View Full Version : Denver Post "Around the league " Rod, Javon...
What is Rod's future?
It appears Broncos wide receiver Rod Smith has played his last down, but don't expect a fast announcement on his plans. Those who know Smith believe he will wait until the offseason to determine whether he'll try to come back in 2008 at the age of 38.
Smith is done for the season because of a February hip injury. His attempted comeback was cut short after three practices. Smith is far from being able to perform at the level he wants, but he is under contract through next season and could attempt to come back.
Around the league
If the Broncos continue to flounder, they could be looking at a top-10 draft pick. They likely will be looking for linebackers and safeties in the draft, but could go for a standout defensive lineman to add to their young nucleus. ...
Those close to Corey Dillon say the running back would return, but only to the Patriots. He is not interested in ending his retirement to play for any other club. ...
There has been speculation Broncos receiver Javon Walker needs microfracture surgery on his injured knee. Walker, who hopes to return Nov. 19 against Tennessee, might need the surgery in the offseason. If so, the Broncos are confident Walker will be ready for the 2008 season. ...
With the Panthers struggling to stay afloat, coach John Fox could be in trouble. If he does get the gate, expect him to have another job in the league by lunchtime. ...
While the Broncos have been ravaged by injuries, fellow AFC West teams are starting to hurt, too. Chiefs running back Larry Johnson is out with a foot problem, and Chargers defensive tackle Luis Castillo will miss about six weeks with an ankle injury....
The Broncos liked Michigan linebacker David Harris in the draft, but the Jets wound up taking him. Playing for the shelved Jonathan Vilma, Harris had 24 tackles last week. ...
Former Denver running back Tatum Bell has been buried in Detroit. He likely will not return as a free agent in the offseason. A potential landing spot for Bell is Houston. ...
San Diego defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell has seen better days. The Chargers' defense has fallen apart under Cottrell this season after flourishing under Wade Phillips.

what do u all think the chances are of drafting a stud RB if Henry is suspended for a year?
I know LB, S, and lineman are the biggest needs but i can't help but think Shannahan needs to get away from his desire to have a top defense and settle for a defense that limits scoring to a couple TD's a game and forces turnovers(basically what Coyer was doing) and get an offense that will throw points up like crazy. and that will all live and die with the RB position.

I too wanted the Broncos to draft Harris...they could have traded their 1st and moved back some gaining an extra pick doing so, but like they say hindsight is 20/20...we sure could of used a stud LB..
