What's the explanation for that WTF fumble on the goal line? From the replay it looked like the LG intentionally batted the ball out of Cutler's hands.

Anyone got an explanation for what was supposed to be happening?

We're a bad team right now. Stupid inexplicable things happen when you're a bad team.

Looks like he just swatted it trying to defend

Kuper was pulling as if it were a stretch play, Cutler was moving like it was a draw or a pass play or something. Simple misunderstanding that mindlessly had the worst possible outcome.

Just a young, inexperienced guy trying his hardest to get into position. Otherwise, Kuper can hold his own on the line. It was a freak mistake, but **** happens.

I just wish we could have fallen on the ball instead of GB.

**** happens... There will be plenty of idiots around here trying to pin the blame on one or the other. Unfortunately when you are struggling the unexplainable seems to happen frequently

Ahh.. pretty sad, but at least we got to watch a total WTF failure on GB's O too -- that play where Favre tried to hand the ball off to thin air.

Very simple explanation... it was an honest mistake nothing more than that.

Hmm. I should probably clarify that i don't for a second really think it was intentional, only that it looked like it and it wasn't immediately obvious what was going on that would make it appear that way. The explanation of a stretch vs a draw makes sense though.

Kuper got paid to keep the score low.

I kid, I kid.

On a related note, why don't we use the shotgun more often, especially in the red zone?

Poor playcalling happened. How about we don't have the guard pulling on the one-yard line???

Freak thing having an olineman knock the ball out of the QB's hands, not really the fault of either.

The hole closes fast and if you have any penetration, you're looking at a tackle in the backfield.

Linemen have to swing their arm, open up their hips, pivot and run while maintaining leverage running down the LOS for the first opposite colored jersey.

Jay Cutler pulled the ball out and needed to step back from the center's butt, handing it to the HB... he kind of lingered, even a .25 second too long and the lineman pulling across hit him in the hand.

This is the QB's bust. He needs to get his ass out of route of the lineman.

Sometimes you need to see it once in the game. I doubt Cutler will ever make this mistake again. Hopefully.

Kupesdad:
Good breakdown of what happened. In slow motion it looked like Chris slapped the ball out of Cutler's hand in actuality Chris didn't even realize that he had any contact with Jay. By knowing the play that was actually called it makes even more sense that Jay lingered because it was a "read" type play and when you are on the 1 yard line the read has to be made much quicker than one that is at the 5 yard line. I'm not blaming Jay because they are asking a lot of a 2nd year starter. In fact If it were me I would give him something that is a lot simpler and a poor result less impact on the game. But then a fumble is a fumble

This is posted already...but relates here as well...

Some people need to ew watch the repay of what happened... Cutler gets the ball and a split second later Kupers hand bats it away.

This play wasn't anyones fault... just a great example of **** happens

It was a horrible mistake that turned the whole game. I would say if we get that TD, probably a 75% chance we win that game. As if the fumble were not bad enough, they march 99 yards and chew up like 8 minutes and get a FG, talk about ripping your heart out and stomping on it.

Yup. Young teams endure more of that than veterans. The good news is they'll get better.

IMO, the only thing worse than failure is having a really retarded typo in your thread title.

Really? What play was it?

See with the fumble and everyone diving on the ball i had a hard time diagnosing it.

Does it matter what the actual play was? I'm faulting Shanahan for calling a guard to pull at the 1 yard line.

Ohhhh, very impressive Mr. Internet Tough Guy! So you're saying that Shanahan's play calling has been good this year?

If you think anything i said resembled an "internet tough guy" routine you need to develop a thicker skin. God help you when you run into Alec...

Teams pull line man all the time at the goal line... The power sweepand Gibbs Counter-Trey all involve pulling lineman... even at the goal line. Blaming the coach for a fumble because you feel a guard should never pull under those circumstances is ridiculous.

I'll just point out that Shanahan has been routinely criticized for his play calling recently (ever since Kubes left anyways) and especially in the red zone. As for the "Mr. ITG", I'm just messing with ya LOL

Our redzone offense sucked last year with Kubes.
