View Full Version : Monday night sports conflict, what will you do?

Game Five of the World Series (*if neccessary, third sweep?) is scheduled to be played at Coors Field on Monday, October 29. That same evening the Broncos and Packers square off on Monday Night Football. Greg Aiello said the league will not change the start time for MNF because there is "no parking or facility conflict".

What will you do that night?

I'm not a baseball fan, and even I think there's no contest. I'd easily rather watch the World Series but I'd flip back and forth. Is the Packers game already sold out? If not if might jeapordize the sell out streak. Either way I bet there'd be tons of empty seats unless there's a sweep.

I said it in the tailgate section and bb thread that many fans that have both tickets will sell the broncos tickets without a doubt! Too many ticket choices will possibly lower the prices on the WS IMO. You got to go with the baseball game a no doubter. Broncos are sucking eggs and Rockies are making history. I am flying in for the football game but will try to get tickets for the WS on SUnday. Maybe sneak in to that one. All i know is i will be at the football game tailgate but i think many people going will stay a little longer at their tailgate watching tv of the Rocks game. THe city is going to be hopping mad. Going to be fun if I am there and they clinch it on Sunday or Monday. Please no riots this time around.

dude, we have had a sellout since 1968 or 1973, cant remember but it is over 233 games i believe. Watch out for a ton of people trying to dump their tickets. Maybe to get the crowd to yell (even if the timing is wrong), the stadium operators should put the WS game on the big screen.

The Broncos regular season is sold out before tickets are printed.

There's going to be some no-shows for the MNF game, but you also have to keep in mind Brett Favre and the Packers are going to be a huge draw. This is the last time to catch Favre without attending a game at Lambeau Field. Maybe the Packer fans will come in numbers from dairy country and take advantage of the situation.

I think Bud Selig and MLB are extremely stupid to delay the start of the WS until next Wednesday and go head-to-head with MNF.

Like i said in the tailgate section, let us see those diehard broncos fans come out by being able to get a MNF game ticket cheap. Jana of course wont be at the FB game but will tell us all how she would have been at the 50 yard line rooting for the broncos like a real fan should have in the 4th quarter against the Chargers. Step up folks. Lots of cheapies going to be out there.
The city is going to be a mess with the usual out of towners for the broncos, then you have a big traveling cheese head circus coming in (lots of extra LBs), the Rockies fans coming in for the games and of course either Red Sox nation or Indians' fans. TG i got my hotel and car already. Taxi cabs are going to be at a premium. I cant imagine driving into lodo trying to find a parking spot.

No they play the night before against the Wild...I won't make that game. However I am going to the one after that one on a Thursday when the Penguins and Sidney Crosby roll into Denver. I love Denver because of the variety of professional sports it has here. World Series, MNF, Crosby and his gang in Denver...wow.8')

I just don't get Baseball at all. Everything to do with the NFL in general and the Broncos in particular excites the hell out of me but baseball just leaves me cold. If I've every watched any its out of a sense of curiosity to know what the hell people are going on about, but unlike with the NFL that never lead to me getting hooked.

Of course being a brit I do maintain a passing interest in Cricket, that's the only concession I'm prepared to make to stick-based sporting endeavours.

of course the other issue is that to watch either means staying up 'till about 4 in the morning with work the next day.....so maybe i just miss'em both.....

It's going to be interesting. I'll probably watch the Rocks and switch back. It obviously depends on how the games go. If the Broncos are down 21 in the 1st quarter, I probably won't watch it at all. Likewise, if the Rockies are down 10 runs or something, I'll go with the Broncos.

Or maybe I'll just switch back over every 15 seconds and give myself a seizure.

Based on the present performance of the broncos, and assuming the rox have an AL opponent by then, I'd start with the rockies and see if the broncos are putting forth any sort of worthwhile effort to cause one to invoke the "previous channel" clause on your remote. Present day though, the rox are a good bet for a quality sporting event, not the broncos.......dman

I think a lot depends on our game vs. the Steelers and the standings in the series. What if game five comes with the Rockies leading 3-1 (or [shudder] the AL representative leading 3-1)? Series on the line and a win (or a loss) ends it.

For the Broncos, if we come out this sunday looking like we've finally learned something from the three loss streak then that makes the decision a bit harder. If Pittsburgh come in a kicks our ass then the Bronco season will be over and the decision becomes "Rockies without question." I'd rather watch championship baseball than watch the Broncos flounder their way to 2-5 or 3-4 (if that's how it works out).

Piss off. Just because some of us want to watch a game that means something doesn't mean we've quit being fans. The Rockies are making history, the Broncos (so far) are repeating it (1960's ring a bell).

Maybe the Broncos should support their fans the way the fans have supported them.

Wow, what a cool problem to have in all honesty. Who would've thought this would happen?

Way to go, Rockies.

As for the question at hand, I'm going to the Broncos game. Sold an extra ticket to a good buddy of mine (who is, regretably, a Packer fan) who has never been to a game before. It was tough to sell him the ticket, but he's a good guy who won't be a jerk.

So, I'm pretty locked in to the Broncos game. Even if not, the only way I wouldn't go to the Broncos game is if I had a ticket to the World Series. How many times is that chance going to come around? I wouldn't miss the Broncos game to watch the series on TV that's for sure.

Nut I think I could live in your world. Let me give this a try....

-We'd all be eating gourmet food and drinking the good stuff!

-There would be a Stalin style round up of scalpers around Invesco. They'd be hung at the west side of Lot C. Not saying I wasn't wrong, I admit I didn't give it much thought. But it's an awful inconsequential subject for you people to get all hoity toity about.

My main point I don't think you can argue with, interest in the Broncos is as precarious now as it's ever been. Right now at this moment they are a clear second fiddle in this town and that's simply never happened before. I'm not saying that it's going to fall apart just because the Broncos had their most embarrassing home loss in recent memory while the Rockies are electrifying the sports world. I don't think the Broncos are in for a long stretch of mediocrity personally and as long as they are at least decent they'll be the overall #1. But I don't think the situation now can be compared to anything before the Rockies and Avs came to town. Since then the Broncos have generally been a winning team (with the exception of 99 which was right after two Super Bowl wins). They are not as impervious to an extended stretch of mediocrity like they were in the 60's and 70's.

Used to be a baseball fan many years ago, but one that has found it increasingly more and more boring over the years. Keep track of the standings and do watch the playoffs and WS. Am completely enamored with the Rockies streak and loving what they are doing. That being said, the Broncos and football as a whole still hold my attention more and will be switching over to the WS only when there is a lull in the action and at commercials. With baseball that will probably allow me to see all the highlights.

Good choice. If it were me, I'd be at the ball game in a heartbeat. The Broncos to date, are nothing to write home about, continue to sputter and embarrass, and one's attendance at their game, in place of a WORLD SERIES GAME? No comparison. Rox take it hands down....dman

However, IF I were in Denver, it wouldnt matter if I was a fan or not, or if the Broncos were undefeated and kicking ass in doing so, Id try my damndest to get to the WS. Why? O4L you better bring the Orange Crush. None of that Fanta fake orange soda. You almost cost us the Faider game bringing that stuff around. ANyone else showing their diehard fanatisism at the Broncos game, roll call on the tailgate section if partying with the Mane. All others going to the Rocks game, bring your radio at least.

So..... if I have a ticket to the WS game 5 and it's played. I will go to that - period. That is almost a silly question.

If the Rockies can clinch it in that game 5 and I don't have a WS ticket then I will have a very hard time going in to watch the Broncos game and probably will give my Broncos ticket away and watch the baseball game in the tailgate of the Broncos game....

Just bring a little tv set to your seats. Or hang out with AK in the club level where i am sure they have big screens in the concourse.

Watch only the Broncos game, couldn't care less about the Rockies.

Couldn't give a sh*t less about baseball - it bores the crap out of me.

I didnt even know you liked football! I bet if there was a poll answer of "Watching MSNBC " you would have picked that one. Damn, didnt even know you knew this part of the Mane.

Chances are, one would be able to get their mitts on a Broncos ticket a lot easier than one for a World Series game....these are the situations that transitor radios were made for.

Go to the Broncos game with that radio and earpiece in place....if the Rox win it that night, the party will be there afterwards for quite awhile I reckon.

Problem solved.

BTW, how much Rox gear will one see at the MNF game? Anyone willing to wager?

A lot. I went to the Avs game on Tuesday and there was tons of Rox gear. They were even doing the "Tulo" chant

The Tulo chant? That ain't that thing to "Be Sweet" is it? I heard that when I was there for the Dodger game and said to Sass "No player should come to bat to a song like that"....

You know, there's another big reason why to only watch the Broncos this upcoming MNF game, especially for the Non-Direct TV, Non NFL Network, out of town viewers.....it could be one of the last times they'll be in a prime time TV spot.

Oh sure, you'll have the other MNF game against the Titans, but unless the team turns things around, that'll be it.....remember last years bullshat "Flex Scheduling" thing that so many supported and thought was a great idea because Denver never has a bad season and it'd mean more prime time Broncos games because of that? Well, guess what..........you can kiss the XMas Eve game against San Diego goodbye (if they don't turn it around) and probably forget about any Sunday nationally broadcasted games past the time the Flex comes into play as well.

That leaves only two more times on non dish TV, both on ESPN.....not being a Rockies or Tribe fan (I refuse to give Boston a chance in that thing), limited Broncos broadcasting oppertunities trump the World Series in my house.

After being in Colorado for the better part of the past month, I was truly stunned at the focus on the Rockies. I've NEVER ever heard the Rockies news stories leading off the mindless 20/20 sports updates on the radio even on their day off, pushing Broncos, Avs and Nuggets news to an afterthought.

I think this could be one of the more apathetic Broncos games in recent memory (and for a Monday nighter no less) if the Rockies game does go to game 5.

As for what I would do, well, I bleed orange and blue. There would be no doubt what I would be giving the attention to. GO BRONCOS!

BUT, when it comes down to who do I want to win ... GO BRONCOS!

I'll admit it, I'm a bandwagon fan when it comes to the Rockies. Growing up in the Springs I got to go to plenty of Sky Sox games. That was before the Rockies came to be though. Albert and Jay Bell used to play in the Springs regularly as the Sox were the Farm Club for the Cleveland Indians. At any rate, I grew up a Yankees fan. Lived in Houston long enough to follow and care for the Astros. I'm getting to that point for the Rockies since I live here now, but at this point I'm nothing more than a bandwagon fan. You know you're bandwagon when you only know the starters and can't name the GM. In due time though, all in due time. My folks are diehard Rocks fans and have been sending me all kinds of Rockies stuff. I arrived home to a brand new Rockies NLChamps T-shirt yesterday!

Bottom line though, I'll forever be a Bronco fan first. I enjoy baseball and that was my favorite and best sport growing up, but Football is what I enjoy most now. I'm not going tomorrow night (still reeling from the SD game!) but I'll damn sure support our boys from my living room. The Broncos Packers game is a (seemingly) hard ticket to find so I won't be there but I'll be watching the Broncos game and tuning into the WS whenever there is a break in the Football game. Plus I'll have my Dad calling every 10 minutes to ask if I saw this or that in the baseball game!

A friend of mine is going to the game tomorrow and I've offered to watch all three of his kids while he takes his wife. He's a Bronco fan but grew up in Pittsburgh. He said he's wearing a Steelers hat and a Broncos jersey. I told him he should go with one or the other but he's truly split. He's in the South Stands so hopefully they'll let him know he's a "confused" fan!!!

At any rate, tomorrow won't be a good day/night for me to hook up with you guys. Another time when the Broncos are on the road... which seems to be every game in November and December!!!

Lets see. go to a bronco game during one of their worst seasons in memory or go to a historic rockies game?
did the nfl or the broncos ask our permission when they brought some games on the NFL network? NO they said screw you. get a cable company or sat.that will show the game
its a business and the rockies are a better product right now.
Love my Broncos. but not as much as the orange crush days.
