I think the recent frustration has less to do with the two losses and more to do with no one really having a decent guage on where the team is at right now. We beat two lower echelon teams and lost to two respectable ball clubs.

That being said, take an objective look:

Right now, the AFCS seems to be the best division in football and thankfully the AFCW seems to be one of the worst.

Does anyone think anyone in the rest of our division can manage to beat the Colts? It's just another L on their records that we already got out of our way.

Luckily, this season, Denver doesn't need to come out of the gate swinging. The Broncos can manage their growing pains, make any possible adjustments for steady improvement and hope for a home playoff game in january when things start to mesh, on the simple virtue of winning what seems to be a weak divison.

Who else will win it?
The Raiders? I won't even dignify that with a comment.
The Chiefs? Their defense does look solid, but we can continue to bank on Herm Edwards to continue the depreciation of that ballclub.
The Chargers? Despite their slow start, I still think they're the most viable threat provided their coaching staff gains a clue. It won't be this weekend and after Sunday we'll have a 2.5 game lead, and most of the way through the hardest stretch of the schedule.

In short, regardless of problems, the football gods have handed down golden opportunities and it's going to be fun to watch and see if the younger guys can grasp them.

I think the Donkeys will win the division (I reserve the right to call them Donkey's while they continue to play like jackasses), but that means little. I think our division is so poor that this might be cause for changing the playoff seeding rules that winning your division means little, you should actually have a winning record.

8-8 wins our division this year. Thats how****ty it is.

I think we'll do better than 8-8, but not by much, and still win the division.

We'll see how that works out though. Regardless it'll be great for Cutler to get some post-season experience but if this team can actually get it together down the stretch we could make some noise.

Thankfully a division title would mean a home game for the wild card round, that should help, but its looking pretty glum for anyone who makes it out of the WC round since the early forcast points to a trip to Foxboro or Indy. Either team can run you out of the stadium before you know what happened.

though i hate to say it, dont disregard the Faide.

Lane Kiffin has revitalized their offense and with Daunte Culpepper leading the charge, they are a dangerous squad.

Kiffin reminds me of a young Shanahan and young Gruden. Hes a young Mastermind in training.

The beauty of this season and our division woes is: who cares? Even if we're taking losses, as long as we can learn from the mistakes and make progression fixing those mental errors, we have the talent to be absolutely lethal when it all comes together. If 6-10 wins the ****ing division, I don't care. Learn and get ready for January.

I agree. Their D isn't that bad either. We barely beat them.

unfortunately I still think we need to get to 10-6 to win this division and I'm not sure we can get there

only a matter of time before they unplug Norv's headset in San Diego and let LT start making the plays up in the huddle

Prior to the season Cutler was asked what his goals for the upcoming season were and he said something to the effect of "get in to the playoffs and see if we can make some noise when we get there." I think that this is an attainable and fair minded goal.

It is a huge game this week. If we win, this really puts SD down in the division and I like our chances going into the bye week against Pitt. This week is going to be the biggest game of the year to date(obviously). Stop the run this week and we win going away...

Nobody (outside of Raider Nation) wants to admit that the Raiders are getting better, but I agree with this statement. They picked apart Miami pretty well.

the way i see the rest of the season playing out is we destroy san diego this weekend. Then go 1-1 against the steelers and greenbay not sure wich team we beat or lose to. We then man-handle detroit. followed by a tough game with the chiefs. then another tough win against tenesee. I see a loss at chicago but i think its going to be a close game again. The rest of the schedule is kinda up in the air right now i think. But im almost positive were going to end up going 12-4 or 11-5.

Yeah we will not be competing with either Indy or NE this year.

Next year maybe, if we cut Gold and either move DJ to Will or preferably, trade him for a smarter player.

Offensively next year, I dont believe the '85 Bears defense will be able to stop us.

WOW.....there's definitely a slot waiting for you in the "optimist" thread. Most of them are already conceding an 8-8 or 9-7 type season.

11-5 or 12-4? Man, I wish my work had a happy hour today....

I think we can beat SD, but only if LT continues his slump. Steelers seem to be rejuvenated, and by some weird alignment with the stars, the old Favre seems to be back. Lions upset the Bears, so they don't appear to be the same team as last year. So what we thought would be an easy schedule prior to the season may actually be quite difficult. But I hope you're right with the 11-5 or 12-4 prediction.

On another note, is there anybody here that DOESN'T think that the AFCCG will be Indy vs. NE?

Every year it looks like its gonna be Indy vs. NE and most of the time a solid team sneaks in there in place.

Steelers seem to be rejuvenated . . .

They lost to the Cardinals . . .

Good point, but part of that was because Kurt Warner had a great game (er, half game).

And which solid team would that be this season?

I get your point, though. A team can get hot at the end of the season (ala, Pittsburgh 2005).

I'm not gonna reveal all my secrets, but it's pretty safe to say that the #1 and #2 seeds at the end of September almost never match up perfectly to the teams playing in the AFC and NFC Championships in January.
