From my fantasy league news...

WR Domenik Hixon signed by Giants; WR Anthony Mix waived

2007-10-03 16:33

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -The New York Giants signed receiver and return specialist Domenik Hixon and waived receiver Anthony Mix on Wednesday.

Hixon was waived by the Denver Broncos on Tuesday after playing in their first four games. He was the only player to return a kickoff and punt for the Broncos this season, averaging 22.8 yards on 12 kickoff returns and 4.6 yards on seven punt returns. He also had two special teams tackles, but did not catch a pass.

Hixon is the player that Buffalo Bills tight end Kevin Everett tried to tackle on a kickoff return in the season opener.

Everett suffered a life-threatening spinal-cord injury on the play when he ducked his head and his helmet hit Hixon high on the left shoulder and the side of the helmet. Everett has since shown signs of a strong recovery.

Mix spent the 2006 season on the Giants' practice squad. He made the team in training camp and played in the first four games, making three catches.

Hes gonna return 10 punts and kicks for TDs with the Giants. This is our karma.

I expected that. Commissioner Gordon has been coveting Hixon as the only viable replacement for an aging Batman.

Another botched draft pick. We can talk X's and O's til we are blue in the face. Bottom line is we pick up an awful lot of guys who should be making sub sandwiches or laying tile instead of being 4th round draft picks of the Broncos.

Bring in Marty S to do some drafting. Maybe Shanny could figure out what to do with them because Marty sure can't.

Imagine if he starts producing there, it would tell one and only one thing that we already know... Our STs suck...

Anyone wonder why Hixon was snatched up so quickly, but Clark was not?

Natural move for Hixon.
Denver is just not big enough of a market for him. Nike is already filming his next commercial (he plays both Steven Jackson and Brains Out)

Didn't the Giants pick up Watts at some point? Where is he now?

I have a this feeling that Hixon is going to turn out to be a pretty solid player over there....

Unlike most here I think Hixons problems came from the fact that our Special teams (coaching as well) suck. And no im not talking about the fact when he fumbled (that was all on him) im talking about the fact that he could not get past the 20 and things like that..

there has to be blocking to get up the field and quite frankly i haven't seen a whole lot from special teams in years so putting all the blame on the return man is absurd

Morgan got up field pretty well. I guess they just blocked good for him because they like him better. It's not the blocking.

I hear he is going to be backing up Eli Manning as well becoming their #1 WR and Mayor of NYC

He left before I could say I'm sorry.

I disagree. Special Teams 101 says that returners MUST be able to make the first man miss....and then the blocking takes over after that. In all of Hixon's returns so far this season, I've only seen him make the first man miss twice. Not coincidentally, one of them resulted in his only good return last week against Indy. The rest sucked.

Giants front office: Hello how can I help you?
Hixon: yeah I'm the guy who's famous for almost paralyzing Carl Everett, you had to have seen the game it was just down the way in Buffalo
Giants front office: That was you wow! We have someone famous on the line.
Hixon: Yeah I was just wondering if you could find me a roster spot. The Broncos just cut me, some BS about how I have to produce and I can't get the job done. I don't know why I'm so picked on they said I ran the ball like I wore a skirt.
Giants front office: Well you sound like you whine enough, but I have a question for you.
Hixon: Shoot
Giants front office: Well lets say you have something go terribly go wrong and you are extremely upset, will you be able to have a pouty face like your about to cry.
Hixon: Yeah
Giants front office: OK so this is where it gets tricky. So now say everything is going great and your winning and playing well. Can you still have that same pouty face. Cuz we only sign you if you look like you can cry at any given time.
Hixon: Yeah I can take care of that I mean I run like a puss, i'm sure I can act like one to.
Giants front office: That's all we ask! We'll cut someone right away and have you signed within the hour

Brandon Marshall and Dumervil were 4th round picks that same year.

What's your expectation? Every 4th rounder turns out to be an all-pro?

I checked out one of the Giants boards. They're having a
meltdown about waiving Mix, but think they're solving their KO and
punt return problems with Hixon. Here's a sample:

"I loved Mix and am really sad to see him go, BUT I watch alot of Denver's games, and Hixon actually is a very good player on ST's. Fast as hell, made good cuts, and isn't afraid to hit on kickoff and punt returns. Hate to see Mix go, but we are replacing him with someone who can provide us some explosiveness in the return game."

Hilarious!

If they can block from him, it will make a world of difference.

If they could block, I doubt that they would've even been interested in Hixon.

I'm just saying, if you block on ST just about anyone can run for some yards.

You're right, but they drafted Sinorice Moss partly to return kicks and punts, and (I may be wrong here) he is probably as fast as Hixon.

Well then Hixon isn't going anywhere past the 30.
