First - it's freakin' exciting to be a Broncos fan.. Last second wins or not, our team is fun to watch and looking like they could be special.
So, I looked at the stats this morning, and this is what I saw:
The number one offense in the league (total ypg).... Broncos - 455.5 ypg
(second place is the Patriots at 419, Indy is 416.5)
The NFL rushing leader is..... Travis Henry 267 yards
The number one passing D.... Broncos
Total Defensive yards.... Broncos are sitting at 3rd place
Elvis now has 2 sacks and 1 INT
Jay Cutler is 4th behind Manning, Palmer, and Brady
Javon is 6th, and averaging 110 yards per game.
Brandon Marshall is now hitting about 67 yards per game (27th place)
Offensively, we are fifth in passing / fourth in rushing.
Now, the INT contest has started with Bailey and Bly both getting in the mix. How about Marcus Thomas? He might be better than we originally thought.
It seems we are just going to be a heart attack team all year, but this is going to be a really fun season as a fan.
Good post. As exciting as the stats are, they are equally disturbing to me.
With those numbers we should be flat out dominating people, especially teams like Buffalo and Oakland and we are squeaking them out. We could easily be 0-2 right now.
I think the future looks bright, but there are some major holes that need to be addressed.

I agree, but I would also rather be a little lucky - which it seems like we are. Our team has really dealt with a lot of crap in the offseason, so it's hard to say we don't deserve it.
And, with statistics like these, the arrows are pointing upwards, rather than down. We should be a good team this year. The next few weeks should let us know if we will be a great team when it counts.
agreed man, it definitely adds glimmers of hope
one thing is for sure, despite some mistakes here and there Cutler is the real deal

It is too early to get all excited about the numbers. The only thing one can say is that it is better to be well thought of than otherwise. The point is, the numbers are just numbers at this point.
I share the idea that this will be a very uneven season. There will be more close wins, maybe some not so close losses, but a lot of excitement and lots of pathos, maybe even a bit of comedy - as when they play the mullets. All those elements of good entertainment times are there this year....
To say that this is a championship team is to be a bit premature, but it is not impossible for them to squeak into the playoffs. If they do, great. If not, at least they will have been great entertainment along the way, and really should show good promise for seasons to come.
I certainly intend to keep my electric bill paid so I can see them play each week.....

Sorry, this is not the #1 offense in the league. #1 offenses score TD's, not FG's. Hell, even Jake used to move the ball between the 20's. This team has beaten two doormats by a combined 4 points--kudos for the wins and they will only get better, IMO. But this team can't be considered elite at this point. SD would still batter us. If Jordan ran for 150, LT would run for 200. Special teams left 3 more points on the field yesterday and that onside kick should've never been executed if everyone does their job.

Statistically we are dominating people. Second, W's are what they are. However, talent wise, it's all there. Two factors support the statistical vs. final score observation. A virtual "rookie" at starting qb, and a brand new defensive coordinator and his new system that goes along with it. I'm satisfied the talent is on the field. It's getting the talent to play up to their potential, play within the system, and work together better as a group. I'm confident both will come to pass sooner than later...dman

Give the rookie some time, I'm thinking he'll get around to leading the O to a few more td's and a few more lopsided victories....dman

Agree, this is a young team with many new faces added this past off season during FA and the draft in all areas including the coaches. The divisional games are always full of surprises and drama particularly vs the hated raiders. We all would have liked to see a blow out. But the way it ended with the trade mark Shankitnowski dinger... it is especially satisfying.

Isn't that part of the point.
The Broncos winning a championship really doesn't make me more or less of a person. All my friends know me as a hardcore Broncos fan, and it is part of who I am, but in the end it is just entertainment. And guess what, our team is very entertaining. I love that. I will take a season full of exciting games over boring ones anyday.
But, I still think we could be the major "wildcard" in the league this year. We'll see in the next couple of weeks whether we can beats the likes of Indy and SD. I'll have my seatbelt on...
BTW, it's too much to expect Travis to stay healthy all year and have success against the better teams, but he is on a 2,000 yard pace so far. I know, I know, Reuben looked great his first couple games as a starter also. But, Travis should finish with some great numbers. Hopefully, he will start to add some more TD's.

The downside is the special teams do such a lousy job on returns
and covering returns that the team has a long field to work with.
Thus they have to go a long way on each drive, which tends to
account for the high rushing and passing numbers, and the failure
to get touchdowns. Only a certain percentage of third down
conversions are successful, and the farther you have to go,
the greater the odds are that you aren't going to convert.
I'd much rather see the team starting drives on the 50 yard
line or closer than on their own 5, 10, 20 yard line.

If we can win the "hard way," it should get better later in the season if we get ST help. I'm pretty stoked about the performance of the Offense and Defense so far under less than optimal situations. ST improvement should be the "bonus" that helps us over the hump later in the season - especially with all the away games at the end of the schedule.

Go away.
I think we are very close to being a very good team. We are in the mix of playoff from the AFC. That is all we can ask for.
We'll be fine. This is a young group of players that are going to be together for awhile. Cutler, Henry, Javon, Marsh, Scheff(we haven't even used him yet), Graham, Lepsis, Nalen, are all going to be playing together for at least the next three years according to contract.
We have a great group of core guys on defense too.
Sure, we have holes but so does everybody else. I feel much better about where we stand after seeing the first two games. We have the ability to dominate games and we've only scratched the surface of what we will eventually do.

Good things happen when you have a franchise quarterback. People need to understand that it's going to get better, not worse. The Raiders D is a very good one.

The stat that count the most, points per game. Broncos are 1st in yards, but 19th in points per game. Defensively they are 3rd in yards, but 14th in points given up.
The great stats aren't translating to the scoreboard. They are showing that they are capible of doing a lot of great things. But they aren't bennifitting from those great things like they should be.
