Time for Rice to start cooking
By Bill Williamson

It was two days before he signed with the Broncos, and Simeon Rice was gathering information while vacillating over signing with Denver or St. Louis.

Rice asked a reporter which NFL team gives the Broncos the most fits. Easy question.

The Indianapolis Colts. Who else?

"Well, I can help," Rice said. "If I come, I can help the Broncos against the Colts. That's what I do. I help a team get over the hump."

Well, it's time for Rice to do his thing as the Broncos play at the Colts on Sunday.

Reminded of his words this week, Rice smiled. He is sticking to his claim. "That's why I'm here," he said.

Rice believes he can be a difference-maker for Denver. That's why he was signed six days before the start of the season. The Broncos have had trouble with the Colts because they have not had enough defense to handle Peyton Manning, who has thrown 12 touchdown passes and only one interception in his past five games against Denver.

Rice, 33, offers the potential of explosive pass-rushing pressure in a part-time role. Still coming back from a shoulder injury, Rice has played in each game and logged a season-high 37 plays against Jacksonville on Sunday. However, he is still looking for the 122nd sack of his NFL career and his first in a Broncos uniform.

The Broncos and Rice would love to see it come against Manning.

It's going to be hard to beat the Colts. Broncos need to be playing at top level to beat these guys.

1. Score Touchdowns
2. Stop Run and Pass

I think you're probably right. That's exactly what leads to every Broncos loss, they don't score enough touchdowns and they let opponents run and pass. If we changed both of those things, we'd probably win more.

What? I think that Denver loses because the other team scores more points. Brilliant!!!!!

The key to this game is to get pressure with the front 4 maybe a late 5th. We need to run the ball, control the clock, get pressure on Manning, and get their offense off the field on 3rd downs. Point Blank.

i like it! i love seeing him on the other side of dumervil. i believe we will get to manning and he will max protect against us so that he can go with wayne. rice still gets off the ball quick and dumervil is quick as well. that means they will be able to get him if he comes out of the pocket

Make sure Larry Johnson doesn't get his hands on these secrets as well or he will be unstopable.

Keys to winning:
1. Put points on board
2. Get to Manning, and fast(Rice, Dumervil)
3. Don't get burned(Bailey, Bly)
4. Stop the run
5. Error free
6. Stay healthy

Stopping the run on defense and not ****ing up our own offensive opportunities with stupid mistakes would be a start.

Have to get to Peyton, that's the bottom line. All the corners in the world won't mean crap.

Have to get Manning, no light pressure or near misses.

He has to be sacked and has to be hit.

Would like to see some fire in the D's eyes for this game. They need to get fired up. Take some Red Bulls or something..........

I actually took that from his book, "How to win a football game".

Guys guys guys!! You're not listening!

We have to get the ball in their endzone....and we have to stop them from getting the ball in our endzone.

This is the key to success, this is the key to VICTORY!

P.S. Broncos pls hire me, kthx

I would hope to GOD that if I was ever a paid writer of any kind I would avoid an elementary level play on words like that one...

Look for Gonzalez (The new Slot), Addai, and Clark to have a huge game against us, unless Manning really goes after Bly, as we know he will try him a few times. I just hope we somehow win this, don't care how.

I hope Bates and Slowik did account for Gonzalez in practice, cause that is what I feel where Manning would comfortably go.

Hit him early and often even without a sack early and you will get in his head. He is not a machine as some of you think he is. We beat him several years ago at INDY with a ball control running game that we should be able to reproduce. However and obviously I do not know if we can reproduce the pressure we applied in that game.

If Rice steps up maybe. Doom will be around the ball we know this. We desperately need another DT. I still cannot believe we gave away Warren. It's like quitting your job.....you don't unless you have something better. Is Gordon better ? I don't think so.

The problem is -- I can't remember the last time Denver played at the top of its game -- a complete game.

We have most of the parts --- and we are seeing positive glimpses -- of what is possible -- but we have yet to put it all together -- and win with authority.
