I really don't know what the plaers on the field in 2007 would have done without Monus. LMAO

I didn't think there was anything wrong with that column. It's all true. I disagree that there wouldn't be baseball in Denver without him - I think someone would have stepped up, or another team would have relocated there by now. Still, the guy had the money at the time (regardless of where he got it) to be at the front of the group that brought the team here. And thank God for that!

Whats wrong with the column is that when put together with his previous piece of work, its obvious he is a muckraking hack artist. Whether its accurate or not isnt really at issue nearly as much as the timing. So what? Its a rather inane column that in his mind brings shame and attempts to kill the Zeitgeist.

Uh well its just the general timing of the article. And more importantly the backhanded stab at trying to put a "bush league" kinda feel to the Denver area.
Just another east coast biased kinda thing. I mean if these guys have absolutely nothing to do with the team since its inception, which was 15-17 years ago, why bring it up right now?

the timing?
Rockies are in World Series, and most fans around the world don't know much about them. When else would you want this article to come out? right now more fans are watching the rockies all over the world, perfect time for a true article about the Rockies history to come out.
It's not like it is false in anyway, trying to slander in anyway, or straight out bashing in any way...It's truth.
Sometimes the truth hurts but I honestly see nothing wrong with the article nor the timing of it.

Why is it so bad? Because the guy went to jail?
Whatever...your history is what it is. Not sure how that is a bush league insinuation of Denver. This country started in the East and moved West over time. I think you're looking for something slanderous that just isn't there.
Like was mentioned, not many people know the history of the Rockies. You are the new player at the table.
Maybe you'd prefer another article on the sale of Babe Ruth to the Yankees? ;)

Exactly. It's been brought up by this individual to slight the Rockies pure and simple.

Do you REALLY believe that? This is the World Series, man. You have a bazillion writers that have to write about something....and all the new and interesting stuff is on the Rockies side. Why is that a bad thing?
Your team is being showcased to the masses. Enjoy it.

Do you think it was a coincidence that Byrd's HGH buying spree from a few years back just suddenly appeared at the time it did?
Or was it on purpose?

Off topic....but who knows?
The argument is that the SF Chronicle broke that story. I suppose it is possible a pro-Boston person was involved.
What about Beckett's ex singing at the game he started in Cleveland? Bizarre coincidence?
Neither thing matters. It really doesn't. The guys in the locker room don't care about that crapola. If it bothers any of them that much then they aren't doing their job very well.

You have to consider who wrote the article. When we kicked the crap out of the Pats in the playoffs he said we really didn't win the game. He did the same thing earlier this week...and now this. The guy has an agenda...no suprise he works for ESPiN

OK, well then there's some history there with this guy.
As an analogy I would point out all the crappy stuff that gets reported those 2 weeks before the superbowl. The game can't happen soon enough by the end of that first week. They run out of meaningful things to report on pretty fast.

Oh i dont think the indians players were up in arms over it, hell no!
I think its just odd that it comes out when it does.
I find it amusing that you DONT think theres a east coast biased, specifically from worckowski (is that how you spell it?) thats hillararious!!!!!!!!1

Is there a point to this article? Or is he just trying to stir up controversy? I hate written espn, I am getting to the point where I can't hardly stand the station. I almost consider the AFN commercials better than some of the ESPN commercials let alone programming.

Well, you can't really compare the two. Vinny Castilla didn't even know who Monus was. I bet most or the current Rockies are the same. This is not something that will create a distraction - even a small one. The Byrd thing was a HUGE distraction. And I believe it was timed to be such - why wouldn't a writer/newspaper want to release a column when it would get him/it the greatest amount of attention?
This is just a background piece that will be relegated to a place where almost nobody will read it.

Like I told GB, I didn't know the writer's history with Denver. But that article, at face value, was not the negative thing some people perceive it to be.
This East Coast bias thing is hard for me to comment on because I live here. Local news and national news are intertwined and I don't think much of it. I'm not always looking for some kind of sleight from the media.
I think it does exist, but not to the extent that some of you want to think. It's more of a population thing and the East Coast has the numbers. New York alone - plus its media monster - control the world. They are that big and influential.

Boston is 220 miles from NYC and we get the good/bad that comes with that geography. People like to think of Boston as #2 in a lot of ways. NY is so friggin big that there is no #2. You have to go to LA to find #2.
It wasn't until my 30's did I truly realize how much of the world New York controls. 9/11 opened my eyes to a lot of it.

PW, its not your place to tell other people their place when it comes to how they react to this guys pieces. Stop trying to talk down to people. No one here is trying to tell you when its ok to be offended by something.

Are you kidding me!?!?!? Sports fans here are all transplants dude.
There are more chokeland fans at Qualcomm than sparkler fans !

Boston doesnt come to mind as #2 for most people.
LA does.
And #3 is Chicago. Come to think of it, Boston is fairly worthless. It offers nothing really and hasnt for about 170 years. Beans big deal. Chicago is worthless now too, its got a failing population. Philly, a dirty ****ty town.
All the best places to live are out west and down south now and coincidentally the largest percentage population increases are in said places. Why? Because the northeast sucks, is full of ****ty people that speak with ****ty accents and eat ****ty clam chowder...and cheat. ;D How ya doin Patsie?

Let's cut lex a little slack - he's still kinda new here. It takes a while to understand the dynamics of this place.
BTW, people lump us with NY mostly because of the baseball salary spending. We are the #6 media market if that's what you are talking about.
Know what's funny about all the bean/Beantown references? I never see Boston Baked bean-related stuff around here. I am under the impression that you people think we have bean museums and bean amusement parks here. Hell, if I want beans I go to the supermarket just like you do and make a choice between Bush's and B&M.
Of course, if there was a bean museum in Houston it would be the main attraction. Well that and the alluring 142% humidity. :yayaya:

You're a bigger whiner than anyone in this thread. You basically go out of your way to complain about northern urban areas. Massive hordes of people migrating south because businesses are relocating there for the cheap labor is not a benchmark for quality of life. This world view you have is amusing.

I've never heard of Monus. I don't think it was a hateful article about Denver. Monus wasn't even local. He still hasn't even seen Coors Field.
