This is a good defense to go with a high powered offense. If we can start scoring points right away and get up on people early, they will be forced to abandon the run, an area where we struggle, and try and force some throws. It's perfect for the way Shanahan wants to run this team.

Cutler's trying, isn't he?

I remember a lot of peeps here wringing their hands about the WR corps. I think the WRs for th eBroncos are among the best group in the league.....

I remember a lot of peeps here wringing their hands about the TEs. For blocking, excellent. Haven't used them much in the passing game yet, so the jury is still out. However, I think the group can be pretty good.

Need to get tds......

Same refrain from last year, but the Broncos are a better team than last year..........

Great point Kaylore. This was basically the recipe during the Super Bowl years (same for the Colts in recent years). From 1996 - 1998, The Broncos almost always had the lead after the halftime. It forced teams to throw the ball almost exclusively in second half. It helped to mask a pretty poor run defense and also boosted the pash rush because the d-line could just focus on getting after the QB.

If the Broncos start converting on some of these red zone opportunities, this team could be scary.

Well, in fairness, that'll happen when you play JP Losman and Josh McCown at QB.

Looking at the stats from two games, here are a few things that jump out at me:

Brandon Marshall is tied for 27th in catches with 10 (Leaders: Javon Walker, Randy Moss, and TJ Houshmanabdullahramonjimenez). But, he's tied for 6th in catches for 1st downs with 9 (leader is Chad Johnson).

(Comment: He is going to be huge on 3rd down throughout his career. With his size and good hands, he should be a staple for us when we need a big catch, a la Shannon Sharpe).

Dominik Hixon is 2nd in punt returns with 6. If you look at players with three or more returns, he's second to last in his average per return (3.0 yards per return).

(Comment: I'll admit I'm not a big Hixon fan. But come on! 3 yards per return? Six returns isn't much of a sample, but he's looked horrible on those six. And it's not just the coverage - although that's been some of it. He's got to get it together, or we need to find someone else to do it.)

exactly. i am encouraged by the defense, but would like to see what the numbers look like, and how the pass defense holds up against a more competent QB.

I have been completely underwhelmed by Hixon. Not counting any time he catches the ball in the end-zone, his "runs" are pathetic. He spends too much time cutting left and right rather than trying to make a bull run for as much yardage he can get. He acts like a deer in headlights.

My stepdad would throw baseballs at me to get me over tbe fear of being up to bat in little league. Perhaps Hixon needs to go back to training and perform some similar drills and have some hardcore D coming at him.

Just run already. Has he even crossed the 20?

It is time for O'Brien to try someone else back there on returns.

Yeah, something tells me Peyton is going to do a little better than 60 yards.
