ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -- Detroit Lions quarterback Jon Kitna and his wife dressed up as a naked man and a fast-food drive-through attendant at a teammate's Halloween party, depicting an embarrassing moment for one of the team's assistant coaches.
Now Kitna is getting some flak on local TV and in a newspaper column. Kitna said he was just trying to have fun, but regrets the scrutiny the costumes created.
"If I would've known this, I wouldn't have done it because I didn't want to try to bring attention to it," Kitna said Wednesday while surrounded by reporters and television cameras.
Defensive line coach Joe Cullen pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and guilty to impaired driving after he was arrested twice last year, once in August 2006 after police said he was driving nude through a Wendy's drive-through lane, and a week later when they said he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Cullen later was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings twice a week.

"He's done everything they've asked of him," Lions coach Rod Marinelli said before this season started. "And, there's a lot more that he's had to do."
Marinelli said Kitna's costume was a non-issue with the team.
"It's Halloween," Marinelli said. "I'll leave it at that."
Cullen said "no comment" as he walked off the practice field Wednesday, but the team said it asked him if the costume bothered him.
"No, not at all," Cullen said in a statement released by the team. "It's in the past.
Kitna and his wife wore the costumes to a teammate's charity party Monday in suburban Detroit, where the prize for the best outfit was a car.
"All I was trying to do was wear a costume that people would have fun with," Kitna said. "I wasn't trying to demean Joe. If he hadn't come so far, I would not ever have done it. He's very confident of who he is and is very peaceful about what's happened in the past.
"When we talked yesterday, the first question out of his mouth was, `Did you win?' He seemed to not have a problem with it."
Defensive tackle Cory Redding backed that notion.
"He was still red this morning because Kitna didn't win," Redding said. "It was all fun and games."
Kitna, a born-again Christian who invites teammates to his house to explore their faith, also laughed at the costumes that poked fun at him and his wife.
"Somebody dressed up as me and my wife and came in Bible-thumping," Kitna said with a grin.

That's the offensive part, to me. My goddamned employer is a mega-million dollar media empire, and we get a friggin' DVD player or something.
Best costume equals a new ride?
I gotta get into these parties somehow.

have a great costume and u can. Crashing a halloween party is the easiest as no one will know who u are when you are in costume. I thought the costume in question was pretty clever. I never knew that dude was still a coach. If he had no problem with it, then who would make a story about it and really embarrass him? I want to know what costume beat that one?

I still can't believe the media really went after Kitna for wearing it. Like Rohm said on his show (paraphrasing) -- "If you have a problem with your quarterback dressing up like your drunk, naked defensive line coach, DON'T have a drunk, naked defensive line coach."

Dude, Kitna talks the talk of being a devout Christian and then intentionally chooses to re-open old wounds and ridicule a fellow coach without even checking with him to see if it was over the line? Kitna deserves every bit of derision he gets. That's low.
As for not having a drunk, naked d-lineman, I agree. But if your mother or father did something like that, would you show up at the family Halloween party mocking what they did? Bad form, Kitna.

Sounded like a interesting halloween party. Sounds like Cullen and Marinelli care less about it then anyone else. Media, there's no story here, Time to move on.

What up with Lions QBs and these costumes? Scott Mitchell took some heat a while back for dressing up like Wayne Fontes.

You'd prefer they dump them for trophy wives?
Geez, athletes are constantly getting criticized
for being self centered and egotistical and now
you criticize one for being with a women he loves
because she's not pretty enough for you?

Although I can't stand Colin Cowherd, he makes a good point when he says you don't want to marry nines and tens. You want to marry in the seven and eight range. Nines and tens have been told their entire lives how attractive they are, and they expect more due to their looks. Sevens and eights, while still attractive, have to get by more with personality than stunning good looks. Athletes like Kobe Bryant, O.J. Simpson, and Joe DiMaggio found this out the hard way...

I would generally agree with this, but there are always exceptions to the rule. Not many of them. But I'd rather find that exception than be with a woman that I just settled for because she looks good enough.

Actually, when it comes to being a star athlete, you are crazy to even get married at all. Get "snipped" while you are young.....have your fun with 9s and 10s until you are ready to have kids (if applicable)....then get "un-snipped", have your kids, but still avoid the marriage thing....then get "re-snipped" when you've had however many kids you want.

Even the best-looking girl will start looking average or even ugly to you after only a short while if the relationship is not good. The fact that lots of professional atheletes have merely OK or average looking wives does show that they aren't all shallow or self-obsessed.
That said, if i was an NFL player I'd be s****ing till my nuts fell off with every tart who came within a 10 metre radius, so I probably wouldn't have become aware of that yet.....

I didn't see this much media outrage about the screwball coach who rolled into Wendy's naked in the first place. That's where this all started...the pervy with the skin and fast food fetish.
About the trophy wife thing, that's funny...what one person considers hot another dosen't, and some of these trophy wifes aren't all that if you ask me. I think their names have glamor simply because they're public figures in entertainment or modeling. I've had friends describe guys to me as hot, but I look at them and go WTF??? Like the same dimwits who think Tony Romo is hot. Cripes, people have no taste. :clown:

Too many snippings and unsnippings in an area I thank God daily for.

yup....that's the only downside. You really have to take a week off of work and pretend every day is Sunday....just sitting on your ass and staring at the tv like a zombie.
