View Full Version : Thoughts on Cutler

The Good:

* Improvement on efficiency (trys/attempts)

* Apparently has some ice in his veins. Someone else said they think he's trying to beat Elway's comeback record in just a couple of seasons. I think there might be something to that. To games both with two comeback drives each. !Booya!

* Didn't make most of the same mistakes we've seen in the past (i.e. terrible throws to Young, heh). Has figured out to take the sack.

The Bad:

* Took "taking the sack" to seriously. It doesn't apply in the endzone!

* Needs to learn to get some elevation on short passes to avoid tips. The gun is great, but sometimes ya gotta float it a little.

* Needs to settle down still.

Now, I'm not particularly adept at this sort of thing (though I hope to improve), so do correct or add!

His problems are all technical and can be corrected. The ONLY thing I worry about with him is how well he senses the pass rush. Sometimes it's not clear what kind of instincts he has. But, other times.. he looks very aware. We'll learn that in time.

He's going to be fine. He needs coaching and time. Bottom line, he's making the throws he needs to make.

And there is the key to the whole thing. the rest as they say will come...hopefully sooner than later..dman

I have no problem with Cutler. I know that when we need it, game on the line, and a mistake losses the game, that Cutler will get it done. Needs to clean some things up, but not bad. I have more confidence in him than I ever had in Plummer.

Word. Some of those darts look like throws Elway might've had truoble making ... he threads those tiny little windows.

Here's what I saw and heard today. That first pass he hit Stokley with It almost looked like the ball caught Stokley. I heard that pass from 5 sections up when it hit stokley's hands. WOW

Steady progress IMO he just needs to get rid of those stupid rookie mistakes which will only come with time.

He was clutch at the end of games last year, too. It's just that our defense wasn't.

He threads the ball alright. I have confidence in Cutler but he is young... He is smart and seems to forget his mistakes (learns from his mistakes) He will be fine as he only has 7 starts under the cente. He does have a rocket for an arm. Look at the tape of the first have and he was throwing alot off of his back foot, bad mechanics but he still made the play. Hopefully it does cause prolbems latter on with mechanic.

I think Jay's problem is just youth. He will find a rhythem, start spreading the ball all around and then lose it.

I'm more concerned about him sometimes being high and behind. I think he is just basically still a rookie in terms of playing time and sometimes he is a second behind his reads. In this league, that will net you a INT. Case in point his INT in the 1st half today. He just threw that ball on a post about a second too late and the safety made a play on it. The reason he did it is because he has probably make that throw 12 times over the past two weeks successfully splitting the CB/S.

He'll learn from it. The best thing we have coming out of these games besides a W is the film that Shanahan needs to use to help Jay continue to grow.

Needs to look-off the defenders before keying in on Walker, Walker, Walker, Walker, and did I say Walker. I liked what I saw today versus last week when he could have easily had 3 picks. I only saw a few throws off his back foot or fade-away throw today which was great. The thing HE MUST DO IS DISGUISE HIS READS if we are going to get anywhere in the next 3 weeks.

Also, Shanny needs to step up the play calling. HOw many times did we go with the single back set with the TE/WR Graham in motion? Give it a rest already, sometimes you are just fooling yourself. Lined up man to man today we could have called anything and it would have worked. We are dominating teams in yards per play but having a tough time getting points on the board - kind of reminds me of the St. Louis Rams - an 8-8 team at best.

People are saying he stared down Walker but he didn't. Rich Gannon pointed out how well Jay Spreads the ball around. Compare that to Plummer who really did just stare down Rod Smith. I mean look at the stats!

Stokely had 48 yards and a TD.

Marshall had 5 catches for 82 yards, so this idea that he only looks to walker is bogus.

His problems are not seeing defenders put their hands up at the line and tacking sacks. Other than that his reads and throws are excellent.

He completed 70% of his passes, people and it was only his seventh game! Get a clue!

Yeah, he definitely is still throwing several passes behind the receivers. Hopefully, time will correct that.

Yeah, I was watching that, but on a couple of them, if he had led the receiver, it would have been incomplete, picked, or led the receiver straight into a major hit. He was hitting the open spot for the most part.

Get a clue!Yeah i dont understand the people saying he is staring down the reciever. i wonder if its because he has cought 17 balls the last two weeks. i have to say that he is thrwoing alot more then we are used to so alot more people are getting in on the catches. he uses walker alot but he is the number one. so why shouldnt he

Agreed....I pointed that out last week too.....that sometimes it is NECESSARY for the QB to throw a little behind in order to not kill his receiver.

But today I definitely saw a couple thrown behind, but the WR had a lot of open space in front of him.

Hey, every pass can't be perfect.....we've known that for the past 4 years. Ha!

watch the 2nd half again boys - he rarely looks off before throwing to Javon. When the game is on the line he stared down the target, that said, he has a cannon that can deliver in between defenders so it doesn't matter in most instances until he faces a better secondary and/or defensive coaches tell their safeties to watch his eyes late in the game. Jay is an awesome qb and will be huge but he is young as stated and this thread is 'thoughts on cutler' not 'whos right about our qb'.
