Upon learning that he will used be as a backup following his team's bye week, halfback Tatum Bell has informed the Detroit Lions through his agent that he wants to be traded.

Bell, acquired in a trade from the Broncos during the offseason, entered the regular season as the starter. But last year's starter Kevin Jones has gradually been getting more playing time in recent weeks, and Bell's carries diminished in the second half of last Sunday's loss at Washington.

Bell's agent, Jeffrey Griffin, talked to the Lions late this week and expressed his concerns about his client's future in Detroit. With the trading deadline set for next Tuesday and teams in need of running backs, Griffin suggested a trade, although the team informed him he was a valuable part of the offense.

After the season, Bell is a free agent and wants to use this year to enhance his value. He has 44 carries for 182 yards this season in five games.

I don't think he was that bad of a draft pick. I mean, yeah he wasn't the feature back we wanted him to be, but he piled up yards. Sure, so have many others in the system, but I don't think he was terrible by any means.

as long as they keep Foster around until after we play them. We need a saloon door to the QB. Or at to least their real running back .

I don't think this should surprise anyone. It is the same reason he ended up at Oklahoma St. Instead of a bigger school like Texas that wanted him. He said why go to Texas where you have to compete for playing time when you can show up at Oklahoma St. and be a starter from day 1. Even then he was unwilling to compete for a starting job. He just wants someone to hand him a starting position based on his natural ability.

Bell is a sick change of pace back. He is at his best behind a power runner used as a change up.

The Raiders' run game situation is getting pretty interesting. Dominic Rhodes comes back from suspension this week and looks to get a bunch of touches considering Lamont Jordan is injured. We'll see how Rhodes looks coming in.

Bush will also be eligible to leave the PUP soon... I heard from someone that he was looking good... that could turn into a really crazy backfield down there.

OK St. churns out better RBs than Texas. You're talking about OK St like they're Texas A&M. Pull your head out of your Texass before posting.

Let me get this straight... we got a starting CB for a benched O-lineman and a RB that wants to get traded.

Advantage - Denver. Maybe we should stick to this trading thing. We seem to excel at it.

Really? who was the last great back to come out of Oklahoma St?

Btw, those were Tatum's words not mine. He is the one you said he didn't want t to go to Texas and fight for a chance to get on the field when he could go to Okie light and be the man from day 1. I am just relating it to his career in the pro's where it seems he is waiting for someone to just name him the starter because of his natural ability. He has talent and speed there is no doubt about that he just doesn't seem to want to work at it or work for it.

Um probably the greatest RB to play the game not named Walter Payton. I can't believe you even asked this question. Haven't seen Texas produce anything like that, except for one who was the greatest pot smoker ever. But he flopped instead.

I know about Barry Sanders, I am not that stupid. Is that the last one to come out of Oklahoma St because that almost 20 years ago. You may remember a guy by the name of Earl Campbell, yea he played at Texas and I would take him on my team over Sanders any day of the week. More recently, I would say Priest Holmes put together a pretty nice little NFL career. Yea Ricky washed out because of pot and that is disappointing, Cedric plays like and pansy, and who knows what we have with Selvin at this point. But hey that's four pretty recent guys in the league out of Texas.

I still think you are missing the point it was Tatum who said that regarding why he chose to go to Okie light instead of Texas. He is the one who said he didn't want to compete for the job ( he grew up in Texas and was an admitted Texas fan).

Well, in their defense, Tater had a good game or two. I remember him lighting up the Raiders. Well, as much as a RB can in the Martz defense.

Bly has kinda helped win us one game... folks at the game talked about how well he covered Evans but he still got burnt a couple times, luckily they just suck too much to exploit it. That's about the extent that he's really been anything special. I definitely wouldn't be calling it Portis-Bailey Round 2. Luckily we suck at rush defense too much to really know if we suck on pass defense.

I never said that Texas was running back U. I was just pointing out the reason Tatum didn't go to Texas even though he grew up a fan of the team. At this point Ricky even with his pot problems has more value that Tatum Bell and had a better NFL career. You also left our Preist Holmes just to throw in a more recent Longhorn.

Check this out...

7097 rushing yds
1899 receiving yds
47 TDs

Who's stats are those, Ricky Williams' or Tater's?

I'll give you a hint. Projected to the same number of games, Tater's stats are
4403 rushing yds
631 receiving yds
24 TDs

Only a homer or a fool would make the comparison between Ricky Williams and Tater and since noone here is really a Tater fan, I'm not sure which category you fall in.

I wasn't comparing those two. When I posted it without the line, it looked all screwed up. The only thing I was comparing were the good backs each school produced. BTW, Project Tatum's YPC with the # of carries Rickey had and see who comes out on top. :thanku:
