OK, game 2 with the trade deadline passing us by. You as the AOCICOOFTD which you know in the Broncos screwed up coaching chain stands for - "Assistant Offensive Coordinator In Charge Of Offense For The Day." You are right under Shanahan, next to Heimerdinger, definitely over Denison, and working next to Sundquist's office - got it?

Anyway, your mission is to get a new toy for Cutler that will help the offense. You can only work with a realistic trade of a "B" player, or a second day draft pick. Who would you get, and why do we need him? How would you use him to help the offense?

So, target your player, state the trade terms (realistic please), and tell how you think they could help.

I'll start, my payer is one I watched in my hometown of Tulsa, OK. His name is Garrett Mills. He was drafted by the Pats, and now with the Vikings.

#45
Garrett
Mills
Position: Tight End
Height: 6-1
Weight: 235
NFL Years: 2
College: Tulsa
Hometown: Jenks, OK

His senior year stats were an NCAA record for tight ends:
2005 (Sr) 13 87 1235 14.2 9 66

Over 1200 yards receiving his senior year, soft hands, incredible route runner. He has been switched to FB by both teams because they don't know how to use him.
I say, use him like Chris Cooley was used by Washington the last couple years. He can block ok, but is better at contact, then release routes. You can line him up in the slot, or even at wideout to create mismatches. An easy close target for Cutler to dump to. He can make big things happen after the catch.

I say, a sixth or seventh rounder would do. Kid could be a weapon, and give Jay some better options up close. Great mismatches with this type of player.

Kris Jenkins wouldda been the guy, our run D would've improved 50%. If the Saints had held on to beat the Panthers Sunday - after Jenkins had publicly called out his teammates during the week - methinks he wouldda been available. But John Fox won't part with him now, after his rant resulted in a win. The Panthers are pretty good actually... if they can get some QB play somewhere, they might be dangerous.

Grady Jackson is still a Falcon, but they prolly don't like him around in light of the litigation ... Grady ???

Jeremiah Trotter would be a bandaid at best ... a Simeon Rice short-term damaged goods patch, I say NO there.

I don't see any current trades worth making ...

We shouldda traded two #1s for Patrick Willis draft day, cut Gold, and traded next year's #2 for Kris Jenkins.
We would NOT have Jarvis Moss now, or next year's #1, but we WOULD have that extra #3 we gave up to get Moss. And Willis and Jenkins would be starting at our current two weakest positions ... along with DJ at Will. We would be 4-1. (We'd still have Dumervil, Crowder and Marcus Thomas too).

I also wanted to sign Gibril Wilson as a RFA in the offseason, and now he's kicking ass. I think the Giants locked him up. Oh well. Deon Grant is playing pretty well up here - I wanted him too as an UFA. Either of these two would've patched the gaping hole Sam Brandon (and the Hamza and Lynch injuries) left ...

Saying 'I told you so' is such sweet sorrow ...

Hargrove ... even with Nate gone, TE is a position of strength imo ???

Don't call him a TE, keep him at fulllback. If you are familiar with the Cooley FB / X-back position the Redskins used in 2005-2006, you would know what I am looking for. Block, release, three yard route (run for three or four more). Line him up in the slot, he draws a linebacker, not a safety. Then, it's quick slants and outs. Cooley had a great run at this, I guess it was more chemistry with Brunell.
Call him a FB, but the defense has to respect him and cover him. Cecil just isn't being used that way, and KJ was a better receiver.

He's a FB, and it would be a huge mismatch and safety valve. Cutler needs both.

Cutler needs to work through his progressions more and not lock into his, "Go to guy of the day".

You guys are making this way too hard. Do you see a #2 guy, you would add to this offense or what? What ways would you help Cutler if you were OC for a day?

In the offseason, I had my eyes on this guy:
19 Ernest Wilford
WR
6-4
223 lbs
1/14/1979
Richmond, VA
Virginia Tech
4th Year

He was a kind of clutch guy on third downs for the Jags last year (in the few games I watched). I think he could do a lot better with a better QB. Anyway, now he's just too much like Brandon Marshall to trade for. But, if Stokely keeps getting injured, he would be an awesome slot guy. Good blocker too.

I think the guy who might help Cutler the most (Scheffler) just returned to the starting lineup...

In addition to that, I think it would help the offense a lot if Rod was able to come back...his veteran leadership is what the team needs most right now.
