View Full Version : How big is the loss of Sam Brandon?

I've been thinking lately of how big Sam Brandon's absence has hurt the defense.

Granted, he's not an All-Pro or anything, but he was the "man" covering the TEs and did relatively a good job of covering them last year.

I am interested to see how Denver's D will match up w/ Gates in Sunday's game w/o a guy like Brandon.

Am I making a big deal of Brandon's absence?

You're definitely right about him covering the TE's. I don't know the numbers, but it wouldn't surprise me if our play on TE's has declined. He is missed.

Brandon has been a loss, but the loss of Warren is 10X that.

Yea, pretty much we can blame anything on how bad we are on D

It hurts a lot ... but with Hamza injured, it's tougher to gauge. Let's see how he plays before we cry too much over Sam.

Yeah I can't believe that Shanny blew out Brandon's knee and then told the trainers to make sure he had a setback in his rehab. Chalk up another one to the "Mastermind."

When Brandon and Fergy where on this deffense last season we were one of the best Defense's EVER! Look it up

When both him and Fergy went down we fell apart...agian all you have to do is look it up.

Brandon was our TE blanket, something that was hurting us for years was finally addressed.. Now that he is gone, well all you have to do is watch tape of what TE's do and will continue to do agianst us from here on out.

Wow what a great blast from the peanut gallery. How long did it take for you come up with that formula? All day probably. By the way you taking a pot shot at me doesn't make Brandon/Cox/Abdullah any better players. They are scrubs and bottom roster feeders. They aren't the reason we are losing or the a way to
start winning again. If we can't get Lynch back on the field we are toast. Also It looks to me like Ferguson just isn't close to being the same player anymore. Go ahead and think that Broncos have players on the roster right now that can right this defense they just don't. Outside of Bailey, Bly, Lynch none of them would be starters on the good defenses in the NFL.

you do realize that it takes the whole roster to complete a season. certain players are merely stop gaps while others return to 100%. players like Brandon, Cox and Abdullah are what helped keep the broncos successful. now i might agree that they aren't teh best, but bottom roster feeders? gimmie a break. I'm not brandons biggest fan, but i wasn't a big fan of fergie either. Cox is a young player that is improving.

any besides and moron can come in here and just say someone is a scrub...gimme a reason...shoot even cheifs fans have better takes than just making that comment.

Cox is improving? Every time i see him he is missing a tackle on special teams, or being easily blocked. Oh yeah and he was one that bailed early on that onside kick vs Raiders. That was just bad fundamentals on that play. Cox also shows poor form when making tackles. When he has played safety he seems to lack good football instincts, something you can't teach. He's rarely in the right spot, has poor ball skills when he is. Brandon was actually a decent 3rd safety but like I said him being gone is not what is keeping us from being a good defense. Abdullah just seems like a really average player all around to me. Not that big, not that fast, not that great a football player. Not that I have a problem with religion but he makes about as many plays on the field as he eats burgers during Ramadan. Note to Ryan Harris, start eating asap!!!

You're looking like you're going to eat those words soon. Especially once Hamza becomes a starter.

In terms of covering TE's brandon was great.

Abdullah looks promising though.

I was thinking about this last week when were playing at KC.

I think its a big deal losing him, we can put him on a TE and not have to worry.

He will be huge for us next season when we are healthy.

How old is this thread?
Have we really been beaten by a TE this year? Stopping the run is what has killed us.
Of the players "lost" last off season- Wilson, Warren, Ekuban, Williams, Chukwurah. Brandon would rank 5 or 6 on the list.
