Wow, lots of bandwagon fans out there. Look at the rise of the colts over the past few years. I saw a Colts fan in a bar a few weeks ago, wearing his newly bought manning jersey. I swear to god it was the first time I've seen on in a bar.

Yep, there are more band wagoners here in socal.

A lot of Steeler, SD and Indy fans.

Before the Steelers won the SB, you didn't see that many.

Now you see them every where.

This certainly indicates bandwagon fans. Denver's popularity dropped quite a bit after the Super Bowl years. Also, St. Louis had the height of its popularity right after the Super Bowl.

surprising to see San Fran stay so high over the past few years. Their fans have had nothing to cheer about

Living in AZ - folks are from all over the country so you see lots of support for several teams.

But you would rarely (if ever) see Colts logos in Phoenix...until the last 2 years or so.

Broncos, Steelers, Cowboys and Packers have always had strong following in AZ though.. At least over the 14 years I had been here. Every other team, depends on how successful or not they are at the time. Phoenix is bandwagon central.

I have more respect for fans when I see a Browns logo or something more obscure on their car than whoever is currently media darlings.

Its even worse with baseball. Its all about the Sox and Yankees out here which doesnt make any sense from both a regional standpoint or the fact the D-Backs have been, for the most part, pretty successful since day 1.

I saw so many sox hats after they won the world series. All of the sudden 90% of the people I met had been waiting their whole lives for the Sox to win.

But yea the colt fan cracked me up. He was decked out in some gear too. New hat new Manning jersey. The whole deal. I just chuckled, I mean I guess it possible he grew up a colts fan, I just hadn't seen any before.

For all I'm concerned, I am glad those fans are gone. They can stay with the Colts or Patriots or whoever else. We don't want them here if they can't stay through the down years(if you can even call them down years). Props to the Cowboys, Niners and Packers fans for staying true.

Green Bay #1 from 2002-2005, WTF?

The funny thing is that cowboy fans in Dallas aren't really all that great of fans. They are some of the biggest bandwagoners out there. You can buy two or 4 game ticket packages at the beginning of every season. Its not like they have a wait list for season tickets. Packer fans are probably one of the most loyal.

Dallas fans are just as you describe them. They only pay attention when the team is any good, and the bandwagon is driven by the local media, who only put in any work to report when the team is good.

Green Bay #1 from 2002-2005, WTF?

I'm guessing that has more to do with the polled individuals having to list TWO teams as their favorite. People are usually passionate about their favorite and for the second team? Wtf why not Green Bay

Green Bay and Dallas must've been tied in 2003. They both have a 1 without the "=" indicator to show a tie. And there is no #2 in that column.

I noticed that about Dallas in general. Just look at the Mavericks.

I guess my question is...WHY is Dallas so f'ing popular?

You'd think it would be the Giants or something, since New York is the center of the universe.

The Cowboys have been the bell-cow franchise for the NFL since the 70's.

I'm not sure it is all bandwagoners. I may be a Bronco fan year after year but when they actually *win*, I'm getting the commemorative stuff which probably counts as team merchandizing. I don't but stuff every year. I try to wait for a good reason to buy new gear.

BTW, I do detest the frontrunners who go out and buy new gear the minute a team changes their uniforms. All that does is encourage the league to make more and more changes because they know you lemmings will shell out the money to stay in fashion. Give me the traditional look that hasn't been updated in decades. You will find, in most cases, those are the franchises who are the most successful over the years, not the fashion plates who switch uniforms every few years.

interesting

Over half (55%) of Baby Boomers (those aged 43-61) follow football, making it the largest generation of football followers. Just under half (49%) of both Gen Xers (those aged 31-42) and Matures (those aged 62 and older) follow football but just 42 percent of Echo Boomers (those aged 18-30) follow the sport

Cowboy fans = Yankees fans = Lakers fans.

Whenever you see somone pimping at least two of those teams, you know they are insecure lowlifes who have to be on a winning team to compensate for their own loser pathetic lives. You're not a real fan if you aren't there for the down years and these guys typically aren't.

I'd never heard that term either. Try "Boomer spawn".

Makes more sense than "Generation X" "Generation Y" and "Generation Zygote."

LOL! They just showed LeBron James wearing a Yankees cap and said he's a Cowboy fan too. Proves my point. Now I know he'll never win an NBA title. Frontrunner.

Odd. James must be out of his mind to stay in Cleveland then. The Cavs clearly arent the Knicks, Lakers, or Celtics.

Cowboy fans stay strong just ask AZ fans trying to get a ticket to their own stadium! The staples of Packers, Steelers and Bears have a national fan base for years. Denver is more regional which is fine compared to teams like San Deigo who is one of the biggest bandwagon teams in the league. Not from around the country like the Colts but right in their backyard.

Indy is the perfect bandwagon example ... the last 7 years: 27 - 27 - 23 - 27 - 11 - 9 - 3 - 2

Sophisticated and loyal fans, classy fans. Same for Denver, but smaller core population fan base.
