Davis to join Broncos' Ring of Fame

When Terrell Davis first came to Denver and stepped into to the old Mile High Stadium, he couldn't help but look up at the hallowed names that circled the stadium.

And Davis couldn't help but wonder what it would take to get his name on the Ring of Fame.

"I wanted to know what those people had to do to get up there," Davis said Friday by telephone. "Haven Moses, Tom Jackson, Randy Gradishar, those are accomplished people And now Terrell is going to be up there forever. If I live long enough I will bring my great-grandchildren and even their kids and show them my name.

"You could imagine the smile that is on my face."

Davis will be the 21st player inducted into the Broncos' Ring of Fame, team president Pat Bowlen said Friday. His name will be displayed at Invesco Field after a ceremoiny Sept. 23 during a game against Jacksonville. Davis was elected into the Ring of Fame on Friday after a committee meeting.

"Next to John Elway, Terrell is the closest thing to a slam dunk there was," Denver owner Pat Bowlen said. "This is a special day for me because Terrell was such a great person of character and such a talent for us."

Davis will long be remembered in Denver as the missing ingredient to Elway's teams that made Super Bowl runs. With the Elway-Davis one-two punch in the backfield, the Broncos won back-to-back Super Bowl championships in the 1997 and '98 seasons.

Drafted in the sixth round out of Georgia, Davis came out of nowhere to become an instant star. He holds 12 team records. He is one of the five NFL players to rush for more than 2,000 yards in one season, which he did in 1998. He was the NFL MVP that season and was the MVP of Super Bowl XXXII.

"I feel too young to have all these things happening to me," Davis said. "I feel like I should be just retiring now. But to get these honors, I really enjoy it."

Davis' career was cut short after he suffered a series of knee injuries beginning in 1999. Davis, 34, last played for the Broncos in 2001 and was on the team's injured reserve in 2002. He was one of 25 finalists for enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last year.

The Ring of Fame selection was determined by a committe that includes Bowlen, former general manager John Beake, former defensive coordinator Joe Collier and former radio voice Larry Zimmer.

I just got back from the HOF and suprisingly Denver is better represented than I thought:

Mike Anderson's Rookie Rushing Jersey

Jason Elam's lead toe from the 63 yarder

and of course Johns Bronze Bust

Next up..... TD!

TD...**** YEAH! ^5

c'mon guys, keep the hate out of this thread. the past is the past and lets just focus on the amazing career TD was able to put together in the time he was given.

I will always be proud of the fact that I made it out to Denver for the Seattle game in which TD popped 2,000....

I will say this, on that run that pushed him over the 2,000 mark, he (TD) took a shot, I believe from Chad Brown...

Anybody know how TD did on "Deal or No Deal"?

Anybody know how TD did on "Deal or No Deal"?

He didn't really do much.....sat around joking around with Jerry Rice mostly.

I found it humorous that they put the $1,000,000 in the #18 case knowing beforehand that the guy would pick that case but not have the intestinal fortitude to hold out till the end.

Anyone who previously believed that they randomly assign the cases pretty much had that door slammed on them.

Awesome. Except Elway was the Denver Bronco QB until 1999....technically. :)

I'd like to see Riley Odoms, Rick Upchurch and Simon Fletcher in the Ring of Fame. Odoms had better numbers than HOFer Charlie Sanders, Upchurch was the league's most dangerous player from 1975-80, and Fletcher remains the team's all-time sack leader . . .

how Fletcher never made a Pro Bowl is just mind boggling when you go back and look at the stats

16 sacks in one season and still didnt make the Pro Bowl...

a damn shame

Nice to see how much it means to TD to be in the ring.

In addition to TD's induction, is it also alumni weekend? If it is, it'll be even sweeter for TD to be surrounded by the guys who came before him. #7's never come down onto the field to be introduced as an alumn - wonder if he ever will.

Simon Fletcher should be definitely be up there. One of the most underrated Broncos ever.

Last November for the San Diego game John was on the field. I'm sure they introduced him, but you couldn't hear the public address announcer for the roar of the crowd when John's picture came up on the big screen. They had introduced allumni by decade, then the Ring of Fame members in attendence. John was last and your would have through he just threw the Superbowl winning Touchdown.

TD should be in the HOF but since they hate the Broncos we will be lucky if anyone other then Sharp and the Duke ever get in.
