Before we all go and drown in our own river of tears, maybe we can try to cheer ourselves up a little in this thread. I´m disappointed and frustrated as hell myself, but you can learn from every loss. So post what you LIKED about today´s game here and try to keep the negativity out, please.

1) Brandon Marshall is a beast and will be a very nice WR for us for a long time to come. He had some excellent plays and can make a big play out of nothing.

2) Jason Elam didn't miss any FGs

But seriously, saw a lot of good stuff from Cutler. Brandon Marshall, man I can't wait for next year. I'm not saying that I think this year is over, but I think next year, 2 years from now, we're going to have an explosive offense with Cutler really improving with Marshall and Walker running routes.

Young has a chance to be very explosive as a 3rd back.....if he could only hold onto that pesky ball....

1. B-Marsh, obviously. He is the best wide receiver on our team. Yes, I know.

2. Doom. Another 2 sack/ff/fr momentum changing game for him. If only he was 4 inches taller.

Brandon Marshall.

Yep. I have been happy with our offense for the most part. I think our OL needs to be more physical to run on a team like Jax, but all in all our O could be scary good by season's end. Cutler, Walker and Marshall could be a great trio to build around. I hope we can hang on to Stokley as well as he seems to fit that slot/3rd down role as well as anyone we have had around here.

I also think Dumerville is countinuing to impress. I don't think he can be an every down player, but he's the lone playmaker on our DL.

Our O is going to be O.K. if our D doesn't stay on the field for 40 minutes a game.

Agree with the Cutler and Marshall nomination. They're going to be amazing together for a long time.

I can't believe how much confidence I have in Cutler. I really thought he would struggle more than he has. There have been moments, but overall, he seems to be in complete control.

Cutler has some growing pains and makes poor decisions sometimes, but he has no fundamental flaws that can´t be fixed with experience and/or coaching.

The Broncos didn't lose in their orange uniforms so those are officially off the hook. We didn't play in the hideous old school uniforms. That was appreciated.

We are definitely finding out what our weak spots are.

There will be zero press coverage about the big Manning versus Cutler game.

Bowlen has a reason to lower beer prices and parking.

Might be more tickets avaialble at the next game.

Don't have to worry about playoff talk all season long.

Any illusions of Super bowl should be gone.

We get to see what our fans are made of....in a hurry.

Where was my man Javon today?

Javon was victim of what I call the "LW20 Effect."

When a team has a great, great cornerback, the offense playing them usually has their #1 receiver shut down pretty hard. Like Marvin Harrison and Lee Evans when we play the Colts and Bills, like the #1 WR on teams that play the Cowboys (Terrence Newman), the Vikings (Antoine Winfield), and the Jaguars (Rashean Mathis). Just like opposing offense avoid Champ, we avoide Rashean today.

The moniker "LW20 Effect" comes of course from Louis Wright, when Carlos Carson, Lynn Swann and Steve Largent were corralled by the 70s-80s Broncos, and John Stallworth, Stephone Paige and Paul Skansi, Sam McCullum Daryl Turner or whomever the Seahawks trotted out for a day in the sun had career days against #2 CBs like Bernard Jackson, Steve Foley, Mark Haynes, Aaron Kyle, Mike Harden .............................

The "Positive" from today's game is that our #1 deficiency was brought into crystal clear focus .... as I've been whining since training camp, our DTs are scandalously underskilled. THINK ABOUT IT ... how does a journeyman player like Amon Gordon come in and start?? Because the other DTs just plain SUCK.

Amon Gordon would not make 25 of 32 rosters, and yet he's starting for us.

I PREDICT: Shanahan will make a move THIS WEEK at DT. He must ... it's the only glaring hole.

Cutler and Marshall, that is going to be a beastly combo one day.

Dumervil doesn't get my vote because he was on the field for more than the two plays that he got sacks on. The defense sucked today.

Too late chief, that day is already here. Too bad its not enough to overcome the suck that is our front 7. Really just the guys in the middle though, and the two LBs.

Agree, but...

Our LBs may be an even larger glaring hole?

The biggest positives?

Long term: JC and BM

Today: The Rockies. You know?... Our baseball team. They just won their 84th game with six left to play (breaking a franchise record). They won their 8th in a row today as they swept the most important team they could've swept, The Padres, whom they are now only 1 1/2 games behind in the wild card standings. The way they're playing, they might even win the devision???

Cutler and Marshall are the only reasons this game was as close as it was.
Hixon should not be the return man, the positive there is that Shanahan will
recognize it (I hope)

I was there in the dark days when Wade Phillips was sleepwalking on the Broncos sideline and people were calling to bench Elway. It's all good. The real fans will stick around. We're just watching other guys play football after all.

Positives:

Jay Cutler

Brandon Marshall

Elvis Dumervil

The realization that our utterly glaring weaknesses at linebacker are so obvious, Shanahan will have no choice but to upgrade that unit in the off season. We will see a minimum of two new starters there next season.

BroncoBuff
09-23-2007, 10:18 PM
I agree Slap, minimum 1, maybe 2 new starters at LB next year.

But even Terry Pierce or Jashon Sykes or Donnie Spragan would make a bunch of tackles in the Bates system if Bulding Block #1 is in place: The DTs must occupy 3 to 4 offensive linemen to permit the LBs room to roam. Ray freaking Lewis is going the HOF because his DTs almost always give him room. But even Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher can be throttled a bit if their DTs demand only single-teams on every down ... and neither Amon Gordon nor Marcus Thomas has drawn an intentional double team yet this season.

Drywall and Foundation first - THEN paint and furniture.

Yup, pretty much agree with everybody here. The sad part of Cutler's day is that their were about 3-4 footballs left out on the turf that should of been caught. Still, he looks amazing. He was on point today but when you are on the field for only about 8 or 9 minutes in the first half, its tough to get a rhythem going.

Marshall looked very good, has huge upside. He still should have caught that first 3rd and 5 so even he wasn't perfect.

The Jags just came in and executed perfectly to what our weaknesses are... and they said F' the finesse BS, we are going to punch you square in the nose and see what you are going to do about it. We gave up on the run, threw the ball a ton. Played right into Caveman Del Rio's hand.

Well, nothin to do but turn the page and move on.

We need another DT... or two and LB's to boot. I think we have DJ under contract for another year. Move Gold off the roster as I've FINALLY soured on him. Slide DJ over to the Will... leave Nate at Sam. Draft some sort of instinctive LB at Mike.

If our DTs play next week the way they played today ... Indy could beat us with Jim Sorgi at quarterback.

That was the exact plan many on the Mane had with Patrick Willis before draft day ... led by the monomaniacal man-crushing Slap, Patrick Willis was, by acclimation here, worth trading up for. In fact, I could've given up our entire draft for Patrick Willis and Kris Jenkins. Then trade Gold for a 2nd-day pick - that's what I wouldda done.

Cutler was great. BMarsh was a Monster. Dumervil was very good. Mistakes killed us. Dropped balls, fumbles, and a bad QB sneak call on 4th and goal cost us the game. Today is a bad day, we will all see things different tomorrow.

Buff, that's quite an effort of general management, but I think that it borders on insanity. :P

Willis has potential, sure. He wouldnt be the solution to any of our problems though.

We need an Al Wilson. A run game specialist.

In retrospect it pains me to know that Adalius Thomas was out there for the taking and to my knowledge, we did nothing to get him.

Experience and leadership is what we need...not more youth and inexperience.
