DENVER - The Green Bay Packers didn’t need any tricks to beat Denver Broncos cornerbacks Champ Bailey and Dre Bly.
On two big plays, Packers receivers ran deep and right past Bailey and Bly, who had pronounced themselves the most talented cornerback tandem in the NFL earlier this year. The Broncos have had trouble on run defense, special teams and scoring inside their opponents’ 20-yard line, but the cornerbacks weren’t supposed to cost them a game. Opponents hadn’t tested the Broncos cornerbacks much, especially avoiding Bailey.
But on Monday, Bailey gave up a 79-yard touchdown to Packers rookie James Jones. Bly allowed an 82-yard touchdown to Greg Jennings on the first play of overtime. Bailey said afterward that those two plays were the reason for the loss.
“We don’t give up too many balls like that,” Bly said. “Normally when the ball is up in the air like that, we make the plays.”
Bly has said often since he was acquired in an offseason trade with Detroit that he would give up a few plays. Bly figured he would make more big plays than he allowed, and until Monday he hadn’t given up any devastating touchdowns.
Monday’s final play was a heartbreaker for the Broncos. They had a dramatic drive in the final seconds of regulation to tie the score, then Jennings and quarterback Brett Favre suddenly ended the game.
“It happens,” Bly said. “I’m not going to hang my head down. I’m a playmaker. I make plays. I had honest coverage, and the guy made a play on a great throw.”
Jennings said the Broncos cornerbacks had been playing off until overtime started. Then Bly came out in bump-and-run coverage.
“When I saw the bump and run, I just beat him off the line and stayed vertical,” Jennings said.
Although Jennings’ touchdown will be replayed often, Jones’ touchdown was crucial, too. The Broncos were outplaying Green Bay in the first quarter and led 7-0 when the Packers quickly tied it by going deep against Bailey.
Bailey hasn’t been beaten that badly in a couple of seasons. Last year he finished second in the voting for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He was coming off a thigh injury Monday but said he wasn’t affected by it.
“It felt good,” Bailey said. “I feel confident about next week.”
Bailey and Bly will have to rebound quickly. The Broncos play Sunday against Detroit, which is seventh in the NFL in passing offense.
“It’s going to happen to everybody,” Bailey said about getting beat. “It’s how you come back from it.

EXACTLY!!! Love Dre's attitude. People think he's going to stop every single pass and intercept half of them. Unreasonable expectations!!! Dre understands this game and what it takes to be a good CB...SHORT TERM MEMORY!
Dre has emotion on his side this week. He's going to show the Lions they F'd up.
I just hope the front four can generate a pass rush.

Well personally I think they should both be cut, and we should bring in Bill Cower to play cornerback. But this has been my stance since the game against Greenbay, and I will be sticking to it until one of them gets another interception.

Bly has a way with words.....he just needs to deliver. And Champ has not been the same DB we saw a year ago. I think these two need to decide to play and leave the sound clips to someone else. If the Lions burn either one of them this week its gonna get ugly.

Did they cut Rice yet? What are they waiting for?

NO reason to cut rice since they have to keep paying the 3 million. Just inactivate him and let him sob.

It's tough to play DB when you have to cover for 6-8 seconds which is what happened all night, especially on obvious pass downs. You've got a guy who, while being a great playmaker, is also a turnover waiting to happen and you don't pressure him on third and long? You bring three guys?
Bly's attitude is the one a good DB needs to have. They both got burned. It happens to everyone, they don't suddenly suck. The safety help (or lack thereof) over the top does though.
I really wish Bly would just shut up and deliver..stop talking about what he is. To wit, he has given up as many plays as he has made. "Playmaker"...I guess that goes for the other team as well.

How do we define a big play? Do we have any numbers on how many big plays he has made vs given up? Cause I've tried to think back over the season, and try as I might, I just can't get the number of big plays he's given up to equal the big plays he has made. In fact, I'd say that he has made far more plays this year than he has given up but of course no one can remember them because they happened more than three days ago.
Also, if you'd like him to stop talking, you should probably give all the media outlets a call and tell them to stop asking him questions.

OK, lets go back to the Oakland game. Remember the INT he made as time was expiring? Earlier in the game, he bit on that double move and was burned by Porter for a TD. Blys INT and Porters TD were not a wash since Porters TD was a certain 7. When Bly made his INT there was such little time left Oakland was realistically hoping hoping for a FG at most. So in that game, Bly realistically prevented a FG but gave up a TD. So we would have been better off without him being a playmaker in that game. Same with the Green Bay game since he didnt really make any plays to justify giving up the big TD.

Thats really smart! So if your a DB and you give up a TD then you suck? C'mon, you gotta be kiddin me. This team would be 0-7 without Bly and Bailey. Our Dline is sucks, our LB is mediocre at best and our safety's play worse than our Dline. Bailey and Bly are on an island out there. You can't expect them to win everytime.

Youre an idiot. Dre Bly, the self-proclaimed playmaker, plays the risk reward game to the hilt so its perfectly justifiable to evaluate how much he has been burned vs how often he has come through. So far he is behind and therefore it would have been better off if he would play his man and not the QB. And "not winning everytime" is the ultimate in euphemisms. I dont expect him to win every time. No one really expects that from every corner. Its a question of when he does lose, how bad does it hurt.

The hell are you talking about. The D called for a bump and run coverage. Where was his help over the top?
He is a playmaker and he does get burned. So what, you rather we have Lenny Walls out there jumping up and down celebrating a play that would of been a TD if the receiver hadn't drop the ball.
If you don't agree with me, so be it. Don't be a jerk and call people idiot when they don't agree with you.

they do have some serious wr, but i don't know about their qb. those pases thrown by Farve were right on. i don't think Kitna can throw those passes.

Well, Kitna can throw b/c he has soo many weapons, so we need Dre and Champ to bring their A game for sure. Also, Rice will prolly be active again this week b/c i think that Crowder will be held out this week b/c of injury and Rice and moss will play instead

This is up there with BOB as far as reasoning and logic.
