I don't normally do this...but I found out tonight that my cousin's little girl who will be 9 (I think) is in the hospital. She has a hole in her heart and it was going to be a fairly routine operation to fix it...but they went in and found out a couple of the main veins were located on the opposite side than they were supposed to be on...now she is going to have to have open heart surgery with complications in Portland. What a thing for a little kid to go through...please keep her in your thoughts and prayers! Thank You! (BTW...her name is Angelina! Just a little blonde cutie!)

Angelina will definitely be included. That is a difficult thing for a child to go through but they are so resilient and medical procedures are so much more advanced. She'll come through with flying colors.

thanks everyone! It sounds like her doctor will consult...he specializes in closing the hole in the heart but won't do the open heart/with the veins being on the other side...but he does know someone in Portland (they are in Eugene)...I think it's going to be a consult with around 20 different doctors...any docs on board here that know anything about this type of complication?
P.S. They call her Angel...hoping that's a good "sign".

Sassy, I feel for the family, we had twins about 18 months ago and they went through hard times during pregnancy. One of them had to have heart surgery when they were two months old. This can be so trying and relentlous on the family. In the end everything worked out because of thoughts and prayers from everyone.
Our families thoughts and deepest prayers are with all.

I never know what to say on these prayer threads, so I seldom post on them. Not because I dont care, but because I never feel like anything I could say will make much difference. I feel a sense of helplessness. So I leave it up to god.
In this case though I felt compelled to post something because I have an ultimate weakness for children and especially those that are threatened.
But as I was reading the thread and the responses I couldn't help but feel that Angel has as good a chance as anyone of making a full recovery. Children have such an unbelieveable ability to heal over us grown ups. And while that is no guarantee that everything will go well, it certainly gives her the best possible chance.
Perhaps your prayers have already been answered in this happening when she is at her strongest. If I am reading correctly (I'm no doctor) the hole in her heart was a god send. A beacon for more comlpicated issues.
For Angel, though it's a tough break, it perhaps couldn't have come at a better time. I'll be pulling for her.

Thanks so much! I'm never quite sure what to say myself...and I'm usually pretty private about such stuff in my own life...but this breaks my heart. I've only actually met her once...but she's the sweetest little girl and she's had a tough life without her parents for the most part...I just felt compelled to post on her behalf.

That's just it...her mom and dad are out of the pic. She lives with her maternal Grandma and her other Grandma (my aunt) will be there with her.
Will keep you posted. So far no news is good news...My Aunt wasn't going to call us unless their were complications or something major happened. Not sure what time she went in this am but it's usually early? She's at the Children's hospital in Portland.
Thanks for your support and well wishes John.

UPDATE: My mom just freaked out...because her sister wasn't going to call her unless something was serious...but she called her anyway...Angelina is doing great! The doctor said the surgery went 100% perfect...he's been doing them for 20 years...doctors have been in and out of her room all day just amazed, I guess! She's in ICU...sitting up, talking with all kinds of tubes in her...but if she continues to do well, they will move her out tomorrow! Her Grandma is staying on a cot in her room with her.
Thanks guys for all the support/kind words...keep praying for her excellent recovery! Thanks so much!
