Great job gundy - 100% correct.
Same should be said for many here on the Mane who feel that because a guy has a bad game, he needs to be personally attacked like he was a serial killer.

More so for college players than pros. Those kids aren't getting paid millions to go out there. I saw the article in question on another site, and does have some pretty low blows in it.
When it comes down to it, its 20 year old kids playing a game, and there is no reason to tear them apart. I'm still embarrassed for the way some Nebraska fans ripped Jamal Lord a few years back. Yeah he wasn't the best QB, but he played hard, didn't get in trouble and certainly didn't deserve a lot of the crap he took.

He went right after that beat writer and his editor.
I wouldnt call it a meltdown as much as I would call it a verbal thrashing.

what she deserved. It was a she reporter.
He layed into her. Looked her straight in the eye the whole time and called her OUT. God that gave me a lot to smile about. I deal with worthless puke reporters at the airport who do and right dispicable stuff and he said everything I have wanted to say.
It really doesn't matter if it was a male or female writer except that everyone keeps referring to the reporter as him. Even on the local radio stations they were surprised to hear that the reporter was a female. I think it has to do with the persona that women are more sensitive, caring, and compassionate.
Here is what she wrote:

Oh man I was reading some of the comments left regarding the story. This comment is the best:
Jenni, your lack of integrity and common sense rise like the stench from a manure pile. You must have no feeling and no prospects for a husband with your lack of sensitivity. I hope you are proud of yourself, because noone else is!
Andrew, Flagstaff
There a few local writers here I would love to say that too.
I couldn't support Gundy more in this situation. I love the media is trying to blow this up as a bad thing.
Props to you Mike Gundy. Now go kick OU's ass later this year.

I tell you what, he just won the respect and commitment of his players.
Coach just used that opportunity perfectly to illustrate how he will put himself at risk of scorn for the defense of his players.
Well played, coach.

Big story, but didn't see it posted on the mane. Personally I think the reporters can go after the game plan and coaches, but making it personal on a college player is overstepping the line. The said article that Gundy is pissed about went a little over the line after reading it. Watched this on ATH (around the horn) and most of the columnists on there agreed it went over the line. What say you maners?

I think his point was right but got caught up in the moment. If you read the article the said Columnist had no business bringing the QB's mom into the story.

Your right they didn't, but don't go off in a press conference looking like a nut.

Yes, and this is why.
The whole purpose of his tirade was to focus the attention of the media on himself, rather than the kid.
He accomplished his goal brilliantly.

No big deal but there is a thread on the college forum.
He was 100% correct to back his players in public. The writer chose to denigrate them in public.

The lady who wrote that article should be outright fired. Using the paper to degrade and humiliate a kid? It's disgusting and the coach was absolutely justified in what he did. Now, he could have handled it a little better and with a cooler head but still there are some things that are just plain not right and that article is one of them.

My looking at this Clip makes me want to jump on the person who wrote it. with out the spectecle of the media. he'd probably do the same thing. Im glad the coach took up for his players. Sometimes the media needs to be told to stuff it

I think the coach is 100% justified in his actions, the reporter crossed the line and he defended his player.
While some might dis-agree with his methods this needed to be done.
The sports media today have absolutly no "journalistic integrity" and in my eyes zero crediblity. The majority of the time it's some douche like Mortensen on ESPN just pulling things out his nether region that are inconsequential and fill air time. Things like this are to be expected since the "reporters" know they can say a source leaked the information and not be held accountable. What pisses me off more than anything though is that normal journalistic ethics don't seem to apply in sports journalsm.
Case in point; when a tragic accident occurs the media for the most part will withhold the name of the victim until the family has been notified.
Sadly Cory Lidle's family was not afforded the decency to be told by someone who's job is to comfort those grieving. Not only was ESPN showing non-stop live footage of the crash site, they were reporting THAT HIS FAMILY DID NOT KNOW, it was repeated several times. They were breaking down his carrer stats before the flames were out, and had it on scrolling ticker. I understand he was a Yankee and atheltes are public figures but put yourself in that position. Someone you care for dies and before you can reached by family ESPN sends a live update to your phone.
I know thats an exterme example but it's one in a long line of unethical practices that compose sports "Journalism" today.
Bravo to the OSU Coach for making a stand against this type of b.s. Cause he's 40 and he's not gonna take it.

Stoops weighs in:
"Everybody has a remark on everything we do, and that's OK," Stoops told reporters Tuesday. "As soon as a coach has an opinion on what any of you do, then you can't do that. I don't know why that would be. We're entitled to our opinions as well. So that's it. I've got nothing else to say about it."

Stoops is a joke for saying that....you can't tell me that he wouldn't defend one of his players that was being called out in the local paper by some no-name beat writer. He may not have taken it to Gundy's extent, but whatever Poops....typical politician:peace: :spit:

On the right side listen to Mike Gundy book reviews. The Grapes one isn't very funny, but Harry Potter and Moby Dick are great.

The bit about him being fed chicken by his mother was waaay too personal.
Unfortunately, these people get to hide behind their paper without anyone holding their feet to the fire publicly (like they do to everyone that they can use to sell papers). Gundy just educated the sports world on how it is done.

I hadn't seen the video until now. If I were on his team, I would be praising him for his leadership qualities and would follow him to the ends of the earth for having my back or my teammates back. Good job by Mike Gundy...
