what at first was one of the worst special teams units in America. With lower time of possession and piss poor starting field position, Cutler has had to do more than Young has.

Young actually has the better team so this "he wins games" thing is more reflective of the other 45 guys on the team and less a representation of his personal "game winning ability." You'd have a hard time selling me on what it is that Young has done to win games for his team this year that other guys like Damon Huard haven't done.

Not only that but Vince has only been in the league what? 2 Years? Vick had been in the league much longer and never really progressed the way he should have. If Vince goes another 2-3 years and not improving than you could make those claims. But right now is just too early.

Reminds me of that time when Leftwich was fielding questions in Jacksonville(America's City!) and a reporter asked him what he thought about being called one of the slowest QBs in the league... "I'm not slow for a QB, I'm just slow for a BLACK quarterback!"

I think that was when I started rooting for him a little. I have a bit of a love for busts, I must say. GO HARRINGTON!

VY is gonna have to learn how to control his emotions a little better if he wants to keep progressing as a NFL QB...like is said "not to high with a win" or " to low with a loss" or struggles for that matter...

I don't think anyone needs to compare Young to anybody to realize he sucks right now.

He does have some receiving targets in Moulds, Gage and two TEs that can be good pass catchers. With the way Defenses have been playing Young, you're almost guaranteed only one safety deep and he should have a lot of clear, open passing lanes with less defenders but he seems to be struggling with his decisions.

I'm sorry but Moulds was cut from the Texans because he couldn't make it as the number three guy and he's the starting receiver for the Titans. That pretty much sums them up. Gage sucks too. Bo Scaife is the only guy on their offense who gets open at all.

Yah, VY is no MV. Young has always had a better future than Vick because he's tall. Vick was always at a disadvantage in the pocket because at 6'0 he couldn't find a passing lane. Flutie=Vick.

Monday will be the first time I've seen much of Young this year. It will be fun to see the matchup of Cutler-Young. I think these two want to compete against each other.

Despite the awkward throwing motion I didn't expect Young to be this bad of a NFL passer. He really stinks at throwing the ball right now...could change as he is still very young but he has a long way to go.

As for the attitude baggage, I have been hearing that for about 6 months that he is a real pain in the arse and that his teammates aren't exactly falling in love with him.
