For good or for ill, Dre' Bly showed he's in Denver to gamble.
The $33 million cornerback's aggressive play fueled two of Sunday's biggest plays during Denver's 23-20 win over the Oakland Raiders. The first play gave his opponents hope. The second saved his team and granted him redemption. The performance gave those at Invesco Field an idea of what they can expect from the big-ticket corner opposite Champ Bailey.
"Dre' is a guy who has shown an ability to make plays. At some point, he's going to make it," safety John Lynch said. "That's the great thing about the corners we have: You may get them once, but you're not going to get them over and over again."
Bly's first big play was a big mistake. With the Broncos leading by 14 points late in the third quarter, Raiders receiver Jerry Porter duped Bly on a slant-and-go route that led to a 46-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Josh McCown.
"The quarterback faked, and I broke on it," Bly said. "Being out there on that island, plays like that happen."
The cornerback's second big play was perhaps the game's most impressive.
With 27 seconds left and the score tied, McCown looked for Porter again deep along the sideline. This time, Bly remained step for step with the receiver. He turned his head at the last moment and plucked the ball from the air at inside the Denver 20-yard line to force overtime.
"You have to wipe things out after you make a mistake," Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said. "You have a full blitz on I just think a breakup is good. For him to come down with that ball is exceptional."

I've had the misfortune of watching a few Lions games over the past two years (buddy of mine a Lions fan) so I knew what we where getting with Bly.
He's going to give passes like he did on Sunday. He's not as steady has Champ. But he can make big plays (break ups and Int's) also.
It's a yin & yang type thing with Bly.

Bly will be beat probably more times than Bronco Nation likes on double moves and pump fakes.
He will make his share of plays though.

Honestly, Bly is the type of player I thought D-Will would be after about 5-6 years in the league. Small, scrappy, won't quit. But, eventually he takes some gambles and gets beat. I just hope he stick with Reggie Wayne in a couple weeks. If he can bat down a couple TD passes to Wayne, he will be worth every penny.

Bly will have big problem covering Wayne..
He gets easily fooled.
I bet Wayne will score atleast 2 TD's..
Hope i am wrong..

Bly is like T-Buck.
Bly did get beat a second time. On the final drive before OT, he was toast, but the ball was overthrown. The game would have been over if that pass was completed. Even on his pick, the WR had half a step on him. If the ball had led the WR more it would have been caught. The slight under throw allowed Bly to pick it off.

Not surprising he got caught (twice) looking in the backfield the way the run defense was getting shredded late in the game. Pretty much all of their passing yards came on one play. I'm not really sure where McCown was throwing to on that pass in OT because Porter was wide open again.

sad but everyone knows about blys name when it will come to the colts game. i have my doubts but i hope this year the broncos will double cover wayne and not let him burn us the way he did last year. i will take my chances with baily on harrison 1 on 1 everytime over wayne and bly. i personally are tired of seeing wayne beating us. its always him for some reason

Yep...DWill was a better and more agressive tackler though IMO

Foxy should be ready also for the Colts and hopefully both teams will be undefeated when they play. Should be a great game.

and Abdullha...it will be nice having him back in there on passing downs vice Lynch....perhaps with some coverage help Porter doesnt score that touch down (in no way discounting Lynch and his importance to the team)

Hopefully the front seven can get pressure on Peyton.
Or It's going to be the same old...

Pressure on peyton and a strong running game is what will beat the Colts. We can't double cover everybody which is what it'd take to keep their passing game down. I just hate being blown out by them, hoping we can at least take it down to the wire.

On that throw to Porter he was freaked out of his shoes
But he came back with a great play to save our ass

Yes. This is the key. Same for NE.
I like Bly and Bailey better on Wayne and Harrison then I do their corners on Walker, Marshall and Stokely.

I gotta agree there ... or maybe I have a watered down appreciation of Harrison's danger because Champ keeps him quiet when we play them...
I do have top say this ... McClown made an excellent pump-fake on the TD. I can definitely see how a CB could bite on it - especially one with a gambler's streak.

Yup. Marshall's raw talent is unlimited ... if he keeps progressing, by next season (or maybe even later this year), we might pass the Colts and even might close in on Arizona for the best pair of wideouts in the game.

Has Bailey ever covered Wayne? I don't ever recall this. He always covers Harrison. And then Wayne shreds us. Also we don't ever double cover those guys. Whats up with that? Remember when Roc Alexander got his arse tore up in the playoffs? We never doubled Stokes....
Harrison is Harrison. But the guy has slowed a bit. Should we take our chances with Bly covering him this time around? Either way both WR's are going to throw the double moves on Bly. Make no mistake of that. I just think that Wayne is more dangerous and in his prime and that Bailey should cover him. Then we can roll coverage to Bly's side.
I'll save the rest for next week. We got the Jagwads to worry about for now....

no bailey has never covered wayne. i know we dont ever double cover anyone. we should in this case. have another db cover the slot man IMHO. LB can handle clark. that is my opinion. remember every down is a passing down for peyton

Guess Dallas Clark doesn't exist? But that is beside the point. Last year we gave Wayne a 10 yard cushion on every passing down and as expected they just kept dinking and dunking their way to the endzone. I'm glad an agressive DB like Bly is now on the other side of Champ. This forces the O-line to hold their blocks longer and gives the D-line a better chance at getting pressure on Manning.

Boldin + Fitz > Wayne + Harrison.
Both duo's are fantastic, dont get me wrong, but Boldin and Fitz are just now getting into their prime. Wayne is at his peak but Harrison is on the decline.
Put Zona's duo with Manning and both of them are racking up 1500 yard seasons 15+ TDs, period.

Yea, Bly got burned, but he also made a pic. We all know that Bly is no Bailey. He better step his game up for the remainder of the season

Couldn't have said it better myself, sir ... maybe Leinart will come within shouting distance of Peyton in the next few years ... they have a promising young O-Line, and if Pope can keep the weight down, their passing attack will be awesome.
I probably over-:homer:-spoke about Javon + Brandon catching either duo in the near future, but that Brandon Marshall is an astonishing raw talent, watching him develop week by week is an amazing treat. Might be the most pure-talented Bronco other than Roland.
