View Full Version : Jags will have to avoid Bailey in Week 3

The Jaguars will head to the Rocky Mountains for their first road game of the season in week 3 against the Denver Broncos. Denver showed in week one that they should be considered one of the top teams in the AFC this season, by winning in Buffalo, 15-14 on a 42-yard field goal by Jason Elam as time expired.

While the score was close and the game in doubt until the end, the Broncos defense was very impressive. They held the Bills to184 total yards, including only 72 yards through the air. The key player on that defense, and easily the most feared cover cornerback in the league is Champ Bailey. He has 39 interceptions for his career, with18 of them coming over the last two seasons while essentially playing on an island every game.

The Broncos have the luxury of putting the All-Pro cornerback on any team's top wide receiver and having the utmost confidence he will shut him down. Such was the case in week one when Lee Evans, one of the best deep threats in the NFL, managed just two catches for five yards while being blanketed by Bailey all game.

With the ability of Bailey and new addition Dre Bly to play man coverage, it allows for the rest of the Broncos defense to aggressively attack the running game without fear of being beaten for a big play deep. It would appear that the Jaguars offensive approach plays right into the hands of this style of defense. Their execution on offense will need to be near perfect if they expect to have success in this game, and if quarterback David Garrard isn't careful, the ball could very well end up in Bailey's hands as well.

I loved how McCown threw 1 pass to Curry(Champ's man) and Champ picked it off on an incredible interception.

True Conk Bly was on evens most of the game. The story was true sort of cause we do have 2 all-pro cb's but this is going to be a repeat article every week.

Champ is great. Champ is gold coins among pennies. Champ is magnificent. Champ is a players' player. Champ is fabulous.

But Champ did not cover Reed.

Other teams need to avoid throwing the ball to Champ.

Long live Champ.

I pray Garrard and Del Rio are stupid enough to throw it to Champ's side. Please be that stupid like Leinart was.

Do you mean Evans?

I know the Jagwads have sucked running the ball so far, but if the Broncos don't improve their run D, Garrard might not even have to throw it.

A Wide Receivers worst nightmare isn't when he finds out Santa Claus isn't real, its when he finds out Champ Bailey is.

Has there ever been or will there ever be a more moronic title for a thread than this one?

This team is built to stop The Colts and Patriots. Stop their passing games.

Broncos123: I agree we are good at stopping the pass, but if you notice the Colts and Patriots, specially Colts are much more balanced nowadays, and Addai will have a career day against us if we don't fix the run D fast, hopefully this week.

Also we play against Colts next week, and I feel Addai and Gonzalez along with Clark can have a big day against us. Lets hope we fix the Run D this week though, and fix our scoring issues to have any success in beating the Colts.

I don't know. Champ continues to play at a high level and yet every game we see some idiot try and throw at him as Champ picks the ball. So maybe the Jags will be smart like Manning and Brady and just ignore that side of the field entirely.

I think Marcia learned this the hard way when we kicked them out of the playoffs in 2005. I only wish Manrio would test Champ we could use a couple of picks next week.

Jags will have to avoid Bailey?

How about “Jags will have to avoid sucking so badly they can hardly score 10 points at home”?

With the WRs the Jaguars have Bailey and Bly should get an off-day. Just make sure we stop the run.

We should be able to run all over them, as the Titans did, and with better play calling score enough points in the first half to secure a win.

Few harmless cut-block are also in order if only to hear Fake Del-Trio whines once again.

Manning wont avoid Champ. He'll challenge him, and he'll win some.

Champ will win some too.

I would have to say that Champ v. Manning is the classic matchup of this generation. If only Champ's supporting cast could manage to contribute against the Colts, this would be one of the NFL's premier matchups. It could be that way this season.

The run D looks like **** if we are we really using 9 guys to run it. Thankfully we are not.

It doesn't happen often, but I actually laughed out loud on this one. Well done.

Didn't happen really the past couple of meetings. Reggie Wayne's had a field day against us because of that.

Yeah. We'll see if Bly can stay disciplined on him enough to keep him somewhat contained.

I believe that Wayne is the reason that Bly is here

bailey will be on wayne...we'll do what we've done all season and put bly on the #1 and give him safety help

I hope so. Physically, that matchup is better.

Yeah, maybe that will confuse Manning and he'll throw a lot at Champ early and Champ will make him pay!

Personally I think Garrad and Del Rio should go right after Champ all game long. Champ is so overrated.
