OK, you have to be both a Rockies and a Broncos fan to honestly answer this. If the Rockies HAD to win the game Sunday to make the playoffs, and only 1 team could win Sunday, which team would you want to win?
Broncos against Peyton or the Rockies against Zona?

I'd have to go with the Rockies, only because the NFL season is young. There is a lot of time to make up for a loss.
Plus, making the playoffs in baseball is a huge accomplishment. The fact that the Rockies are even in the hunt at this point almost seems to be divinely authored.

Rockies against Zona. The Broncos are still in the early learning stage of the developing D. So the game with the Dolts is a toss up affair. It will not be until the fifth or sixth game that the D shows up enough for the Broncos to get consistency in the D....
Under the scenario you describe, the Rockie would have a shot at wining the Division. That is the kicker. They have not done that before. The Snakes have had their problems with the Pirates. The Brewers are a hella lot better team than the midgets and the Pads will likely lose at least two of those games in Milwaukee. The scenario has a possibility, and I just might be flipping the channels a lot on Sunday......

In any other scenairo I would pick the Broncos since each NFL game is roughly 10 times more significant than a Baseball game and Denver lives and dies with the Broncos.
This isn't any other scenairo the Rockies are in a position to do something really special, not only by making the post-season for the first time in over 10 years. It can be special because the Rox now have a team capable of going far in the playoffs by way of their league leading offense, a pitching staff with the lowest ERA since the break and a Bull-pen that can close the door on opponets.
I can't believe I'm gonna say this but I'm gonna have to go with the Rockies.
I was at the wild-card clinching game against the Giants when I was kid. Since that game we've suffered through Hampton and Neagle, Todd and the Toddlers, and the kid Rox. It's been a long time since I cared about baseball in September and I forgot how much I like it.

I was at the wild card clinching game too. I believe the Rockies came back from 7 down to win that game, freakin awesome. I loved Curtis Leskanic too, that kid was crazy fun.
I'd go with the Rockies. I think they could realistically win a playoff series. Maybe they can be like the Angels or Marlins of recent years, with young guys that are relatively unknowns coming up huge.

i love them both ... but broncs are always 1st ...
it was fate for me to be a broncos fan even tho i live in Cincinnati ...
i knew young the bengals was bad voodoo ... and when i seen the drive live "on tv" i was a John fan .... then a Broncs fan next week lol ... years later the city gets a baseball team .... and when they preview the unis before the 1st season , theres my name on their hats... "iv went by C.R. my whole life" ..... Artist with #1 song week i was born ... John Denver .
so it was fate ... but Broncs win always comes first ..

Sorry I'm greedy but I want both to win.
If a fan of both, it borders on illogical to prefer a Bronco win. 162 games coming down to ONE game; they win they go to the playoffs, and are talented enough to put up a good fight once there.
If it comes down to the one game, I'm just not sure which I'll DVR???

Broncos. I find myself watching the Rockies more and more and becoming a fan but then I think about what the Monforts are going to do when it comes time to pay our young talent. This team will be back to 65 wins again. Makes it hard to become a solid fan when the owners have the track record they do.

Well considering the Broncos are struggling, going up against one of the best teams in the league, in their own house where we've struggled..... I'm going with the Rockies. At this point, a win for them is even more important than a Broncos win

Rockies...ownership needs a wake up call to sign the young guys long term and a show of fan support should they go post season hopefully will do that. I really see no way possible the Broncos can win in Indy after that uninspired performance last week. Our Bronco team is a borderline .500 team right now and expecting a win in Indy against that team is unrealistic IMO. As much as I hate to say it the Rockies are playing with a ton more passion right now and more exciting to watch. The Bronco game last week was the single worst game I have been to in the last 12 years and I still feel ill watching that crappy game.

What an awesome question. I've only really started watching the Rocks over the past 2 summers, and baseball as a whole is really growing on me.
For this particular weekend, I'd go Rockies, only because of the significance of the game, and more because the Broncos are walking into a game they are likely to lose anyways.
Now... If the Broncos weren't playing the Colts, and had a more legitimate shot of winning... It would be something I had to think about. Interesting question.

Yeah thats what I was thinking...I don't know, its tough because after the draft and the FAs we signed, I was looking forward to this game since the schedule came out...and nothing would make me happier than to see us go into their house and put one on em.
With the Rockies, I vowed not to watch another game on TV until they made the playoffs, and I vowed never to go to a Rockies game until I was convinced that ownership is serious about winning a championship. I had a hard boycott on this team that I was able to uphold for 8 years now, and all summer long I would be so friggin annoyed at anyone who even mentioned the Rockies. Look, I use to be the biggest Rockies fan, lived and died on every pitch, I went to the inaugural season home opener, all that, and I just felt that ownership didn't, and doesn't give a damn about me so I just said the hell with ya then.
But now, as hard as I tried to ignore em, I find myself sneaking a peek at em and checking the standings. I really hope they make the playoffs, and winning the division would be even better. It would put that much more pressure on the Monforts to keep this team together. Cuz if they don't, there is gonna be an out and out revolt against ownership.
But if I had to make a choice, I would choose the Broncos. With the Rockies, I'm not there yet. They have to show me in the offseason. But it really would be cool to see them get in there. This city is gonna pack the stadium for this weekend series...gonna be fun.

This is an intriguing question. There are so many factors in play.
For the Rockies anyone who is a fan wants to see them get to the playoffs. It makes it feel like they'd be turning that proverbial corner. Fans feeling great since they have a chance to watch baseball in October with their own team and the promise that brings for the coming years. Denver has always lacked the magic baseball brings at playoff time. We had a baby spoonful once but didn't get a good taste.
For the Broncos its a bit different. 3 lackluster performances, one ending in a loss at home, ultimately being dominated in the game. Playing the defending Super Bowl champions, a team they tend to have trouble with, in their yard. The only seemingly interesting storyline is whether or not this team will start to turn the corner into the team it could be given the young, exciting talent it has. Are they still too young? Will they show flashes of brilliance and what is to come in the future? Will the future start now?
Overall it seems like an easy decision to watch the Rockies. However, I'll throw in one last factor that deflates the Rockies completely in my mind.
Ownership.
I have no faith that after this season the Rockies will even attempt to retain any of their talent...or at least not any that asks for and deserves more money. Watching the game would only set Rockies fans up for future heartbreak in the form of new, sub-par talent being brought in. Face it folks, with this ownership group the Rockies are the real life Indians in the movie Major League. Until their owners prove otherwise I send my message to them loud and clear in the form of 0 TV ratings and $0 at the stadium.

Thats where i was but I broke that rule Tuesday and last night by watching em on TV...but I'm glad there are more out there withthat attitude...If they don't pony up to keep these guys here, anyone that goes to a Rockies game is doing the franchise a disservice, and is part of the problem IMO.

There is no measure that gives a loss to the Colts as not a big deal. It might not ruin our season from a straw that broke the camel's back perspective, but it's still a huge loss. Every loss in the NFL is huge whether it's in week 1 or week 16. It accounts for roughly 11 regular season baseball games. So really the question should account for 11 games on the baseball side, because that's what 1 NFL game is worth.

I assume you said this tongue in cheek, because it's pretty ridiculous.
I've been a Broncos fan longer than I've been a Rockies fan, simply because they've been around a lot longer. If I had to break up my "fandom" in percentages, I'd say it would be 50 to the Broncos, and the other 50 divided among the Rockies, Nuggets, and Avs.
But, the Rockies getting in the playoffs is simply a bigger accomplishment than the Broncos winning any regular season game (unless a playoff spot is on the line).
For one thing, baseball plays 162 games. The regular season is a much more accurate barometer of where your team stands, compared to football. Plus, less teams (both in number and proportionately) make the playoffs in baseball. Playing in baseball's October is huge! And lastly, this is the Rockies we're talking about. The Broncos have been competitive since I started watching them (1977). The Rockies made the playoffs once - which now looks like a fluke. They've been average to abysmal before and since. And I can honestly say I followed them, regardless. I watched countless games in August and September, just to see how young call-ups would perform - there certainly wasn't any other meaning to the games. In short, a stretch like this is what being a fan is all about - it's forcing down a lot of bad for the ecstasy of that fleeting moment of good. This stretch is certainly less intense, but the same concept applied to January 29, 1998 - one of the best days of my life.
As for the Rockies "not deserving it," I would beg to differ. I have been at least as critical as anyone regarding the Monforts. A winning streak hasn't changed that. But these Rockies players are the most likable team I've followed, in any sport, in a long, long time. They truly set a standard for team play - for 25 equal parts (more in September) making up the whole. You watch them play a few games, and you can't help but pull for them. And Todd Helton has the "likable, talented guy that's never played for a winner" thing going for him - always a plus in emotional investment in a team.
I do think this was an excellent idea for a thread. I thought about this very subject a bit the last week; and the more I think about it, the more I stand by my assessment. If I had to make a choice in this scenario, I'd choose the Rockies.

Garcia Bronco is a baseball hater. No need to argue with him.
Soft boycotts and hard boycotts are good for the long term success of the Rockies. Years ago, when the Rockies were still doing well with attendance, but sucked consistently, I was mad at the fans for their support. It sent the wrong message.
Fast forward to the humidor, and the Rockies' strict philosophy of building from within. Like the A's and other teams that don't want to spend like drunken sailors, it worked! Props to the organization! They apparently have some very talented scouts. Also, the Rockies have a unique impetus for building from within: most of their minor league teems play at altitude... They're obviously playing great, setting all kinds of team records... It's time for the owners to be rewarded with tons of fan support - even if the Rox don't make the playoffs.
It's the old carrot and stick, y'know?
Now if they are too miserly, unloading stars like Matt Holliday to save some money, they will again get the stick from me. But until then, the owners & management need our encouragement. With the fan support they've had in the past, as their young stars approach free-agency, there's no reason they can't spend substantially more on their home grown players. Just spend it wisely...
Go Rockies!

What? You mean the Rockies have a real team? They are more than "just another Denver attraction"? To me the Rockies have always been something to do when you are in Denver because its there, not because they are any good. They have always been an option, movies or rockies or dinner, hmmmm. Now that i see they have won 10 in a row that is interesting. Usually they are out of the running in june or july. Ah well, my pick will be Broncos because the Rockies lost me back in 98 or 99.

Are you kidding me? Come on....think of it this way: If the Rockies had won more games early on they wouldn't be in this position. Would they? Every game counts, and in this case 11MLB = 1NFL game. You are either a Bronco Fanatic or a Rockie Fan under the senario. That means I am not seriously questioning anyone's level of fan-dom.

Broncos>Rockies 6 days a week and (hopefully) every Sunday. It was TIC, but in the NFL every games counts as you pointed out. The Broncos need all they can get this season. We don't have any to spare. Even for the Rockies to get into the playoffs. :)

if the choice is Rockies win and in vs. Broncos over Colts then I'll take the Rockies. Broncos have time to make up this game and this is a game everyone pencil'd in as a loss (even if you think we could and might win it). The Rockies finish is amazing and in my book - they have already won. But win and in? I take that.

Yep. Congrats to the Rockies for a very good season. As long as they don't let their stars go (e.g. free agency) they should be good for many years to come. Thanks for an exciting September of baseball!
