The Sports Network reports the Arizona Cardinals released DL Quentin Moses Tuesday, Oct. 16. Moses was released to make room on the roster for QB Tim Hasselbeck.

Dumervil is a starter and one of the better players against the run...but other than that you're right.

Shoot, I wasn't in love with him coming out but if we move some people around on our practice squad, I would bring him in.

Look for the Patriots to sign him and make him into a beast in their 3-4.

He was great in his junior year. I would certainly bring him on the PS to see if something could be made of him.

Dumerville is not good against the run. He tends to run himself out of a lot of plays. In fact Denver doesn't have a DE that is good against the run. Engleberger probably plays the run the best and when JE is the best on the roster at something your team is in trouble.

ill pass on him he dropped in the spring now he is being dropped by NFL teams. if it was a DT i would jump but another DE no thanks

Somethig is very strange about this guy Moses. They all sing his praises - even Lane Kiffin praised him highly after they cut him. He must be a bad character, cause his size and speed alone make him worthy of a practice squad somewhere. Article from 6 weeks ago, when the Cards picked him up:

When the Oakland Raiders cut defensive end Quentin Moses last week, the reaction was typical to that of many of their personnel moves: What were they thinking, cutting a third-round pick with pass-rushing skills?

In the NFL, it's hard to give up so early on a 6-foot-5, 260-pounder who has the size and athletic ability to become a decent pass rusher. Was owner Al Davis overruling the coaching staff? Did the Raiders' front office make a paperwork error?

The Cardinals don't much care. Surprised that Moses was available, they claimed him on waivers Sunday, and he practiced with them for the first time Monday.

"He has a chance to be an excellent pass rusher," Cardinals General Manager Rod Graves said. "When you have a guy like that who has that kind of frame, athletic ability, speed, you have to be patient and work with those kids. "It gives us a chance to develop a guy like that and get something out of him."

The Raiders say they let Moses go simply because they had better players. Coach Lane Kiffin raved about Moses at the end of training camp, calling his performance "outstanding." But Moses, who played at Georgia, was beaten out by another rookie, Jay Richardson, a fifth-rounder out of Ohio State.

On Sunday, Kiffin told reporters that Moses "will be a good player in this league. But at the end of looking at all of it, we had other people that could help us more. I think it shows everything that we're about here, about how competitive this field is, that a player as good as Quentin couldn't make the roster. Also, it shows that we're not worried about where a guy was drafted or how much a guy was paid in free agency."

The Cardinals essentially said the same thing Friday when they released their third-round pick, linebacker Buster Davis out of Florida State. The Cardinals rated Moses in their top 120 players coming out of the draft, Graves said. With outside linebacker/defensive end Chike Okeafor out for the year, the team needed some depth at the position.

Moses begins his career as one of the backups to Bertrand Berry and Joe Tafoya, who play the weak-side defensive end/outside linebacker spot in the 3-4 scheme. The Cardinals aren't sure if that's where Moses will stay.

"We don't know enough about him, as far as how he'll fit in," coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "You miss training camp with him, so you kind of find out about that on the run."

It's a different spot for Moses, who is accustomed to playing as a down defensive end in a 4-3 alignment. "I've never played standing up," Moses said. "Before the draft, a lot of teams talked to me about playing that system."

In college, Moses' forte was rushing the passer, and he was good enough at it to be rated a first-day draft pick by many teams. "That will probably be the reason why most people give me a shot," Moses said after practice Monday. "I know it ain't for run-stoppin'."

Moses called his release "somewhat of a surprise," but he found out quickly that the NFL is a business. "Sometimes things just don't work out," he said. "Everybody is good on this level. I had a somewhat good camp, but some other guys had good camps also."


I guess BroncoBuff cops to being wrong about this guy - I wanted Moses - even over Crowder. I thought he was a poor man's Gaines Adams and could develop into a good 3rd down pass rusher. It's still a bit early on Crowder, but he's gotta be better than this loser.

So ... I was wrong about re-signing Kyle Johnson, and apparently about Moses. That's TWICE I've been wrong, if you're scoring at home. Or even if you're alone.

Actually that is not the case. He is a very high character guy. There was an article in ESPN Magazine before his senior year talking about his personal life and how much he had overcome and how much he was giving back.

He is a real mystery to me. Before his senior year he looked like a sure thing, top ten pick, then he just kind of went completely in the tank during his senior year.
