Rumor - Hamilton to IR, Al Wilson ready to play
Thu Sep 27 07:35 PDT

This is about as unconfirmed as it gets, but I thought it was worth mentioning. One of the admins/mods over at BroncosFreak posted a note on the Fox Sports Network Rocky Mountain program he watched last night, called Football Playbook.

The first big note is that Ben Hamilton will be placed on IR, ending his season. This doesn’t surprise me - what was once supposed to be a one to two week ordeal has dragged on for months, and today’s NFL just doesn’t mess around with head trauma. I would applaud the team for the move.

The other huge, gigantic note is that Al Wilson may be healthy enough to play. This is all something I like to call quintuple hearsay… Broncos forum admin says that tv program says that Bill Romanowski spoke to John Mobley who spoke to Al Wilson who said he could play. Did you follow?

The program also noted that another friend of Wilson’s said he would like nothing better than to return to the Broncos, and not another team.

Lord knows our linebackers and defense as a whole could use Al… our offensive line could definitely use Ben too, but I’ve just had a gut feeling that he was done… again, this is as far from confirmed as possible but is something to keep an eye on.

If Al was 100% healthy, I would love it if he came back. But, he was awful in his last start. Actually painful to watch how bad he was against Cincinnati.

Well, that sucks losing Hamilton for the year. I was really hoping for him to come back.

As for Al, I would love to have him back so long as the doctors say it's ok for him to play.

Get Al back , shift DJ to weakside and hand Gold his walking papers.

I still think DJ can hold down the Mike fine and will get better and better, but Al is the man.

No chance. Work it the Warren way thus softens the cap hit next year. Restructure his signing bonus next offseason then trade him. He would still have late round value.

It sounds great to have Al back in the line-up, but I would be really surprised if he was in playing shape anytime this season. I don't know how much work he's had during his lay-off / recovery period.

I would be shocked if he was anywhere near playing shape. I would hate for his health to be jeapordized in order for a possible quick fix for this D.

Even discounting the rumor value, I just popped wood in my pants.

Even if he's not healthy and plays poorly compared to his former pro bowl level, having him there to shift the D and at minimum be PRESENT in his gaps would be a massive, MASSIVE upgrade over our current situation.

I would love to have Al back... but a couple things here... he probably isn't in shape physically to do the position. I imagine you have to be busting it in the weight room and with back issues, I just don't think he could do that. Still, we all can dream.

I was worried when Ben got into his second week after the concussion and he still was out. I just had a bad feeling about it.

Ben hamilton ouch i kinda figured and its a bummer but i would rather people take extreme caution over trying to help out his team. and all the fan fare.

Take your time boys denver will be here

Dont get me wrong I'd love nothing more than Al Wilson to come back but can you honestly see Shanny admitting he was wrong by bringing Al back into the fold after 3 games and moving DJ outside???

From my memory Shanahan is the type of person who's sticks with something regardless of how bad it looks in the beginning.

Shanny did not get rid of al because he was displeased he got rid of him because his neck was bad off career ending possibly. I am sure shanny will take him back if he is healthy no problems whatsoever

What was Shanny wrong about? Wilson had a serious injury and there was no way to know if he could play. We still don't know; right now this is just an unsubstantiated rumor. Keeping Al around at his inflated salary was simply not a reasonable option.

A-dubb coming back? Nah can't see that happing. His neck failed multiple tests. One doctor told him one hit could end his walking days!

But let's say he does come back.

A: Is he in football shape?

B: Can he learn the scheme in a few weeks?

C: What happens with the remaining LB postions?

D: Is it worth the risk?

I don't care if we have the worst Defense in the History of the NFL for the next some odd games, under no circumstances do I want to see Al Wilson in a Bronco uniform (hell anyones Uni) this year..

The last thing in the world that I want to see is Al carted off the field and eventually told that he will never be able to use his limbs agian.

For the love of GOD AL give your neck another year to heal, before you even think about thinking about having a comeback.

Atwater His Ass

I would hate to see Al come back and then taken off the field via ambulance ala Everett in Buffalo. Not worth the risk. I hope with his competitive fire that Al can step back and realize that his football days are over and move on with the next chapter of his life.

Far from it.
Drafting Cutler to replace Plummer right after playing in the AFC championship game says he looks ahead and is prepared to ditch a QB who he championed.
Go back to Brister's replacement by Griese. He saw a QB stinking it up in pre-season and quickly decided to play SOB.......reversing his decision to make Brister the starter.
I think if anything, Shanahan might be accused of pulling the trigger too quickly sometimes. JMO

If we were to take on Al Wilson, I'd really like to not only get our physicians look at him, but an outside doctor as well.

I would love to have him back. That toughness that stopped that 4th & 1 run against the Raiders in the snow (you guys know which one I'm talking about) is something we could use.

HOWEVER, I don't want to see him leave the field in the stretcher, and I don't want to see his life ****ed up badly due to him wanting to play and us being desperate.

If he's healthy and the team doesn't want him then there's something really wrong with the team.
If he could come back healthy I'd send Gold's tiny ass to the bench, move DJ to weakside and put Al in the middle.

Well bringing Al Wilson back isn't going to fix anything, he isn't what made him great here in Denver anymore. He suffered too many injuries for one and there is a high probability he gets injured again. Like some have stated before me, the last thing I want to see is Al Wilson carted off again like last year. Secondly if we move DJ again then DJ isn't going to come back once his contract is up and he is going to walk and go to another team and kick ass for them. It isn't fun being shuffled around every year and not being able to settle into one position. That's why Bates said he isn't going to make a change at that position this year.

BroncoStampede

Alot of you guys are saying he couldnt wrap up near the end of the season...No kidding he had a screwed up neck. He shouldnt have even been playing at that point, now his career is over.

I hope he is ready to play and it wouldnt pose a threat to his health. If he is ready the Broncos have to get that contract done asap. I think its very questionable for them to try and trade him to the Giants at the last minute like that and send him out there and embarrass him. I would be surprised if the Broncos trainers didnt know he had serious neck problems.

Shannon Sharp, he made the mistake of not resigning him. Still he brought him back no problem.

He didn't think Sharpe was worth the money the Ravens paid him. That was a pure financial decision plus Shannon was still 100% when he came back a few years later. Not 4-5 months later as would be the case with Wilson.

Look my point is I dont think Shanahan's about to give up on his DJ project after just 3 games and that's exactly what he'd be doing if he brought Wilson back in.

Ah, gotcha. Well, I personally think it is too early to call the DJ experiment a **** up. It's only been three games, and he has not been has awful as some suggest. In any case has probably played better than Al did the last half of '06. Even if Al gets clearance to play again, I am not optimistic we would ever again see him playing at a high level. I'd love to be wrong, though.

I still think DJ can hold down the Mike fine and will get better and better, but Al is the man.I agree with most of this. Al is no longer the man, but DJ would be a huge upgrade over Gold on the weak side and Webster has proven more than an adequate starter.

DJ, Al, Webster > Gold, DJ, Webster for the sole fact that gold is off the field.
