Because he's playing like he's high.
That last Indy TD, I counted at least three occasions where he blew coverage, got owned in the run D. Not to mention that first TD pass from Manning was on Gold as well.
We know this guy can't tackle, but if he can't cover then why the hell is he on the field?

Honestly, I just can't understand why he and Dominique Hixon have starting jobs.
They're just terrible.

You could tell right away when Peyton saw Gold was isolated on Clark right now that it would be six.

And Gold can't just blame the DL either. I understand if Gold has blockers in his face but man, I look at this guy and his coverage has sucked today.
The ONE lone play where he did manage to hold coverage against Clark in the 2 minute warning when it was 3rd and 5, it was a poor pass by Manning that was behind Clark which is why it wasn't a first down.
I'm done with this guy. I defended him in the past because he had coverage abilities but he can't do that anymore either! The guy looks like he could care less out there now that Al Wilson isn't there to make him look good.
About the only thing I have seen Gold do is his customary charge into a pile after the tackle has been made.
Guess who just gave up A SECOND TD TO CLARK?
You suck Gold.

If I'm an OC and my team is facing the Broncos, I gameplan for the Gold matchup. I tell my QB, whoever Gold is covering is your hot receiver.

His so-called coverage abilities were an attribute that was talked about but rarely actually witnessed. Basically, he could hold his own against second and third tier TEs, but good ones eat him alive. Three interceptions in his entire fricking career and his apologists around here talked about him like he was Tom Jackson. What a sad self-deluded joke.
Resigning this bum was the worst thing Shanahan ever did.

So far in the game Gold's stat line:
Allowed two TDs to Clark.
Three first downs through him on sloppy tackles (that I've counted).
I understand if a player gets beat or someone just makes a great play. But goddamnit this is simple fundamentals we're talking about. Just square up and tackle.
Champ has been putting on a tackling clinic while Gold has been punked out with his lame arm tackles.
And it gets worse next week with LT and Gates

The D switched up coverage on Clark from Gold to Fergy then Champ.
So much for our coverage LBer.
I can't wait for the draft next year to replace this loser. It's glaring how weak our run D has been without Lynch.
