Yes it was. I thught the same thing when i saw LSU do it on TV. The only difference was Elam did run for a TD he pulled his hamstring.

LSU may have a couple of kickers, and maybe their kicker has some decent speed and athletic ability other than kicking, which Elam doesn't. I'm not one to rag on every call Shanny makes but that was one of the most inexplicable, obtuse calls I've ever seen. He apparently expected Elam to have the speed to get out of bounds. And Elam was getting bad at kickoffs, but I think another reason why they took Elam out of kick off duty was because he was regularly getting hurt in coverage. It was lucky he didn't get hurt badly enough that he had to be taken out of the game.

I think the bears also tried the same play against the cowboys...those kind plays just don't seem towork in the NFL

Same exact play, yes...it helps when your kicker can outrun the offensive line though.

If our kicker wasn't closer to 40 than 20 that play might have ended differently.
