The Colt's beat us. The 86 Bear's defense and the 2001 Raven defense combined couldn't stop Manning. The only way to beat him is match him point for point.

Maybe we're just not as good as we thought we'd be?

Thats not really true. beating the colts is all about being able to collapse the pocket and getting peyton to move laterally. Again, this is easier said than done, but its the reason why the Pats and Titans have reasonable success. They have penetrating DT's that can get Peyton out of his comfort zone.

Let's not get carried away... The Titans managed to hold him in check and they are a long ways from the '85 bears.

No but the Pats and Chargers and Cowboys and Steelers and Texans, and Titans could.

Yeah, I'd like to know the Titan's record against Manning over the last 10 years.

I'll give you the Patriot's for obvious reasons, but I think the Colt's have figured the Pat's out. They will beat them again this year.

It's the NFL, jesus! Like the Colt's are going to go 64-0 over the last 4 years? Of course they are going to lose a couple.

Dont know about that. Manning is beatable but you have to apply pressue on him. New England, Pitt, Jax, and Tenn have had success against Manning by doing just that.

I am just saying, if those teams could stop him, I would be pretty sure the 85 Bears could also.

Defensively I believe the Pats have a better D and Brady can match play with Manning. I give the game to the Pats.

We lost because Indy scored more points then we did. Just tryin' to simplify things.

So technically with Bates' defense we'll never beat Manning as his DT's aren't employed to collapse the pocket.:D

The one common denominator in beating Manning is the defenses have played a 3-4. Steelers, Chargers, Patriots, Texans have all employed a 3-4 in the past and had success against Manning.

I think a lot of cred goes to the Indy O line. It's so hard to get pressure on him.

I'm guessing that is probably true.

Every team hopes to play well and pull off W's every week but a person had to be delusional if they were going on the road to play the Colts and didn't think it was highly likely that they would take a loss. The only thing that suprised me about that game is how many fans on this board seemed surprised by the outcome.

Seriously....I'm thinking that most here thought the 10.5 pt spread was just a result of the infamous "east coast bias".

We lost because....
We kicked field goals instead of scoring touchdowns in the first half
Our special teams really do suck at what they do
We can't put pressure on an open wound let alone Payton Manning
Our front 4 and linebackers really to suck at this point and time
I believe Shanahan and Bates were totally outcoached
Indianapolis made great halftime adjustments and we didn't

Do I need to say more?

Uh part of that is not entirely true. Even if you do colapse the pocket, Manning is very good about shifting his feet and body away and still being able to rifle a perfect pass. He did that to us yesterday on a few occasions where we did get pressure. Manning even threw a corner pocket TD on the run with Rice breathing down his neck.

That said, I think the Bears D and the Ravens D and even that Tampa D could have made more of a game of it then our D did. Too many other vaiables to say who would win. They'd have to play.

Exactly. Not to mention the friggin' Texans, who played them closer than we did.

It's like people have never watched football beyond this season, and whatever PS3 Madden they've played.

Why we lost

Because Denver gives up an average of 181 rush yards per game? Just barely better than the last place winless Fins?

That's wierd, I thought the Colts were late year's league champions, and were undefeated this year, and had given up only one sack on Manning this year. So we should have just killed them with a "rookie" QB, a rebuilt D-line, and new player all over the roster?

I expect our team to be really, really good but they are still learning and Cutler is still growing. Let's wait until the playoffs to figure all this out. We lost for a lot of reasons, but the Colts are a better team right now.
