View Full Version : "No more 12th man"- Broncos Security official

Before the game I was talking to Bobby aka Raiderssuck (those of you that go to the tailgates know him) and he was pissed off because the Broncos security took away his cowbell in the last game. Actually it was a "task force" that was deployed to Raiderssuck because he had a f***ing cowbell. When they approached Raiderssuck they asked for his cowbell and Raiddersuck replied that he would put it in his pocket and not use it for the rest of the game. Well the "task force" said no give us the cowbell or you are getting ejected. Raiderssuck had no choice so he gave them the cowbell. Aren't there other things the security team needs to focus on rather than who has a ****ing cowbell?
Anyway I chatted with him and he had to go to the Broncos security office to try and get his cowbell back. He comes back from the office and tells me that the reason why they took away the cowbell was because the rules state that it was an artificial noisemaker. However in the rule book or guide I guess they listed some things you are not allowed to use for an artificial noise maker and guess what? Cowbell is NOT listed as one of those noisemakers. Throw in the fact that Raiderssuck has been bringing a cowbell for awhile and nobody had a problem with it. In fact when the "task force" came for the cowbell, the section that Raiderssuck was in wanted the "task force" to leave and let the guy keep his Cowbell. So of course Raidersuck is upset and asked the security official at the office, "what happened to the 12th man?" Well to my surprise the security official said "There is no 12th man anymore". So I along with a few others have already written an email to a Broncos security official.:nono:

I bet no stadium allows cowbells. Aside from being artificial noisemakers, they are metal and dangerous if thrown or whatever.
Call me a killjoy, but that is the world we live in. Look at it the same way they only offer beer in cups or plastic bottles.

They have allowed it for awhile, got through the check point at the gate with no problems. All of a sudden it's not allowed because there is no 12th man anymore. If you think about it, I haven't seen that 12th man flag raised at mile high stadium since the season started.

I sat next to some douchebag Bronco fans that were so freaking drunk that when Jennings went to the sideline to talk to his family after the game he was hugging Ian Gold, the douchebag took off his jacket and threw it in their faces while screaming F--K you. Then walking away from the game tons of Bronco fans screaming out at Packer fans who most that I saw were not rubbing it in, they were simply leaving the stadium, of course I also saw a few who were trying to start stuff, whatever happend to being classy and not a sore loser?
I could see why they won't allow cowbells or other stuff nowadays, cause most of the folks in the crowd can't be considered trustworthy not to break the rules and act like asses.

Don't they want the team to have a homefield advantage at all? ???

Speaking of drunks, there was a time when the Patriots pleaded with the league not to have any home night games because the stadium is in a remote location and fans were getting too drunk and becoming dangerous to themselves and others just trying to leave the stadium.
It would not shock me if there were different sets of security rules for night games and day games because the fans have several more hours to get tanked before the game even starts. Therefore, security gets more hardass about anything that might start a problem.

I guess not, especially when the Broncos Stadium entertainment officials try to get the crowd revved up when the Broncos HAVE THE BALL!!! WTF!
I dunno, it's disappointing and I don't think the Broncos care.

I don't think so, I really think the Broncos Management has their collective heads up their ass and don't understand how to utilize home field advantage, much less the fans during a game. No cowbell but yet let's get the crowd riled up when WE have the ball. BRILLIANT!

Eh, I am all about a loud stadium at Arrowhead and staying on your feet and pushing that homefield advantage...but a cowbell just seems annoying and obnoxious. You can't be surprised they don't allow it.

Funny thing is, they showed a shot of the crowd and there was some dude front and center ringing a cowbell for all he was worth. There were quite a few times the nat sound mics picked up cowbells.
So which is it? Cowbells or no cowbells Invesco rent-a-cops?

I called today and there was never a report done on when the "Task Force" took away my cowbell. I'll make another one and bring it in again next game!!!
I really missed it last night when I was sitting next to Packer fans yelling thier heads off. I have walked in ringing the damm thing all these years, and now it's an ejection rule if you even have one!!! I guess it true as what Assistant Security Manager Terrill L Huston told me that there is NO MORE 12th Man at Invesco Field. Pretty soon we will not be able to YELL !!!!

We've already been at that stage. Being at the past few Broncos games, I was fortunate enough to sit in the lower end zones (North and South) and it was almost impossible for me to really yell at full volume because the crowd around me was very tentative.
Bless guys like AK1971 & TailgateNut for cheering their heads off when it mattered. They are the last of the hardcore fans down there in the lower bowls.

I think this is the thing that makes me the most mad about how things have gotten. I am young and don't really remember the old mile high that well, but when I think of a football stadium I think think of a place where you are smart about yelling. Last time I went I was told to sit down and when we were on defense I think I was one of only about 10 people in my section yelling and stomping my feet. I was getting pissed.

No complaint I've heard outweighs the outrage imposed on Meck77.
He was harrassed and even arrested for contrived reasons while staging his tailgaters on the stadium parking lots & finally run off only to buy a near-by property where some folks here have attended some get-togethers.
Now, apparently the city wants to take away his property for a right-of-way, eminent domain project that could be years down the road.
Perhaps the most loyal dedicated fan this team has ever had has been beaten down and told...in so many gestures...to go away.
I can't get enough of the Broncos, but frankly, I cannot get far enough away from the current admin & security stooges.
This is definately not your granddaddys Bronco organization.

If you want to be the 12th man, then be the 12th man. Cowbells aren't standard equipment on human beings..voices and hands are. Use them. Arrowhead is loud because we yell until our voices crack and slam our hands against our seats until they are numb and swollen.

If you want to pinpoint when the moment that the Broncos turned against their best fans, it could be argued when they packed up camp and left Greeley forever; the moment they tore down Mile High; or when they decided to kill off tailgating and split up friends who had been lifelong ticketholders next to each other for a generation.
This organization caters to the high end fan first. Never forget that. Sad as it is.

he also let way too many Packers fans park in Mecks lot. Then leaves me to fend all of them except me and two other Broncos fans. Lots of Packers fans but Broncos fans were into the game. Only problem is people sitting the whole game and trying to look between people. I am not sure what these people are waiting for when it is 3rd and long while on defense. I sat in a different part of the south stands and wasnt happy there either compared to what our fans used to be. Stomping your feet and yelling is what needs to be done when disrupting the opponent. If you are "Too cool for school", then please go up to Club level so you can talk stocks and admiring each others polo shirts.

If you had to sit next to some knucklehead with a stupid cowbell an entire game, put up with the noise as he or she gets drunker and drunker, then you would probably see this as a bit more than security out of hand. What if it was an opponants fan bringing in cowbells and behaving that way?
If you cant have a glass bottle, why would u think a metal cowbell is safe?
This is total bull****. Next thing you know, they'll be playing frickin' Enya after touchdowns.

I was raised in the south stands so I learned everything the RIGHT way. I always dump a bear on a opposing fan, I scream and stand on every defensive possession, High five everyone in the concourse on the way to my seat, and boo children wearing the opposing teams jersey.
My first game was vs Pitt in 1984, we were beat by Mark Malone, and I remember the steeler fans had to stay in the stands and the police walked them out, those were the gold ol days before all the upper middle class took over the stadium. This story brought a tear to my eye!

There was a game a few years ago where I brought in a big metal blue pot. I was behind the Broncos bench banging it. Pat Bowlens brother looked over at me and laughed as I had it on my head at the time. I guess that doesn't qualify as a noise maker?
Pacino when did you become a freakin wine and cheese fan dude? I've never seen anyone use a cowbell for anything other than making noise. Had one been used as a weapon over the last few years we all wouldn't have been running around the stadium with them. Hell Disco has had them in the front row of the south stands for years. You mean to tell me that security never saw him with one?
So the Broncos say there is no more 12th man eh? I guess that explains the missing flag. Unbelievable...

Monday I watched the Lot attendant allow a Packer bus/rv jump in line in front of a bunch of people who were entering lot C for the first come first serve parking spots.
I just don't understand the mentality of this organization anymore. Not only did we support them for 4-1/2 decades, we finance a stadium for PatCo, we put up with a BS relocation process, we've watched the slow but successful elimination of a good tailgating/ parking system to the joke we have today, and this year we have the "snitch on your neighbor" tel. # , drink your damn beer out of a can (I HATE CAN BEER) and we can't make any noise anymore.

I agree Mock. It's a symbol of the Mile High Mania and a tradition that goes back many decades with Denver's cow town roots. If you watch any old Broncos game from decades ago you can always here them in the background clanking around. I guess now that clank will be replaced by the chatter of Coors light commercials or State Farm Insurance ads.

Was it the Packers fans making all the noise last week, or was it our fans when we had the ball?
Reading all this is really infuriating especially that they took down the flag and security power tripping over our fans. I've only been to 1 game but remember very clearly what the Mile High used to be on TV.

Was it the Packers fans making all the noise last week, or was it our fans when we had the ball?
Reading all this is really infuriating especially that they took down the flag and security power tripping over our fans. I've only been to 1 game but remember very clearly what the Mile High used to be on TV.
Someone mentioned to email this thread to Jim saccomano. Won't he need an account to read it?
There has to be someone in the front office who cares.

.
It was both. The PA announcer started pumping music through the stadium right when the Broncos were going to huddle. The crowd gets louder. The Bronco players tried to shush the crowd by waving their arms. When the packer's players see what's going on, they start waving their arms signaling the crowd to get loud. Then you had the home people cheering who had no clue (thanks to the PA announcer) and the visiting Packers fans getting loud for their defense.

As for the rest, I have respect for Hatman Jay, Barrelman and all the old schoolers because they at least try their best to keep the wine and cheese crowds going.
Tell ya what BMF, I miss the old school South standers man. After sitting there a few times in past games at old Mile High, I'm pretty sure I'm deaf because of the incredible noise!

Or the stupid weather reports that has no place in the middle of a game.

I have mentioned before about my experience with the egomaniac. He has pushed me out of the way in the North Stands when standing in the aisle where the field goal is landing so he can get his umbrella and himself on tv. The worst was in Miami/Fort Lauderdale after the Super Bowl game versus Atlanta, many of us fans had a fan party to celebrate. Another fan next to me asked him what his favorite moment was of the game. I would guess Elway winning the MVP or even the Broncos winning back to back Super Bowls. His answer was, "Looking up at the big screen and seeing myself up there." I dont think great fans like Jay and Tim think much of him.

What a load of crap. Your egomaniac idiot pal Meck got himself arrested for drunkenly chucking a full beer can at some parking lot attendant who refused to bow down and kiss Meck's spoiled, little punk ass.
If you have so much contempt for the people who run the team, there are 31 other NFL clubs out there you can cheer for every Sunday, Wabbit. I realize Meck's predicament is slightly different. He pissed away all of Daddy's money plastering Bronco memorablia all over that stupid Winnebago.
I think it's hilarious the very team that provides him his ridiculous identity hates his guts. I hope he keeps talking trash until they ban him from the stadium as well as the parking lot.

Slap you weren't there but I have to tell you I would do it all over again. In fact I'm proud to say I took a stand against all the BS rule changes and BS moves security was pulling week in week out over the years. The reason I was arrested was because I called them out for breaking one of their own rules. SPEEDING IN A PARKING LOT.
I have many witnesses from this website that were. In fact the charges were dismissed in court. After my name was cleared in court I did receive an apology as to the way things went down from the top guy in security/parking.
There is a reason I bought parking lot MH. The reason was I knew the season before that Security was going to find a way to remove the OF1/Omane party from LOT CRV. There have been plenty of other omaners/Broncos fans pushed around LOT C. This time it was me.
I'll elaborate on the continuation of this story soon but there is a good chance we won't even be able to tailgate in LOT MH anymore if the forces that be have their way. I'm going to need some help from my fellow Broncos fans real soon.
Slap the Broncos marketing loves us. Security and parking well that is another story. There are many branches of the Broncos admin you simply don't understand. I've been fighting pretty hard to keep the tailgating tradition going at MH. Hell I spent several years on the road just uniting some Broncos fans. If that makes me a bad guy and a ****ing a-hole like you say Slap then "I am whatever you say I am".
I know many of the administrators personally as they have asked me to participate in Bronco related events. Slap you forget you told me how jealous you were of all the fun we are having. Like I said to you via pm..You were always welcome...
Anyway Slap I just attended my best friends funeral and am out of town. I have better things to do and fight for than get in a pissing match with someone who has never met me.

Ok I just realized Wabbit told the story about the eminent domain case.
Bottom line is on Sept 24th I was sent a letter by RTD (rapid transit district) that they are condemning our tailgating lot MH. RTD is the branch of government that is building the light rail lines all over Denver.
Long story short they only need about 12 feet of the the corner of my property for what appears to be a sidewalk. I've had to retain some lawyers just to try and keep the building.
It's a very unique location as many of you know that have been there. If the United States government and the forces that be have their way we won't be tailgating there anymore. I don't have all the answers yet but I'm going to need all the support I can from my fellow Broncos fans to help save this spot.
My long terms plans was to build an old school Broncos bar on that corner. I've expressed that to many of you over the last couple years.
All the plans are in serious jeopardy now. The kicker is as of 2005 the government can not only take your land they can resell it to a private entity. This is happening all over the country now. What's really interesting is the City of Denver owns land right across the street from my property and they could easily donate 6 feet of land and I could do the same. This way they sidewalk could be widened like RTD wants and I could keep my building/tailgating lot. We tried to negotiate with them but they dont' want any part of that. I've stayed out of the media spotlight since this news broke but you'll see some info in the Rocky Mountain news and on your local news stations real soon.
I can promise you all this. I'm not going out without a fight.
I'll have a website set up real soon with all the latest info if anyone wants to help out or make a statement.

FasTracks land rush
Acquisitions along West Corridor need not be contentious
STORY TOOLS
Email this story | Print
October 4, 2007
The hackles have started to rise.
Last week and this, 16 property owners along the FasTracks West Corridor began receiving notices that the Regional Transportation District intends to acquire their land.
RTD must acquire property for the 12-mile light-rail line that will run from downtown Denver to the Jefferson County government center in Golden. The district also wants land for parking structures and equipment storage.
Spokesman Scott Reed assures us that these notices are preliminary contacts with the property owners. The district would rather deal with willing sellers than be forced to condemn property, he insists, and we hope that's the course RTD takes.
Even so, as the Rocky reported on Saturday, the mailings have predictably left some property owners along the 13th Avenue pathway of the trains a little hot under the collar.
"If they think they're going to come in here and do an old-fashioned claim jump, they have another thing coming," said Galen Foster, owner of Pro-Tint window tinting at Wadsworth Boulevard and 14th Avenue. Foster said he'd rather work with RTD to redevelop the property, but he's vowed a lengthy legal battle if push comes to shove.
"They call it FasTracks? We'll turn it into slow tracks," Foster said.
And another property owner, Gordon McKeeta, summed up our feelings pretty well when he said, "I dislike this situation where RTD can do whatever it wants."
In Foster's case, he's particularly upset that he'll be forced to vacate his land - along with his home, which is attached to his business - not because the property is needed as the site of a proposed 1,000-car parking garage there, but because it would serve as a staging and storage area for the construction of the structure.
Foster has suggested RTD instead consider using a large vacant parcel owned by the Lakewood Housing Authority across 14th Avenue from the development.
"It just doesn't work," Reed responds. "We're talking about huge materials here. It would just be too disruptive to the community."
On the other hand, says Reed, RTD is "more than willing to sit down with anyone along the corridor to discuss suggestions and explain the process."
With about 114 more Notices of Intent pending, RTD could have a lot of explaining to do.
While the district does have the right to condemn property, we hope it can avoid that contentious process whenever possible.
RTD should make every effort to accommodate and mollify property owners along the West Corridor.
"No one has gotten to the point of condemnation," Reed advises. We're glad to hear it. Let's hope it doesn't get to that point.

Meck's (Steve) unselfishness of inviting a wandering broncos fan to his tailgate with no questions asked is nothing but greatness on him. He is responsible for members at Omane than anyone else outside of TJ having the site on google. His promotion to the site at no pay is to be commended. Maybe your tailgates arent as fun but if you think all those tailgates in the tailgate forum doesnt look entertaining to you, then stay away. we have a couple guys in our section (538) with cowbells every game.
never seen 'em get a hard time about it either, and they ring 'em from start to finish.
heck, the one guys NICKNAME is in fact "cowbell".
disturbing news, but i do NOT believe we've lost the crowd.
we're beaten back a bit, but at times, we bring it as loud or louder than ever before.
the sea of orange with the pom poms is a sight to behold, and while the chargers game was a big blow that caused many (fairweather fans) to sell their seats (to opposing fans or brokers) to the steelers and/or packers games, it just made the REST of us even MORE intent on supporting our team, and doing it with enthusiasm.
at the start of the pitt game, i told my wife (my sis was home sick) that i'd never seen that many opposing fans in the 7 years we'd had our seats. it literally made me sick to my stomach.
that said, once the game got going, those of us in orange were loud and on our feet.
by the end, the presence of the steeler fans was almost nil, and its hard to drown out those obnoxious trolls.
no, we still create the thunder, and mile high magic lives.

fellas Slap is going to be slap. Nothing new there. The real issue is that RTD is condemning our tailgating spot for 12 feet of sidewalk and there is 5 acres of Denver land across the street they could use instead!
I'm going to start another thread as this one is losing focus. I've hosted plenty of you over the years and I'm going to need all the support I can get to bring some awareness to this situation. I've never asked much from anyone here other than to bring some brats, some beer, or maybe clean up some trash but this is different. I'm going to need people to do some emailing, protesting and the like. Much of this can be done online.
The government is taking land all across the country and reselling it to the walmarts of the world. It's crazy.
This is my problem now but any of you could be next. Those of you that know me know me. Some random fool on the internet is irrelevant to this situation.

The people who believe I've never seen Meck's act are mistaken. The first time I ever laid eyes on him, he was giving an usher all kinds of grief at a Raiders game. Apparently, picking on the little people, who are only doing their jobs, is the way he conducts himself all the time. The Broncos love him to pieces, but they revoked his season tickets and kicked him off the premises. You know, I must be missing something in the translation here. Tell you what, when Bowlen apologizes, I'll consider apologizing.
Hey Blue, when I was trying to offer support to a member of the board who was gravely ill, you must not have noticed Meck's skeevy, little Pearl Harbor job on me.

Slap has been infatuated with me for years for some reason. I have no idea why. I'm mourning the loss of my best friend of 20 years and much bigger issues to deal with than some random dude on the internet.
Like I said I'll have a website up soon regarding my eminent domain case. If you want to help out do so there and not on this thread as it's obviously in the butt now.
I'm really not up for another childish Slap type soap opera at this time folks. There is real life and then there is slaps world.

Geez Slap...no compassion or what? Meck loses his best friend and all you can do is rag on him for something that's in the past. You weren't even there! ... and I'm pretty sure you don't know the entire story. Meck is a good friend to a lot of us here at the Mane and he doesn't deserve the crap he's getting (He has a right to stick up for what he believes in!) ...lighten up why don't you. We're all Bronco fans here and most of us have developed some pretty great friendships along the way...If it wasn't for this board and Meck...those friendships would never have happened...and our love of the Broncos added in even makes them all the more fun!
P.S. Posting pics and bring up that crap...well, that's something even a two year old wouldn't do. Get over yourself and grow up!

I didn't think I was a wine and cheese fan, but if your definition of a good fan is someone who is so drunk/stoned that he swears and insults someone in front of his family, insults elderly people and then begins throwing things in their faces (last time i checked thats assualt "throwing missles") including a member of the team that he is there to support then later on tries to fight anyone that is wearing the winning teams jersey is a fan than I guess I am a wine and cheeser.
Tell me Steve and be honest, what would you have done if someone walked up to you while you were sitting next to your father and Jess then they started calling you a Fu#$king loser, calling your family much worse then started throwing things at you, for no other reason than they were wearing a different colored shirt than you? I'm betting your lawyers' would get involved and we would be reading many rants about it right here on the Mane.
I'm all for cheering, getting loud and the 12th man. I'm not against cowbells, but I can understand why they won't allow them, if some fans are so dumb as to throw things in the faces of our own players what's holding them back from throwing a cowbell? Can you insure the personal safety and liability of everyone in the stands so you can bring a cowbell?
Sure fights in the South Stands are something that is looked upon with tradition, and is bound to happen when booze is mixed with the emotions of the game, you can't eliminate that, but when the fans turn on the players rather than themselves that crosses the line. A ticket to a game is not a license to act like a a$$hole.
I always thought wine and cheesers were people who thought they deserved special privlige because their checkbooks were bigger than most people, and like to spout out things like "I built this place."
Meck77

Ok glad you took offense to the wine and cheese crowd smak. ;D
I just see differently on the cow bell issue though. I see them as a sign of our tradition/12th man and it seems that we are headed in direction to where both are being pushed right out the door. It's not so much the cowbell as what it symbolizes. Couple that with the fact RS was told "There is no more 12th man" I'd say the message is clear as to what they want the stadium to become.
BTW..Where has the 12th man alert been this season? Have you heard it?
There are plenty of opinions on how the team should be run right? Just read the front page of the mane. At the same time there are thousands of opinions on how a tailgate should be run, there are equally as many opinions of how security or parking should operate or how marketing should handle their business.
We are all entitled to our opinions but I've choosen to be proactive to try and make things happen the way I see fit and even express the opinions of other tailgaters I've met over the years. I've met most of them. IE. OF1, the tailgating, my meetings/phone calls/emails with the various depts of the Broncos etc. Heck over the years security has called me direct to ask me my opinion about various tailgate groups from other towns that are coming and what to expect from them if they could be trouble etc. For that matter of done my fare share of negotiating with security on the behalf of mutual friends of ours who've gotten into situations as well. I've hosted tailgate parties with 100 or more people. Not uncommon for something to happen with a group that large.
The bottom line like AK said it's about Entertainment and I'll even add in fun.
The fun part is the part I'm concerned about. (Text message to section 101...We have a dude in an Afro banging on a wall with his hand disturbing Mr. Jones...Go get him boys) You get my drift pacino. It's not about a cow bell. Oh and as far as your scenario about someone throwing **** at me. I'd probably call them a mother ****er back and might even toss the shiat right back at their sorry asses.
Look dude we all found the mane in various ways and enjoy it in different ways like we do our game day experience. I could be mistaken but I think Disco and I got you in here. We've drug a lot of Broncos fans here. It's gotten big! Real big and it's been a blast.
I suppose the flipside of all the traveling, tailgating, going to games, spreading the word about the Mane would have been to stay home and push keys onto a computer screen. Not my idea of fun though (see pics on my site).

I did send you a one sentence rep on this thread in reply to your comments in post #131. Feel free to post that sentence on the board for everybody to read if that makes you feel better.
By the way, the Broncos gave your friend a much needed wake up call, but he would rather paint himself as a victim. You're not doing him any favors by indulging his self pity. Of course, Anthony Pacino's well reasoned post on this thread was dismissed without regard, so I understand the reluctance to attempt any type of meaningful intervention.
I notice you didn't criticize your friend when he made unprovoked attacks against me on the Get Well Mock thread or on numerous threads while I was serving a banning.
Loyalty, even misguided loyalty, motivates people to do uncharacteristic things, so I forgive your insults. Hell, Blue Flame was willing to pervert her duties as a moderator out of loyalty, and Taco looked the other way out of loyalty. Well at the pace things are going the government or whoever is after my parking lot where we tailgate will have probably have won and there won't be an omane tailgate party to go to anyway.
Americans know about eminent domain but they have no idea how much it is being abused. There are stretches of the West Corridor Light rail where they are taking 1/2 mile wide stretches of land. I hear up to 1,900 families are losing their homes.
The 12th man is indeed in danger..... I'm only one voice and I'm screaming my head off trying to defend my land but I don't think my opinion is enough to save it. Meanwhile the machine rolls on.
In the end nobody will ever say ole Meck didn't try to preserve the spirit of the 12th man. I thought organizing some tailgates would help...I thought building a bus would help...I thought buying a parking lot to have more room for our big tailgates would help.....
Ironically enough I called my parking lot MH for Mile High. I thought that would be a place where we could preserve some spirit we brought with us from the old stadium.
They tore down Mile High....My version of it is going to be next unless we can stop them.
Yes I was jailed by invesco security for taking a stand against them. I would have been convicted if the charges were true but they were dropped. Just like before I will make a stand to defend what I believe is to be right and I believe we Americans have the right to own property and should not have to fear it being taken away by the government for private development and that is what is happening to our tailgate lot.
In the end though we all make choices in life and I have made mine and stand by all of then. I could just have easily done nothing over the last 5 years but that just isn't my style.
My fight rolls on... There are thousands of families in the path of the light rail in Denver that have no idea that there land is going to land in the hands of private developers in the name of "Progress" for the light rail. Someone has to take a stand and it's going to be me.
