Use what excuses you want. Schilling knows how to pitch, and he knows how to do it in big enviroment, due to his past accomplishment. Neither Webb, or Peavy had been through that pressure before.

Beckett shut down anyone right now.

PS - I think we keep posting to the thread to keep mojo moving in the right direction,

Disappointing to say the least. Fogg lost the game when he gave up a two-run single to Matsuzaka with two out. It should have been 3-0 instead of 6-0.

Fuentes sealed the deal with his performance in the 8th.

What a nightmare. The Red Sox are going to win the World Series in Denver either Sunday or Monday. For me it's like the Raiders winning the Super Bowl in Denver (which obviously can't happen) or the Red Wings winning the Stanley Cup in Denver (which obviously can't happen).

You know what this is like? Having to play 4 Super Bowls against San Fransisco in 1990 and getting beat each time.

It's bad enough to go and get clobbered in a Championship once. It's another level of embarrassment and humiliation to have it done three times (and in all likelihood four times) in a row.

The World Series is torture for the loser. At least in the Super Bowl you either win or lose in one night. Ugh.

I am just guessing that was a poke at Rox fans. If any Rockie fans were saying Tito couldn'nt coach in a national league game, it just proves how much that fan doesn't follow the game and is truely a Bandwagon jumper. Tito came up managing in the NL. He knows how to manage the game.

Give your guys a break Laz. No NL team would have made this years world series a competitive one, no matter who the AL team was. Face facts, the AL is FAR surperior to the NL. It's not even close. It's pretty much on par with how the AFC is so much beeter then the NFC in football.
The Rox have nothing to be ashamed of. Even if they lose the 4th game 20-0, they turned alot of heads this season. If the Rockies front office does the right thing, they should be a foce for years to come.

I think it's safe to say they're playing like a team that barely made the playoffs, against the best team in baseball. You can play the rust card all you want, but it won't change the fact that the Red Sox are the better club.

I take my hat off to the Rox for the run that they made, but the true colors of both teams has been evident in the Series.

phillybroncosnut
10-28-2007, 12:09 PM
Rust? Wow, they are diggin deep in Rockie world. The Red Sox are better in almost, if not all, aspects of the game. Better starting pitching (not even close), better bull pen, better lineup offensively, better coaching, better base running, etc. I don't really know how many ways you can say it but, the Sox are a much better team then the Rox.

I didn't see either Schilling or Beckett out on the mound last night, and don't think that change my statement. You can attempt to change the facts if you want but those two (Beckett and Schilling) are what stopped the Rockies bats the first two games. And Dice-K pretty much did same last night. Okie let up the home run, but came right back and strike out the side, and Paps was dominate once again. Face it the Sox are better team right now.

Doesn't matter what the team he managed for in the NL did or didn't do. However, IF you follow baseball and aren't some fly by night bandwagon jumper, you would know he managed in the NL.

However, IF you follow baseball and aren't some fly by night bandwagon jumper, you would know he managed in the NL.Good thing no Rockie fan said the Rockies had a managerial advantage because Francona couldn't manage NL-style ball.

There were, however, several mentions of an advantage in our NL ballpark due to better fielding and no DH, both of which turned out false. Cory Sullivan and Brad Hawpe cost the team runs by not being able to make diving catches in the outfield and Josh Fogg misplayed Pedroia's bunt in the fateful 3rd inning. Fogg also gave up the dagger-in-the-heart 2-rbi single to Dice-K Matsuzaka, who'd never had an MLB hit before.

Also, there is no bigger bandwagon in baseball than Boston's since 2004. The Rockies have a big bandwagon right now, no doubt, but it doesn’t compare to the Red Sox colossus.

Breck, come on bro. NOTHING could be further from the truth. Boston is an incredible baseball town. The only other club that even compares with them is Chicago (Cubs). How could you say something so untrue. If your upset about your Rox, that's understandable. But to blurt out something so wrong, is just laughable.
Red Sox fans have been through it all and have continually sold our Fenway. It's a ritual out there. I'm not a Red Sox fan but I have a bunch of relatives that live out there. They are as fanatical as Bronco fans are in Football.

The only team that Bostonian's have totally jumped on the bandwagon for is the Pats. The Pats were the #4 team in Boston forever. It was Celtics/Red Sox #1, Briuns #2 and a distant last were the Pats.
They are very pationate about Baseball in Boston. Football, not so much. Well, until recently. If you want to call them Bandwagon fans in Football, I agree. Baseball? Nothing could be further from the truth.

The truth is, for the Rockies to take the next step the Monforts have to go. They've taken the concept of the "cheap payroll" to its extreme, but that's as far as they'll go, IMHO. You need much deeper pockets to really compete.

You can "compete" with cheap ownership. The Indians, Twins, and A's all do fine each year. In order to Win the entire thing, it's safe to say, you need an ownership that will spend the money needed to give you that chance the win.

It depends on who you talk to. I never knew who the dominate team was (C's or Sox). That said, BOTH are tremendously loved in Boston. C's vs Sox is debatable. What isn't debatable is how much Bostonians love both.

Just like now you might not be able to tell if it's Sox or Pats.

It's always been the Red Sox. The Bruins were #2 during the Orr years - even though the Celtics were winning more. Debatable, but not an uncommon thought among the older crowd.

Hey ya Focker!!!!! Are you calling me "older"? I'm only 32 (well, i turn 33 tomorrow). I knew the "B"s were big in Boston as that's what my Pop always told me.
I can't really debate who the biggest team was but I know the Sox are huge and that's all I was trying to get across to Breck when he called Bostonian's bandwagon fans.

Boston always has, and always will be the best baseball city in the country. Pats fans mostly are bandwogoneers. The Celtics were right there in their heyday, but the Sox fans have always been there. Even through a near century of torment, the Sox were always the team in Boston. They'll rival any fan base in sports. Of course you have a glob of band wagoneers since 2004, like any Chmapionship team has, but to write off the bulk of Sox fans is laughable.

They are close to the top, but that distinction belongs to St. Louis.

I grew up in New England, having lived in Maine, New Hampshire, and Mass for various stints. I now live about an hour outside St. Louis.

It isn't even a contest. Boston wins hands down running away. Cardinals fans love their team sure, but the level of devotion and overall baseball fanaticism isn't even close. They are for the most part a very sportsmanlike group so they don't boo a player having a momentous game against their team, but being a good sport and being a die hard fan are two different things.

You walk into a sports bar in New England and talk baseball with the random locals and I guarantee at least one of them will know as much about the Sox' farm system as any minor league reporter. You do the same in St. Louis and you'll get a lot of blank stares if you mention the names Colby Rasmus or Pete Kozma. There's just a different level of interest. They love their Cards in the St. Louis area but they don't love baseball and all the various facets that make up a baseball team like your long term Red Sox fans do.

Its taken 2 1/2 games for the Rockies to finally get back to recognizing pitches but theyre still not all the way there. The game vs Schilling made it obvious the layoff is hurting Colorado considerably. The Rockies arent only now recognizing pitches well enough to fight off a good pitch sometimes and extend an at bat. But they were still swinging at bad pitches and letting not hitting hittable pitches because it has taken them a while to start recognizing pitches again. Its obvious their timing/pitch recognition has been thrown off considerably. 1 hit through 4 innings against Dice K says it all in spite of how much you are in love with Curt Schilling and what he did in 1993, 2001, and 2004.

I know it's major second-guessing, but for a Rockies staff that's been hammered almost every inning this series, why pull Herges after he strikes out the side and Holiday blasts them to within one run? I realize they had to hit for him, and that their 8th and 9th inning closers are set, but I wouldda stayed with Herges - after the first dominant inning pitched for them in the Series - despite all that. Why tempt fate?

(And yes - I DID say it at the time...)

Would familiarity of minor league players have anything to do with the fact that the Red Sox have had a minor league team in Pawtucket for a long time?

It would if the majority of Sox fans weren't equally well educated on every minor league prospect of note, which includes a high A affiliate based out of Lancaster California.

The current Sox have made some smart moves by consolidating their NE minor league presence, it helps cultivate "Red Sox Nation" but its not why. The minor league outfits used to be a lot more scattered and fans were still very knowledgeable.

Also, knowledge of the minor leagues is the symptom, not the reason. Its just a higher ratio of die hard baseball fans who happen to love the Sox as opposed to Cardinals or some other team's fans who enjoy baseball.

I was thinking the same thing last night. He was making it look real easy for an inning.

Wrap it up tonight Sox!!

Gawd.... There are 2 players that I absolutely dispise in the Sox. JD Drew and Manny. Manny is all that is wrong in a baseball player. Manny is all about Manny. From the statue like pose (standing at homeplate in game 4 of the ALCS with his hands in the air for 10 seconds) while his team is getting killed, to the check me out as I flip my helmet off while running the bases. Actually I do. Manny is weird and lose focus easily, but I don't think he media hog or I am bigger then game type. He is well liked in the locker room and very very hard worker. If he was I"m bigger then the game" type he would be lot more open to the media.

Because he really is insecure. Of all the players that are bad for game Manny isn't in the top ten. I have bigger problem with Gary Sheffield, Bonds, Carl Everett - all locker room cancers - then Manny standing at the plate admiring a hit.

Exactly, when down 3-1 in the ALCS manny made the "its not the end of the world" comment and it seemed, whether it was intentional or not, to take the pressure off the people who were struggling. Manny doesnt get half the credit he deserves for the work he puts in. And you know what, if he doesnt care i wouldnt have it any other way. Because its Manny being Manny and i LOVE it.

What about all the "trade me" chatter? Stick Ellsbury in left and it's the same result. In fact, it's already proven.

Let's see, I could definately fit Manny into the top ten of jitbag players. I expect you to defend your player so i expect you will disagree. The rest of the leagues fanbases? I think Manny would be in their top 10 as well.

Some retard interviewing Terry Francona asked him if he had any advice for Clint Hurdle in winning a series after being down 3 games to none.

He had to be thinking "What the **** does this idiot expect me to say?"

His answer was damn funny though. Something along the lines of, "Uh, you do realize that I don't really want them to win... My team is playing against them!!!" At that point somebody suggested that the media person that asked the question have the mic taken away. Francona said, "yeah, good idea. No more questions from you!"

Sometimes I wonder if these news bozo's even watch sports with the questions they ask. Even at the high school varsity level I get some of the dumbest questions by the local newspapers after each game. I feel like saying, "dude, do you even watch sports". Dude, I never said he wasn't a phenominal hitter. He is on of the best hitters I've ever seen. that said, I can't stomach his act. I am a Baseball purest. I hate any player that intentionally shows up the pitcher by STANDING at the plate, arms extended for more then 1 second. I also can't stand a guy who flips his helmet cause he thinks it makes him look "cool(?)". I always try and stress to my players that the game is seperated by milliseconds and the least amount of time it takes you to..... Get to the next base, field the ball and get rid of it, get the ball at second and throw as you are catching it to turn a DP or a catcher getting up on his toes, leaning forward with a runner trying to steal..... the better chance you have at being a half second earlier to the base or with the throw.
Manny adjusting his body to flick off his helmet takes at least .5 seconds. Thats the difference between out and safe on 35% of plays made. I know for a fact that Manny would have been safe last night at the plate if not for the "I gotta be cool and flick my helmet off".
So, altering your game for something that YOU want to do (for whatever reason) makes you look like you are putting yourself in front of the team. That's just one of the problems I have with Manny.

Let me put it this way:
27 to 7.

Take your pick. Personally, I'll go with the 27.

Was the World Series on? I didnt tune in till tonight.

Sorry, still disgruntled at the meltdown my Tribe has. The Tribe did lose to the better team and congrats to the Rockies for an amazing run.

Congrats to the BoSox for winning the title.

Now we'll have to listen to Patswin all year especially if the Pats win the SB too! LOL!

New England sure seems to be in a sports groove these days. Maybe it's something in the water. I remember when we had one of those grooves around here, a Stanley Cup, a couple of Lombardis. Good times. Pats should enjoy it while it lasts.

World Series Champs !!!!!! Go Sox!

Fixed it. You can´t win a World Championship when the trophy is only contested by American and Canadian teams.

Congratulations Red Sox fans. I knew you guys could hit and had a couple of solid pitchers, but I was really surprised at how great your bullpen was in clutch situations. Rockies fans, what do we have to complain about? Did anyone expect us to make it this far? Look at how young our team is this year, hopefully next year we get over the hump. We better win next year because the following year Holliday will be a free agent and the Red Sox or the Yankees are guaranteed to try and pick him up. That's not a bidding war we can win. Our bullpen pitched like crap and we didn't get the clutch hits with 2 outs that we had got in the other 2 series.

Red sox were a better team, Because they bought their way to being like that. The Rockies did it the right way. No salary cap ruins baseball. Only a few teams being competitive and "Cinderalla" teams popping up every year.

And it doesnt help that lots of sox players are arrogant assholes.

yeah we bought ellsbury, pedroia, papelbon, delcarmen, youk, lester. all of whom played HUGE parts in winning the title. It was a complete team effort.

I agree with you abt the salary cap.

This sport will become nonexistant after 50 years if this continues.

I understand what you are saying, but I don't think you can blame Red Sox ownership for wanting to win. I think it is complementary for our Rockies to be as competitive as they've been this year with the payroll they have. I think baseball fans everywhere wish that their teams would have ownership as commited to winning and as passionate as those of the Red Sox and Yankees. Those teams put more money into their clubs because they seemingly care more about winning than they do $$$$. I think we have a similar owner in Pat Bowlen. Eventhough the NFL has a salary cap, how many teams spend way below that amount, where as owners like Bowlen, Jones and Snyder are spending every dollar. About the Sox players being arrogant a-holes, other than a celebration here or there, I didn't see too much disrespect on their behalf. I mean Papelbone and Manny made as*es out of themselves, but other than that I thought they behaved well.

I do have a question for lifelong BoSox fans, seems like a lot of new fans have popped up for Red Sox nation, especially the last few years.

Does that irk you as lifelong fans? I think that's where most of us have a disdain for the BoSox -- not for the team and the lifelong fans -- but its the new bandwagon BoSox fan that irks me and most of us.

do bandwagon fans irk me? absolutley. 2004 brought out quite a few of them but i wouldnt trade the feeling of that 2004 postseason for anything in the world.

Thats true. I'm a lifelong Spurs fan and I've seen quite a few pop up through the last number of years.

But I wouldn't trade that feeling for anything, cuz most of the bandwagon hoppers will be off once the good times end :>

I must state however, I think the Red Sox have finally broken the curse AND used up all of their magic. I mean, come on, coming back from a 3-0 to the Yankees and 3-1 to the Indians. That's Amazing.
