I love the fight they got in them since the SD game. They are young - and they dont seem to give in.

It was such an interesting stat when they showed that we only have 1 starter from game 7 last year - Pears. I think we need to accept, that no matter what shanny professes - this is a rebuilding year.

We did lose last night, but we pushed a 6 -1 team to OT. Last week we beat a division leader - not bad for a rebuilding year.

Cutler, Sheff, Marshall, Young, Hall - I Love them all - many fun years to come!

Now que the complaining.

Though more should. If the offense actually managed to put up more than 10-15 pts a game, they'd win a whole lot more. For as miserable as the defense has looked, they've actually managed to keep the scoring down (with the obvious exception of the SD game).

go broncos - i agree, i think we are a far from a complete team - thats why I think this is a rebuilding year. lynch looks done, and our LB group is a joke. Rice was a waste of time - we need to spend some money on the Line. Man, would Berry or any of the whole other slew of good dl players we let go be nice to have now?

I want to just move dj back to weak side and find 2 new lbs - these are done.

Building the team on offense and forgetting the most important part(D-line and LB's).

Until, shanny realizes it..we will never compete with SD,NE and Indy and even KC.

i thought this year shanny started to understand this year - but the gambler in him still wants to try to take a chance on players that probably do not pan out - see our dl from the last 4 years.

I would love to see us draft, develop, and keep talent along the DL. why is it everytime we get someone even decent through the draft, they end up in baltimore, arizona, etc?

and god, please, can we find a MLB. I dont think dj is as horrible as original reported, but he is so much better at weak side.

With the amount of injuries we've had to endure and the amount of new players and coaches on this team I'd say we are about where we should be. A couple plays here and there and we'd all be a real happy bunch this morning.

Cutler needs to step and be the man. Plain and simple. Pissing out a touchdown or two per game isn't going to win us many games with this defense. Same story like last year. No need to over analyze it folks.

I'm pretty please with the team too. Yes the whole team. Do I hate losing? Yes, but this whole team is making strides as the season progresses, whiche is amazing considering how inexperienced this team is. Most of the players that finished the game last night have less than 1 or 2 seasons of experience. This team will be good if not damn good. I'm pretty excited.

"Building the team on offense and forgetting the most important part(D-line and LB's)."

Wrong. He needed a QB with higher upside and young position players to grow with. Enter Cutler, Marshall, Sheffler, Young. New MLB and SS are next on the list. Takes longer to gel a consistently and reliably good O than a stout D

I completly agree. We're not nearly as bad as I thought a few weeks ago. I would blame the offense much more than the defense for last night's lose. If we had punched the ball in when we should have we win.

I love the fact that Cutler can still make some plays with almost nobody around him. The whole offense is a miz match of nobody rookies and young guys. I think we still win some games this year.

Spot on. The offense has averaged 12 pts per game in their losses (only 17 overall). These are the kinds of numbers we were putting up last season with Plummer under center, and you simply can't win in the NFL if you are scoring in the teens every week....unless you have some ridiculous defense backing you up.

This I agree with. Lets let these guys loose and go big. I don't belive with the talent we have and the plays we are making that we shouldn't be scoring 24 - 30 pts a game.

Is this dingers fault? we are so conservative - like we a protecting our record or something.

At least partly....hopefully this will start to change as the coaches finally realize that even though they are not mathematically eliminated yet, they really do have nothing to lose and they should start gambling at least a little more. As Kiszla mentioned in his article, to not even consider going for it on 4th and 6 from the 36 or 37 yd line when there was 8 minutes left on the clock....along with the play calling in the red zone was extremely telling.

lifeafter elway
10-30-2007, 02:49 PM
yeah it was, i was amazed that we went with such a vanilla call there on 3rd down there at the end - obviously playing for OT. Why not a double tight end set, passing to either Tight end, or option play?

If the O starts scoring, then I guarantee it will cure a lot of ills. And I still have high hopes for the O scoring-wise. And I gurantee if the O starts putting up 28 ppg, the angst like you have will disappear. There will be a lot of optimism on this board.

So I agree with lifeafter. I still like the team. I won't go so far as to say I "really like" this team. I like the potential they still have.

What would you guys do to try and improve your team?

Try to acquire additional draft picks and let your young guys develop?

Sign every FA you can possibly land your hands on?

Trade up in the draft for a superstar franchise savior?

Blame it on the defensive coordinator?

I would probably go with option #1, but my money would be on Denver going for #2 and #4.

Yes, what this board needs right now is some more b****ing.

:)

Not "more" bitching....just re-allocated bitching directed where it should be sometimes. The blanket attacks on the defense get pretty old when one could make a compelling argument for attacking the offense instead. With the exception of the SD game, the offense's inability to get the ball in the EZ far outweighs the defense's inability to stop the opposing offenses.

If you're just talking about offense, I agree. We're not perfect, but I feel we have many of the the right tools ON OFFENSE. Defense is a completely different story and we need get rid of guys such as McKinley, Burton, Adams and Rice. I'm one of the few on this board who likes Gold...but as a situational player. His speed can be useful, but not on every down.

I would like to see a combination of all 4.
I am not sure bates is that great of a coach. I always thought your system should reflect your players ability. He came in an stubbornly insisted, despite our personal, to install his system without any modifications to reflect what we do well.

I would like to see us agressive in free agency and the draft (as we have been) as well as keeping the talent we develop. I think on offense we reflect that. Your seeing free agents (graham, walker, stokely) and home grown talent (shef, cutler, marshall) creating a dynamic, if not underproducing offense.

But on defense we have failed to keep talent as it develops, drafted poorly, and have been poor in free agency. Aside from Lynch and Bly - we havent brought in anyone that has managed to stick and play to potential.

Whoa, I kind of spaced out there. Had Shields on my brain.

One current HOFer on the team.

But the only thing sillier than me forgetting about Shields retiring is you thinking that Tony is anything but automatic into the pro football HOF. Any other idea is laughable. Arguably one of the best at his position. Ever.

I used to think Art Monk was an automatic, he retired with the top receiving record. Can't get into the hall. When you look at Gates and Winslow and what they are accomplishing....They'll shoot by 88. It all depends, but I can see it happening.

1. I am also very excited about this team. It's fun to watch them (even though I hate losing).
2. I totally disagree about all the defense bullsquat. Our defense outright sucked last night, but we only gave up 13 points through four quarters. Unfortunately they also cost us a couple timeouts in the second half that could have sealed the deal for us.
3. Our offense easily should have had 2 more touchdowns. By my math, that would have been 27, and would have easily handed us the victory. The playcalling is fine on offense (but I would like to see one or two deep balls per game).

This franchise is all about the quarterback, not the defense. It all starts with Cutler and out new O-line. Those pieces are being put in place. It will also be interesting to see if Harris pushes Pears for the RT spot next year.

Count me in, this team will be very exciting. The defense can't get much worse!

I do agree that we have a lot of young tallent on this team, but some of the playcalling sucks.........in the red zone. Why not watch some of new englands games and steal some plays from them.......get creative. Do not just run the ball up the middle when you are about five yards out.....i don't get it

I don't think Tony is a lock. Let's say he plays for 2 more years. It takes 5 years to be elligible for the hof. That's 7 years. Gates will probably be right on the tail of most of Tony's records by then, and that is going to detract from Tony's bid.
