I have nothing against Arkansas.

I went to college in Arkansas (on academic scholarship). Before going there, I had the same attitude towards the state that most of you seem to have. However, I found it to be an absolutely gorgeous state -- beautiful mountains, trees, lakes, forest, wildlife -- with a population of gregarious, generous people who were incredibly kind, family and church oriented, and willing to give the shirt off their back to a stranger, if need be. I have fond memories of my years there, and have even considered building a retirement home there in the future.
I'm not sure where the vitriol comes from regarding Arkansas, but unless you've actually been there, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.... that's a classic example of prejuidice (i.e. judging something before actually experiencing it.)

Funny how the small-minded, ignorant topics bring out the small-minded, ignorant raiders fans.

Why does the wind always blow west in Arkansas?
Because Kansas City sucks!

I have to second that motion. When I was a very young man in the military living on the meager salary a PFC recieved I got stuck in an ice storm in the airport in little rock over the christmas holiday. All flights were canceled and I didn't have enough money to make any arrangements for lodging.
One of the agents working the counter offered to have me come over to his house and spend the weekend with his family until the airport reopened for business.
Good people with heart!

Funny you should mention that, seeing as how your own mother has been calling around trying to make arrangements to get you airlifted out of her basement. Unfortunately none of the private companies could do it so she had to put a call in to the Army.
If you see one of these beasts flying around your house, be afraid....be very afraid.

Yea kinda sucks out there. Around Hot Springs and Northern Arkansas is where we look our best. Hunting (both deer and duck) good to the east closer to the Mississippi River and around the White River.

My mother recently moved to Hot Springs, from Denver. We all thought she was insane. Went to visit her a few months ago, and thus spent a week or so in deepest Ark. Still think she's insane, but its not *quite* as bad as I was expecting. Pretty in many spots, and the people as a whole seemed nice -- if a little too evangelical for my tastes. But damn, the heat and humidity! It'll kill you! Ark Bronco, how do you stand it?

Whoops -- got Oklahoma and Missouri mixed up there. Pretty embarrassing, especially since I've been all over that region.
Oh well, I'm stupid and Kansas City still sucks.

Arkansas? What I think of is regret that the Big XII blew it when we couldda had the Arkansas Razorbacks. As I heard it, from a VERY good source, Arkansas joined the SEC in the early 90s, but included a 10-year "out clause" stating that if Texas joined or formed a new conference, they could leave the SEC and join that conference. Problem was, Texas governor Anne Richards was a Baylor alum or something, and she used politics to force the small, private, religious school Baylor into the new Big XII deal, in order to agree to the 3 big Texas state schools joining. That meant there was no room for the Razorbacks. Baylor is the only private school, and is by a wide margin the smallest school in the Big XII.
Imagine the Big XII South with Arkansas instead of Baylor - that would make Big XII both the best football and best basketball conferences in the nation.
I will say THANK YOU ARKANSAS for the Clintons and Billy Bob Thornton. But then again you also gave us Wal-Mart ... so I guess that's a wash.

The Southwest Conference used to be a big deal. The Cotton Bowl used to be a big deal. Arkansas/Texas is still a big rivalry. I'm looking forward to the home-and-home series for 2008 and 2009.
The Buffalo and White Rivers are awesome.

As a fellow bronco fan living a mere 5 minutes from ArkBronco I can contest we live at least 10 miles from the nearest trailer park. We did give the world Walmart and as the only diamond producing state that allows you to mine on a state park if you care to. Also we are murphy oil and pump oil for gas instead of middle east. We were the 25th state to union our sister state is Michigan cuz back in the day we needed a free state to join the union. Hope, Ark tends to of late produce presidental candiates. Bill Clinton for Democrats and Mike Huckabee for Republicans. Most Arkansians are die hard Arkansians most don't move away. We do wear shoes and have fast speed cable internet. Every city in Arkansas has a Wal-mart. And most imporantly we have Broncos fans here although local maps favor Tennessee Titans and the Colts.

It was like that before Jones bought it. I like to be outside the box and chose another team when I was young to be different. My dad isnt a real cowboys fan like my grandfather was but I still give dad grief on the cowboys because he use to watch em allot.

I guess as a native you get use to it but some days you simply cant work to hard outdoors. In the summer we also have a huge mosquito problem but growing up next to a rice field I am pretty immune. The tear my wife up but hardly land on me.
