How they let that guy work Raider games is absolutely beyond me. Shouldn´t the guy in the booth at least try to be a little objective? He hid his true allegiances pretty well until the Fade made their comeback, but then totally lost it for McClown´s TD to Porter where he shouted "we got ´em here!".

Being a QB in the NFL qualifies you to call games i guess but just like old times he and his team took it in the pooper after the dust settled.

I'm not sure I agree with Gannon on his criticism of Lepsis. Was Lepsis being pushed back? Yes. Did the kid get a mitt on the pass - causing the pick six to make the game close? Yes.
But he also kept himself between the DE and the pocket, and that's about all you can ask. If the DE had shoved Matt 6 or 8 feet backward INTO the pocket, then yes ... problem. But Matt held his ground enough to keep the pocket perimeter largely in place.

So it is true, Phil Simms and Rich Gannon sleep together...

Phil Simms is a good analyst and people that say he's negative on the Broncos are just pissed he beat us in the Super Bowl.
Gannon homered for the Fade a bit but his analysis on quarterbacking was pretty right. I don't know what you guys expected, I mean it was Broncos Vs. Raiders.

He called a bad game. He was a major homer, it makes that much sweeter when we won!!

Gannon did rave about Cutler though. It was just lost in his love for the Raiders. But he said a lot of great things about Cutler. And Lepsis got abused a few times today, I doubt that happens again.

No, you just came from one overly negative thread and are trying to be upbeat in this one - I don't buy it, nor does anyone who actually listened to the game. Gannon was the biggest homer ever - he showed more emotion that a coach on the sidelines. But, he did give the Broncos '8 in a box' credit and gave the linebackers some excellent compliments. Other than that, it was pure manlove for the Raiders.

True but his endless raider love babbling was getting a little old about the 3rd quarter.

I agree it was pathetic at times. He loves McNown but all that guy did was try to lose the game for the Raiders and make one throw that was all Porter and his double move. I am just saying that he did throw out some compliments to the Broncos.

I hate the C team announcers, but even they would have been better then Gannon today...

I haven't heard cheerleading in the booth like that since Bob Griese's baby boy was in the Rose Bowl.

I agree with Khan ... Gannon was pretty good. In fact, Kevin Harlan kept prodding him, "you played with Barry Sims, right?" When the PBP guy is repeatedly prompting you to discuss your time playing with the team, whadd'ya do?
BTW - the "Raider" side of their O-Line - Sims and Gallery - caused them all the heartache. Several penalties - late in the game - and Sims gave up Dumervil's second sack. The "Bronco" side of their line, Carlisle and Green, made no glaringly huge mistakes like that.

Sims always gets called for false start in Denver. Its guranteed just as the sun will rise every morning.
Seems like every announcer has some kind of weakness. Listen to Aikman and about 20 times a game he will say "I don't know that..........(insert rest of comment here)".
But Gannon was pretty obvious today. He would say everything the Raiders needed to do to win and what not, then he would quickly throw a bone out there and make a short comment on Denver. Guess he at least would catch himself after a few minutes of talking about what the Raiders needed to do before he would make that lone comment about a Bronco or something. I like Gannon, but he probably should not do Raider games anymore.

That was unbelievable. At the moment I seriously thought they accidently opened a field mic.

That is the truth here. There isn't an announcer that someone here doesn't like because he has said a negative thing about Denver at some point or another.

Gannon actually was very complimentary of the Broncos on several occasions, he went out of his way to praise Shanny a few times and sucked Cutler off a few times too. Sure, he's a homer for his team, but he isn't taking potshots at us or anything.

Yeah, that was pretty hard to take.
It was like listening to a Broncos/Faiders game with Eye Patch doing the analysis/commentary.

If anything he was taking potshots at the Raiders. He had total faith that the Broncos were going to win that game. He was saying over and over "I know the Broncos and when the game is on the line they find a way to make a play in these situations."

Gannon went on and on about the Raiders all game. He addressed McNown's moxie, the "vast" improvements on the o-line, the defensive backfield, the LB whose dad played for the Chiefs, so on and so on. It was sickening.
It appeared that after a "Raider Rant", Gannon would come back and say something complimentary about Denver, as if someone in the booth ran up to Gannon and said, "Dude, quit sweating your old team so much...it's too fricken obvious".
Bottom line is that he should not be calling Raider games.
I love the fact we won, though!
Go Broncos!!

Gannon wasn't taking cheap shots at Denver, but he was a huge homer for oakland as the game wore on. Huge. Usually, I think Gannon does a good job, but yesterday was almost unwatchable with him jerking of the raiders all day.
Simms is a terrific announcer and calls it fair. I think he's one of the best today.

I liked the fact that Gannon actually made some good points and shared a smart QB's perspective on some of the game situations. However, he is as big a Bronco Hater as Madden. After listening to him cheer on the fade in the 2nd half I was wanting to call Tony Siragusa (sp?) to give him another flop on the shoulder.

its pretty cut and dry - rich gannon shouldnt be assigned to do raiders vs. broncos games.

Anybody who remembers listening to Todd Christensen do Bronco games, has to agree. As bad as Gannon was yesterday, TC was like nails on a chalkboard. Worst ever............
Phil Simms is alright in my opinion. Sometimes we need to hear the truth, good and bad. To me, he usually provided honest insight. It is annoying though when a guy a blatantly cheering for the other team.

Im with ya Kaylore. I didnt notice too much homerism with Gannon and indeed thought he called a pretty balanced game. Of course there was going to be som efavoritism towards teh Raiders, or at least against the Broncos (since he was also a Chef), but he wasnt derogatory and even praised Cutler several times.

I hated the fact that he would make a comment about the broncos but say the raiders. Happens once no big deal but I swear it happened like 5 times.

If I had a dollar for every "we" reference Gannon made when The Raiders were on offence, I'd have enough for another case of beer. It was like the guy never left the team.
Hopefully CBS will send him a memo to remind him that he now works for them and not for the Raiders.

Agreed. Cris Collinsworth is still the champ, but Simms and Aikman are right up there.
Gus Johnson - who did PBP on the Bills game, is and underrated and I think skilled PBP man.
Bill Maas is the worst color analyst - a total moron. Get this: Two years when the Redskins played at Invesco in the rain, Maas said - no joke - "strange things happen here - this is the field where John Elway led his famous Drive against Cleveland." Worng on so many levels it's hard to count them. And yes, he really said it.
If Randy Cross wasn't such a likeable personality, I'd put him down with Maas.
John Madden is grossly overrated.
Is it just me, or does Kevin Harlan's big-shirt blustery-voice grate on you like a chalkboard too? He sounds like a bad Marv Albert impersonation.

Actually, I think he shows more bias toward the Bengals. He and Berman make it very clear TJ lives in Cincy and loves him some Ben-gals. When I watch him, TJ soft-pedals the Broncos.

Tom Jackson was hired as an analyst and to give his opinions. Gannon was there to call the game objectively and not reference the Raiders as "we".
